Hi, first time poster/long-time lurker..

We got 2 'siamese' cats from a local rescue, about 6 weeks ago. They're brothers, about 15 months in age. They follow me around the house and make yappy noises. They try and jump on stuff, but fall down and are in fact generally pretty clumsy. They get really excited when there is cheese in the room. They don't understand how 90% of cat toys work, and look genuinely confused when we try to play with them, or try to show them how the treat (dispensing) ball works. I'm starting to wonder if they're dogs. Or aliens... AIBU?

One of our vegetarian neighbour had a 'vegetarian' cat, who was very healthy. What she didn't realise was he used to go in through any available cat flaps and nick the other village cats' food!

oh Baddumtsss, I'm so sorry for your loss. He sounds like a most wonderful friend and companion, and was a stunning looking boy xx

Siamese cats have a very unique personality. They're amazing.

AgnesSkinner · 03/05/2018 21:43

biddie are you thinking of the 60s Disney movie called “That Darn Cat!”?

When we brought my exotic shorthair Home he foamed at the mouth when he saw toys 🙈 now he's a regular menace

DwangelaForever · 03/05/2018 21:46

@YouStacey I've been saying this for years cats=aliens that's why the ancient Egyptians worshipped them and the great pyramids of Giza match up with the stars 🌟

cozietoesie · 03/05/2018 22:20

My first cat - a seal point - had a kink in his tail and used to cross his eyes. Smile

NatashaGurdin · 03/05/2018 22:57

Do any of your cats like to lick you obsessively? I've got two litter mates, brothers, one black and white, one white and black who are about three, I adopted them from a local shelter when they were about five months old and they are OBSESSED with licking! They hold your hands down to do it if they can with their claws.

From their looks as they have got older, I think they have some oriental ancestry because they have large ears, triangular faces with prominent noses and are quite vocal (particularly the white and black one who is also obsessed with food!).

I've had several cats before them of mixed ancestries and have never encountered this behaviour before and my vet just laughed when I asked them if they knew why they did it!

Best thread ever! Have shown all the pics to my other half and read all the funny anecdotes, but no joy and I'm still only allowed the two cats I already have. He's convinced that he's saved me from being a crazy cat lady for the rest of my life, but is suspicious that one day I will corrupt my five-month-old son and come home with something from the local shelter. Anyhoo. My two mogs are one deaf domestic short hair called Anubis (or Lil Legs at home) and a 3/4 Birman 1/4 Siamese called Osiris (or Ozzie).

Ozzie is without doubt the most affectionate creature I have ever known and, even though he's pretty much destroyed every delicate possession I've been stupid enough to keep on display (including two houses), I love him to pieces. There's no way I could teach him to fetch stuff as he thinks that's my job. He's definitely arrogant (seal point?! Really? Keep it real cat, Dirty Beige) and watches my other cat with disdain and utter desperation at times.

Your cats are gorgeous and sound wonderfully bonkers OP. Thanks for starting this post and please keep us informed with their progress, its so nice to hear of a heart-warming shelter story ❤

i adopted my siamese when he was 3. It took 2 years before he would play and then only with his favourite pipecleaner spider or a tennis ball (yours like plastic, mine goes nuts for rubber.)

They are funny! Mine is now upstairs sound asleep - more aahhs from me than even my DC when they were that age and asleep!!

greenlanes · 03/05/2018 23:43

Cozie - I miss the kink in the tail! My current one doesnt have one. I tell him he is not a proper Siamese!! (He run off and scratches the stair carpet so not a good move on my part!)

cozietoesie · 04/05/2018 00:31

It was regarded as a defect and 'bred out'.

cozietoesie · 04/05/2018 00:35

My current boy (PB) has BIG ISHOOS. He's s seal point forbye he's officially a chocolate point. I have great hopes of him coming to cuddle one day. At the moment, that's just not on.

imweirdandcool · 04/05/2018 02:05

lol they sound like a lovely pair

Biddie191 · 04/05/2018 10:30

AgnesSkinner - I think I've confused that one with the cat from outer space - was sure in my head that was a Siamese, but it appears to be ginger.....

Iseveryusernametaken · 05/05/2018 18:01

One of my kittens (almost 1) turns up her nose at steak, prawns and tuna but steals haribo cola bottles. Her favourite thing to play with is a balloon. She gets ridiculously excited and chirrupps at them. She's really gentle, usually takes her at least an hour to burst them

Cindie943811A · 06/05/2018 10:51

Anyone who thinks all cats are graceful is deluded. As Aby owner for 30 odd years I knojust how clumsy they can be. Very athletic but bumble footed.
And most dogs don’t aspic sleeping on one’s head, so I’d saylien with some dog like traits but overly gorgeous and affectionate.

MHeyes24 · 06/05/2018 14:07

I have two oriental cats and they are just like this, very athletic but one has minimal coordination and is gangly. They are awesome cats and very loving and loyal but as someone has said they are stubborn and have very individual characters plus if rescues they ma my have been runts or with someone who didn't understand that they are a different breed with different needs to other cats, they can be trained but also only if they want to and both of mine are totally different personalities. One is super cuddly the other not so much give them lots of love and company and they will reward you . I had a rescue Siamese about 20 years ago and have always had one or two... ever since. Good luck and let me know if you need more advice x

I am so happy I posted about my 'defective' boys, the responses have been awesome, especially the tales of other aliencatdogs and accompanying pictures. We started letting them upstairs at night as we missed them, of all the cats I've had over the years this is the first time I've had any who actually get in to bed with us! As in not just on top of/next to us, but right in-between us under the duvet!!! They are the sweetest, funniest little creatures in the world. (Apart from the eye bogies!)

Aww...they nice boys. Our Jayda does this with me once in a while. Meanwhile, here is a picture of Gatsby that I took the other day. No idea what was going through his mind. In case it's not obvious, he's lying on his back with his paws out.

MHeyes24 · 07/05/2018 14:13
