Have you ever drunk alcohol in the morning?

I have a friend staying. We had wine last night and there was about a glass left in the bottle. MY FRIEND HAS JUST DRUNK IT FOR BREAKFAST!

This isn’t normal is it?!

yep but when I worked nights I would sometimes have a couple after a night shift before going to bed as it was my evening , ordinarily though I wouldn't.

longhairdocare · 06/05/2018 10:42

OuchLegoHurts Yes I think that also.

Oh well, it’s all part of life’s rich tapestry I suppose!

Christmas. Any hotel which offers Bucks Fizz at breakfast. Lazy Sunday mornings in the pub in my 20s.
Drinking a leftover glass not to waste it seems odd, but not necessarily worrying.

Topseyt · 06/05/2018 10:44

Bucks Fizz breakfast on Christmas morning. Also on my Wedding Day 25 years ago.

Other than that only if I have to fly, when a nice G & T at the airport (or on the plane) just steadies my nerves.

That's it.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 06/05/2018 10:44

My ds works nights and often comes in with a "breakfast beer" if he's off the next night.
We had some mates long time ago who drank very heavily, we were going on a lunchtime session with them (I know, just the idea makes me feel queasy now) and went into a pub in our town (pre relaxed drinking hours) at about 11. There was the landlord and his mates in the corner. About half an hour later the landlord got up and said, well that's me, goodnight to you all!

TakeThatFuckingDressOffNow · 06/05/2018 10:45

Yes!!! Breakfast beer as a hangover cure after a massive night.

Or anytime during carnival / festivals.

Turnocks34 · 06/05/2018 10:46

When I was younger and I worked in a bar, we’d finish at 5am and I’d have a drink of beer.

Airport - 8am flight, as a teenager off to Ibiza.

Christmas morning - Buck’s Fizz

FASH84 · 06/05/2018 10:46

Festivals, Christmas, occasionally a mimosa with breakfast on holiday, but not in the context you've described, and red wine in the morning 🤮

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 06/05/2018 10:48

Ah, but was it posh wine, or was it ordinary breakfast wine? Grin
But to answer the question no, in fact just the thought has made me feel a bit ill tbh.

longhairdocare · 06/05/2018 10:50

“Breakfast wine” sounds like a thing! Is it a thing?!

I once made myself a coffee first thing only to discover my milk was off, so I added baileys instead. This was when I was doing my teacher training though, they were dark times...(and I wasn't in school that day!).

To be fair, if your friend is staying with you then technically she's on holiday and we all know drinking rules don't apply on holiday. Don't think I could stomach wine in the morning though...

Foodylicious · 06/05/2018 11:01

Hmm.
Aside from it being a bit unusual, though she may think of herself as on holiday...
I would think it a bit odd that waste was her first assumption. IF there is ever left over red I use it in cooking in the next couple days. Gravy or Bolognese etc. I but rude at your house that she just drank the large glass, without checking you didn't want to keep or, or offer to share it with you.

ProzacAndWine · 06/05/2018 11:01

Only on Christmas Day. I seem to have internalised one of DM's random life rules. She's always said that to have alcohol before noon is "common". I don't worry about being common, but even on the rare days I'm opening wine during the day I find mysel checking that it's past noon before I do...

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 06/05/2018 11:01

I like an occasional prosecco or bucks fizz with a special breakfast (usually out). But wine in the morning, no Hmm

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 06/05/2018 11:02

I missed that it was red! Even worse Shock In fact I can barely drink red at all these days.

Oysterbabe · 06/05/2018 11:04

Christmas, festivals, airports are all acceptable. On honeymoon they served us with really strong bloody marys on Saturday morning apparently to help with the head as most of the island have a bit of a session on Friday nights.

Godowneasy · 06/05/2018 11:06

One bottle of wine between three of you and there was still a large glass full left over this morning???

longhairdocare · 06/05/2018 11:07

Godowneasy There was no third person 🤔

Yes, Bailey’s in coffee, prosecco/cava/champagne with breakfast, Sangria in Spain...

...but not a glass of red wine from the night before...doesn’t appeal At All.

I don’t understand ‘not wanting to waste it’. It could have been kept until this evening easily & even if it couldn’t, why put something into your body to ‘not waste it’ It’s ‘wasted’ whether you drink it or throw it out because it doesn’t add anything to your nutrition

SaucyJack · 06/05/2018 11:17

I should imagine she's just in bank holiday mode for the weekend.

Nothing about your post suggests she has a genuine problem with knowing when to stop.

LBOCS2 · 06/05/2018 11:18

Pretty much word for word what @rosamore said.

WiltedDaffs · 06/05/2018 11:18

Only about three times in my life...Bucks Fizz on the morning of my wedding and a couple of Christmas days.

padfootprongs · 06/05/2018 11:19

Yes! Festivals, on holiday, Christmas, when I get over excited on the weekend..

But that was pre babies of course!

MummyMuppet2x2 · 06/05/2018 11:19

Only on Christmas Day.
It looks like your friend has a problem...

GreyGardens88 · 06/05/2018 11:19

Occasionally on saturdays, never first thing though, maybe a drink at 11am and nothing then util late afternoon. On holiday too
