I have a friend staying. We had wine last night and there was about a glass left in the bottle. MY FRIEND HAS JUST DRUNK IT FOR BREAKFAST!

This isn’t normal is it?!

I've been to parties where a lot has been drunk, but then there were a lot of people there. I've known the host to put a just opened bottle of wine back into the fridge, but no way would the remaining glasses of wine have been drunk. All thrown out, probably amounting to two bottles of wine to be honest.

Champagne breakfast on honeymoon in Paris. Another one while on a cruise which DH arranged as a surprise (the breakfast not the cruise) because I’d been having a bit of a shitty time.

But no I don’t think it’s normal to drink at breakfast time in the usual run of things.

longhairdocare · 06/05/2018 11:24

Well it’s after 11 if anyone fancies a tipple lol!

I have occasionally had a bucks fizz at breakfast on special occasions, Baileys coffee about 10/11am on Christmas Day and probably had a glass of wine in a pub just before 12 I would imagine over the years.

Drinking a glass of wine at 10am for breakfast is a bit odd though. Does she often drink at breakfast or is it just a one off thing?

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 06/05/2018 11:27

Only at Glastonbury. nostalgic sigh

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 06/05/2018 11:28

And Christmas, forgot about Christmas.

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 06/05/2018 11:29

Oh yeah, and the airport. Forgot about that too.

OohIsThatAFlake · 06/05/2018 11:31

Every day for a long time, to stop the shakes but I was a functioning alcoholic at the time

MumofBoysx2 · 06/05/2018 11:31

Somehow bucks fizz on a Christmas/wedding morning are OK but I couldn't stomach wine before lunchtime!

expatinscotland · 06/05/2018 11:32

Not in a long, long time.

longhairdocare · 06/05/2018 11:32

Babybearsporij I don’t know, she doesn’t normally stay over because she lives very close but DH is away so we’d had a girly day shopping and an evening pampering so she just stayed.

Yes, a couple of times. I did what your friend did, I drank what was leftover in the bottle when I got up, because I couldn't stop myself.
I did realise I was going too far, and after that I started pouring anything left in the bottle down the sink before I went to bed. (Eventually I accepted I had a drinking problem and completely quit for 6 years).
Drinking bucks fizz (or even bloody marys) as part of a special celebratory breakfast is a slightly different situation, though even then I would be careful it didn't get to be too much of a habit.

YellowLily · 06/05/2018 11:33

Weddings, maybe opening a bottle of champagne in the morning whilst getting ready to have a glass to toast bride.

Holidays

Christmas

Other than that no... I wouldn’t class it as normal, special occasion only!

Amanduh · 06/05/2018 11:34

Yes. Holidays etc... when we’ve been going on a day out/trip to the races etc.. and possibly on a bank holiday weekend 😂

QueenOfMyWorld · 06/05/2018 11:37

I've had a glass of red with a bacon buttie before.Hair of the dog

LapinR0se · 06/05/2018 11:44

Yuck I actually felt a bit sick reading that

Clevs · 06/05/2018 11:44

After a night shift.
At the airport.
Whilst camping.
Whilst on holiday.

That's about the only times I have.

Baubletrouble43 · 06/05/2018 12:30

I've just had a glass of wine while the twins nap [big grin]

Baubletrouble43 · 06/05/2018 12:30

beasternunny · 06/05/2018 12:34

I had a can of sommersby cider in the fridge. Tasted like fizzy apple juice. Drank that at 9.30 one morning after taking the kids to school. Just because I fancied something cold and fizzy. But I drink something alcoholic once in a blue moon and haven't been so much as tipsy in about 10 years!

Chattymummyhere · 06/05/2018 12:42

Holidays/Christmas yeah. Random champagne and pancake breakfast yeah. Otherwise at least after 11am starting a bbq.

CobaltRose · 06/05/2018 12:45

Only time I've drunk alcohol before midday is at Christmas.

twinkledag · 06/05/2018 13:12

Never. Sounds pretty gross.

mancmummy1414 · 06/05/2018 14:05

Christmas, birthdays, weddings.
Used to do HOTD when I was younger and had a skinful the night before (Wetherspoons breakfast and a pint) but not any more, yak.
