Hi, first time poster/long-time lurker..

We got 2 'siamese' cats from a local rescue, about 6 weeks ago. They're brothers, about 15 months in age. They follow me around the house and make yappy noises. They try and jump on stuff, but fall down and are in fact generally pretty clumsy. They get really excited when there is cheese in the room. They don't understand how 90% of cat toys work, and look genuinely confused when we try to play with them, or try to show them how the treat (dispensing) ball works. I'm starting to wonder if they're dogs. Or aliens... AIBU?

To be fair WalkingDead you did bring up that your cat is vegetarian. It's rather unusual and doesn't he hunt small animals outside?

Love the pics OP. They're very spoilt with bed choices that's for sure Grin

🙂

agnurse · 01/05/2018 21:18

Cats actually cannot be vegetarian. They are obligate carnivores. Their intestinal tract is too short to properly absorb nutrients from plants.

sexnotgender · 01/05/2018 21:20

My defective cat is sitting beside me staring intently at the ceiling for no discernible reason.

NorthernLurker · 01/05/2018 21:22

Candu sadly they aren't mine. Our precious family pet is a Black and white rescue but part of my heart will always be with the seal point Siamese.

sexnotgender · 01/05/2018 21:26

Defective cat number 2 shouts at me while I'm getting ready for work. My crime? As far as I can understand it's because I haven't kicked my husband out of bed. She doesn't like sharing the bed and she only shouts at me when I'm up and he's not!
She is an absolute loon but utterly adorable.

sexnotgender · 01/05/2018 21:26

As soon as he gets up she goes straight to the bed and goes to sleep.

SideOrderofSprouts · 01/05/2018 21:29

I have a part main coon

He doesn’t think he is a cat. He isn’t actually sure what he is. Apart from the fact he likes to sleep with me like a human baby, tells me when he’s taken a shit and you could set your clock by his stomach...

SideOrderofSprouts · 01/05/2018 21:30

Also my cat appears to be the size of a small dog.

SideOrderofSprouts · 01/05/2018 21:31

Here is daft cat in action

SideOrderofSprouts · 01/05/2018 21:31

Stupid phone

or did we get sold defective cats?
Claire90ftm · 01/05/2018 21:36

Can I just say that cats shouldn't have cheese or milk. They're lactose intolerant.

Wolfiefan · 01/05/2018 21:39

I think some cats can eat cheese and drink milk. Most shouldn't. Trouble is you don't know which your cat is until the upset stomach starts!!

Claire90ftm · 01/05/2018 21:40

@Walkingdeadfangirl I can't even. People like you make my blood boil. If you don't want to feed an animal meat then don't get an animal that is an obligate carnivore! To impose vegetarianism on him/her is extremely selfish and abusive. Perhaps next time get a hamster??? Just wow....

Claire90ftm · 01/05/2018 21:40

@Wolfiefan hmm, well I wouldn't risk it.

Wolfiefan · 01/05/2018 21:41

Claire me neither!! But it's not true that no cats can tolerate it.

FactsAreNotMean · 01/05/2018 21:49

sideorderofsprouts being the size of a small dog is totally maine coon traits - my big boy weighs 28lb. I forget how big they are then I see a normal cat!

I'd say they're about cocker spaniel sized...

justawhisper · 01/05/2018 21:51

oh, you have red points!
good luck! :)

justawhisper · 01/05/2018 21:53

also, siamese do love to chew bags i'm afraid.

poobumwee · 01/05/2018 21:53

absolutely love meezys. We have two oriental girls-a havana and a caramel silver tabby. beautiful girls. the havana likes to fetch socks for us-if we throw them she brings them back to us. so funny

Walkingdeadfangirl · 01/05/2018 22:04

I only mentioned my cat was vegetarian in case it was connected to why he likes cheese. As for those saying they cant be vegetarian I have proof otherwise, they can be and are, I have one. Had they ever had any health problems I would have changed their diet but vet has always said they are happy and healthy, for the past 14 years.

justawhisper · 01/05/2018 22:40

My Siamese lad

or did we get sold defective cats?
SemperIdem · 01/05/2018 22:52

This thread has not so much stoked as thrown petrol on the fire that is my desire to get a cat, specifically a Siamese. I have loved them since I was little

cozietoesie · 01/05/2018 23:15

Go for it, Semper. Once you've lived with a Siamese...........Smile

cozietoesie · 01/05/2018 23:17

My DBro, who is not an emotional man, blurted out last year 'A house is not a home unless it has a Siamese in it......' Wink
