Have you ever drunk alcohol in the morning?

I have a friend staying. We had wine last night and there was about a glass left in the bottle. MY FRIEND HAS JUST DRUNK IT FOR BREAKFAST!

This isn’t normal is it?!

Christmas Day
Years ago, airport lounge

But other than that no, midday is earliest for me.

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/05/2018 10:22

Dh and I used to have epic house parties. I am an early riser. I used to go to bed about 1am, get up again say 7.30 and dh and a few others would still be awake. I’d get myself a drink and go and join them. Only happened once or twice a year. Apart from that, no. Hardly ever drink these days but this thread has got me wanting a Desperados.

LartenCrepsley · 06/05/2018 10:22

I don’t know if it’s that weird. Unusual, definitely. But most posters have said they’ve had an early drink on certain occasions. And it’s not as if she sat down with a bowl of cornflakes and a glass of wine, she just finished the dregs as she was clearing up.
I used to have a Buck’s Fizz with breakfast on christmas morning, and I did a lot of morning drinking as a student living in student shared housing!

(It May be worth noting that I am currently evaluating my own relationship with alcohol, as I do worry I might have or be developing a problem with drinking.)

dayinlifeof · 06/05/2018 10:22

No, not like that. I tend to only drink alcohol in the evenings as if we're out at lunch I am the one driving and, in any case, it'd make me too sleepy in the afternoon.

WeAllHaveWings · 06/05/2018 10:24

Special occasions only. Lasttime was our annual girls day out, 7 of us, and we started the day with a sneaky bottle of bubbly and nibbles on the 9am train to Edinburgh.

Your friends morning drink does sound a bit unusual.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 06/05/2018 10:24

House parties
Festivals
Birthday
Xmas day
Airports

Def got my moneys worth from that place and will def be going there again. Grin

Lucisky · 06/05/2018 10:25

When I worked nights and finished at 7 am, I used to have a glass of wine and a snack when I got home before I went to bed. It was my 'winding down' method.

Missingstreetlife · 06/05/2018 10:25

I guess if there was a drink problem it would be all drunk last night?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 06/05/2018 10:25

Even at Viking battle reenactments, we had the good sense to leave the alcohol until after the battle.

stourton · 06/05/2018 10:25

I remember them serving beer for breakfast in Germany.

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 06/05/2018 10:28

On holiday, I used to drink the second we arrived at the airport to the second we landed back in England.

At Christmas and Bank Holidays it was fair game.

I’m known for a nice drink at tea and evenings sometimes but I have a small person now that destroys any relaxing fun and though sometimes regrettably, toddlers and alcohol don’t really go hand in hand.

TheStoic · 06/05/2018 10:30

She probably just didn’t want you to tip it down the sink. Waste not, want not.

Onlyoldontheoutside · 06/05/2018 10:30

Champagne breakfast after night duty back in the day.
Now it's Christmas,I can't even drink now at midday as I get too sleepy.Hiwever I will be shipping prosecco in the sun this afternoon (I am working tomorrow and like to make sure I have not had a drink in the evening as they seem to be doing random breathalyser testing on my way into work)

longhairdocare · 06/05/2018 10:31

Asked friend, she says she didn’t want to waste it!

She’s no more of a drinker than I am I don’t think. I am a bit of a lightweight and just get tired which is what happened last night. We’d had a long hot day shopping and walking and had quite an early night (missed the end of Sex in the City 2) whatever time that finished.

Only on Christmas Day or on a holiday flight 🤗🤗 (a vodka and coke and a hot breakfast once made me nice and sleepy for a cramped flight to Sharm once).

There might have been the odd 11am pre-wedding glasses of fizz on occasion but tea is my normal before noon beverage of choice.

Seren85 · 06/05/2018 10:32

Yes if not yet been to bed/at the airport/at a festival/early wedding/early brunch. But I've never got up after a night of drinking round a mate's house and decided to randomly have the last glass of leftover wine.

rosamore · 06/05/2018 10:32

Mimosas, champagne or a Bloody Mary with breakfast or brunch in the morning is fairly normal imo.

Airport drinking is fairly normal in the morning too, but I don't personally partake. My dad, however, will have a pint at the airport whatever the time of the flight.

In my youth I was also known to have a can of cider first thing in the morning at festivals or camping (like an apple juice...), but again, I wouldn't do that now.

Pool holidays where you're lazing around from 9am by the pool, a cocktail or a g&t or something is quite socially acceptable by 10.30/11am.

A glass of wine first thing in the morning is a bit weird though....

Sirzy · 06/05/2018 10:33

Coach trip to wembley, we left at 6.30 and people started drinking straight away. I waited TIL 10 at least

Bettyfood · 06/05/2018 10:33

Have had a champagne breakfast, which was nice, but was still a bit weird to have alcohol in the morning.

FreddyFasbear · 06/05/2018 10:34

I am impressed by her constitution! I’d vomit rings around myself if I tried to have a hair of the dog. I’m a lightweight though and 4 real ales is a heavy night on the piss to me. I can’t drink wine as it’s too strong Blush she’s impressive, your friend!

Slartybartfast · 06/05/2018 10:35

tempted to, but never done

MinesaPinot · 06/05/2018 10:35

Yes, but not in the way your friend did. Champagne breakfast on Christmas Day and when we we've been to Royal Ascot (we arrive early to secure good spaces in the car park!).

And on Cup Final day, when we go to a regular pub which opens for a select few (ahem) for breakfast. We have been known to stand in the churchyard across the road from the pub drinking fizz if we've got there a bit early. God knows what my DM would say if she knew.....

ToadOfSadness · 06/05/2018 10:37

Only Bloody Mary or Bucks Fizz (mine without the OJ) with breakfast, and depending on whether late morning counts, cocktails in Barbados at a beach bar, in the rain as there was nothing else to do.

applecatchers36 · 06/05/2018 10:38

Bucks fizz on Christmas day
Wedding day
A fancy holiday where it was all inclusive with an ex boyfriend

OuchLegoHurts · 06/05/2018 10:38

If your friend had a drink problem she wouldn't have only had less than half a bottle of wine with you last night!
