I have a friend staying. We had wine last night and there was about a glass left in the bottle. MY FRIEND HAS JUST DRUNK IT FOR BREAKFAST!

This isn’t normal is it?!

Nope 🙈 Christmas Day and an airport loungr are the only times morning boozing is OK imo

muffyduffster · 06/05/2018 10:02

Only at the cricket... champagne at 11!

IHeartMaryLennox · 06/05/2018 10:02

Hair of the dog?

I wouldn't be able to face it immediately after a session though. I'd be sick. She has a strong stomach.

Elementtree · 06/05/2018 10:03

Other than a bucks fizz neutralised by a bacon sandwich at Christmas, no I've never drank alcohol on a morning.

ManifestingPowerhouse · 06/05/2018 10:04

Airport. Christmas day. Few years ago when the world cup was in Japan so we'd be in the pub to watch a match at 6am.

Years ago a friend and I would have a drink after our last nightshift in a row. But the morning was our night iyswim.

TheStoic · 06/05/2018 10:05

I am drinking wine in the bath as we speak.

Littlebelina · 06/05/2018 10:05

Only when I've not been to bed or Xmas!

anyoldname76 · 06/05/2018 10:05

no i would think they have an problem with alcohol if someone i knew did that. a friend of mine was an alcoholic and when she started down that path she would post on fb saying she was having a hair of the dog to help her hangover , it was really just an excuse to have a drink and not feel guilty

NormskiNamechange · 06/05/2018 10:05

Erm do you mean first thing in the morning - like straight out of bed? That would be a no! However, I have on holiday, been known to order a G&T at around 11am.

I’m not sure how bad that is..... Blush

C0untDucku1a · 06/05/2018 10:05

Airport.
11am on sundays back in the day.

Jimwenttothedarklands · 06/05/2018 10:05

As a student it was fairly normal! Haha! A housemate got a bottle of Baileys once as a birthday present. We'd drunk it by 10am!

I barely drink these days but if your friend was a one off, I'd probably purse my lips but let it go. If it was a very regular occurance I'd have concerns.

JenBarber · 06/05/2018 10:05

Yes.

Work night shifts and have been to the pub afterwards for breakfast and a drink (usually hot chocolate with a Baileys) many a time.

The only two people I knew with alcohol 'problems' were the ones who had 'rules' about when you could drink. Had to be after 5/6pm then they drank shit loads.

But they thought I was odd if I had one drink but during the day.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/05/2018 10:06

Only at Christmas, England cricket matches. Used to have champagne brunches sometimes but don’t really do that anymore.

C0untDucku1a · 06/05/2018 10:06

Wedding day.
Christmas day.

gamerwidow · 06/05/2018 10:06

Only in my 20s when it wasn't uncommon for the party to just keep going from Friday night into Saturday day (and sometimes into Sunday). Even then once I went to bed he party was over I wouldn't have got up and drunk more Envy.

Fatted · 06/05/2018 10:07

Technically I have drunk in the morning - 3am in the morning when I was still out!

But nope, not for breakfast. Not even on holidays or Christmas. Is she still drunk after last night?! 🤔

StickThatInYourPipe · 06/05/2018 10:07

Hair of the dog? I can't face it personally but dp swears by it. Not that we drink very often and when we do we make sure the next day is just about lounging around so its not like he has to drive anywhere

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 06/05/2018 10:08

harriethoyle I see your Christmas day and airport lounge and raise you pagan rituals. We always have a goblet/bottle/paper cup of something before we start.

PetulantPolecat · 06/05/2018 10:08

Ever been at Luton Airport at 6am? So many people drinking pints, you start to doubt your own watch!

longhairdocare · 06/05/2018 10:08

I don’t think I could function in the day if I did that. I’d be back to bed with a headache!

We werent drunk last night. Had most of a bottle of wine between us and there was a large glass left in the bottle that friend just had when we were clearing up.

🤮

Christmas Day and at the airport. Other than that I try to wait until gone 3pm!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 06/05/2018 10:09

I’ve once cleaned my teeth with wine instead of water in a very dodgy b&b many years ago. I’ve drunk at this time like others have said in airport lounges, on Christmas Day and probably from about 11am on Bank Holidays in my single days.

Finishing off the wine prebreakfast sounds a bit extreme though, even to me.

DereksGotATail · 06/05/2018 10:09

Yes. At Christmas and at an airport.
I was away last week and we started drinking around the pool at 10.30 (not a family holiday).

SecretIsland · 06/05/2018 10:10

Buck's Fizz on Christmas Day and probably an arrival glass of fizz at earlier weddings we've been to.

resetEntries · 06/05/2018 10:11

Yes.

Christmas morning usually have a hot whisky before the swim.

The odd sporting event, especially when it's in a different time zone.

Technically the morning as I'll sometimes have a drink with lunch / brunch before 12.

I haven't drunk in the situation you described since uni several decades ago.
