Hi, first time poster/long-time lurker..

We got 2 'siamese' cats from a local rescue, about 6 weeks ago. They're brothers, about 15 months in age. They follow me around the house and make yappy noises. They try and jump on stuff, but fall down and are in fact generally pretty clumsy. They get really excited when there is cheese in the room. They don't understand how 90% of cat toys work, and look genuinely confused when we try to play with them, or try to show them how the treat (dispensing) ball works. I'm starting to wonder if they're dogs. Or aliens... AIBU?

They sound awesome!

Possibly aliens.

Give them their cheese!

RandomMess · 01/05/2018 18:12

Sounds like Siamese to me...

One of ours has just sat on grated cheese rather than eat it Confused

NapQueen · 01/05/2018 18:12

They sound great!

YouStacey · 01/05/2018 18:12

All cats are aliens - fact.

Tamingoftheglue · 01/05/2018 18:14

Who doesn't like cheese, really?!

They sound like cats I could get along with.

Aprilmightbemynewname · 01/05/2018 18:14

Surely you know the rules op?

MrsMozart · 01/05/2018 18:14

Funclesmuck · 01/05/2018 18:15

I need a picture or no comment from me!

SweepTheHalls · 01/05/2018 18:15

Sparklesocks · 01/05/2018 18:16

Wolfiefan · 01/05/2018 18:17

Siamese aren't cats. They're Siamese. Grin

NorthernLurker · 01/05/2018 18:19

You can get Siamese in rescues? I had one as a kid. Bloody love them. Have you seen the YouTube video of the woman taking a shower and her Siamese cats are not pleased?

Checklist · 01/05/2018 18:20

Idk, but our last cat used to look at us, as if we were aliens, if we tried to engage her with cat toys! She never ever played with cat toys, but loved playing with plastic pegs! She was a great hunter though, and must have eliminated the local shrew population....

One of our present cats loves cheese; and her favourite toy is grape stalks! You tell me how a grape stalk is attractive to a cat?

Your two just sound like typical cats - perverse, out of sheer delight in seeing us waste money on objects, they despise!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 01/05/2018 18:20

Siamese cats are really different from other cats. Really noisy and vocal, demanding and they're supposed to be one of the most intelligent breeds. I'm not sure why yours are acting so drunk and confused! I suppose from a rescue centre they could be inbred with genetic defects or they could have missed out on any socialisation?

I think we need a pic anyway. They sound very sweet. Smile

FrazzledAndFeelingIt · 01/05/2018 18:21

I had a jack Russell who thought she was a cat so perhaps they swapped bodies?!

Def need photo.

bookwormnerd · 01/05/2018 18:21

My 2 are clumsy (they are moggies) one of them in past has run in to the window about 3 times trying to catch a bird on the outside, one plays fetch like a dog and both have fallen down while rolling around and purring. One of mine insists on being cuddled at night. They go crazy for cheese, it's their favourite snack.

HateTheDF · 01/05/2018 18:21

My DM loves Siamese and I grew up surrounded by them, they sound exactly like every Siamese we had. If you tried to play with them, they'd look at you like you're an idiot. I do miss the meowing, never thought I would do.

bookwormnerd · 01/05/2018 18:22

Your cats sound brilliant, just be ready to be pestered endlessly for cheese

LaDilettante · 01/05/2018 18:23

Siamese cats are very different from ordinary cats. They’re very vocal and talk all the time. They behave a lot like dogs and like to fetch toys back like a dog. You can also train them very easily to walk on a leash like a dog. They’re completely attached to their owner as opposed to being attached to the place where they leave. They wouldn’t walk miles to find your old house if you moved. They just want to be with you. They can be very exclusive and behave like your personal body guard. They're very affectionate. They’re also very clever but very stubborn. So if they’ve decided they don’t want use your treat dispenser, they won’t use it and will wait for their favourite slave to dispense the treat instead Smile They also tend to treat playing as a very serious matter. Think serious intensive hunting training not silly cat games.

Sounds like fully functioning Siamese cats to me!

DramaAlpaca · 01/05/2018 18:23

That's Siamese for you!

Please can we see a picture, pretty please?

Siamese cats and showers Grin

LaDilettante · 01/05/2018 18:25

They also don’t care for catnip but go nuts for mint.

TyrionsNextWife · 01/05/2018 18:25

Yup, sounds like a typical Siamese Grin
I’m amazed at how intelligent my Siamese is sometimes, and then 10 mins later he’ll do something so stupid that I’m left wondering how he lived to adulthood.
