Hi, first time poster/long-time lurker..

We got 2 'siamese' cats from a local rescue, about 6 weeks ago. They're brothers, about 15 months in age. They follow me around the house and make yappy noises. They try and jump on stuff, but fall down and are in fact generally pretty clumsy. They get really excited when there is cheese in the room. They don't understand how 90% of cat toys work, and look genuinely confused when we try to play with them, or try to show them how the treat (dispensing) ball works. I'm starting to wonder if they're dogs. Or aliens... AIBU?

He even co-ordinates with your bathroom!!
My younger cat has been trying to thieves bits of people's dinner as they eat out in the nice weather the last couple of days. Little menace!

Gatsby used to go after my food all the time. I had to remind him it wasn't Gatsby food and his was downstairs. He's better now though.

Jayda doesn't go after my food unless it's tuna. Then I give her a little bit.

Biggie will not touch human food. Won't even eat tuna, though he likes the water. (We suspect Biggie was maybe dropped on his head at some point Grin)

Poor Biggie! (Maybe he's just being extra polite.) Sad

agnurse · 07/05/2018 20:44

Well, if there are cat treats on offer he's right in there to get his share. He starts giving what we call his "disgruntled chirp" if he doesn't get his treats in what he considers a timely fashion (i.e. within a couple of minutes).

cozietoesie · 07/05/2018 20:49

Quite right. (And he waits to check that you're being 'timely'.) Seems very polite to me. Wink

My part siamese rescue boy, who certainly has a unique personality.
Currently terrified of the new rug and will only walk around it.

Definitely defective ;)

Lordy. Is that a real lizard ? (AKA 'Breakfast' at cozietowers, I suspect.)

LanaorAna2 · 07/05/2018 21:35

Jarvis is outrageously superb Grin

alltoomuch er, love, that 'defective cat' looks awfully like a komodo dragon. Words with the pet shop, I would.

alltoomuchrightnow · 07/05/2018 21:46

yes, he has two little green rescue 'sisters' whom adore him and vice versa. In fact he was 'brought up' by the old male I had!

cozietoesie · 07/05/2018 21:49

Well you're very brave - PB would have its head off. (After stalking it for a little.)

LanaorAna2 · 07/05/2018 22:10

Well, cats get on with humans so I don't see why a bossy lizard would have anything to worry about.

PB would indeed disagree.

alltoomuch

He looks to be a nice boy. It's amazing how well some animals of different species can get on. Before we adopted Gatsby, my kid's friend brought her puppy over just for a few minutes. Jayda took off as she is afraid of dogs. Biggie tried to make friends with the puppy. (The puppy appeared not to know quite what to make of him Grin) Apparently bearded dragons get on very nicely with cats too. When I was a kid we had a cat who was terrified of hamsters. Mind, this was a cat we adopted from her mother when she was 3 weeks old because she was a runt and dying of malnutrition. Once my brother's hamster got out of his cage. Mom found the hamster drinking out of the cat's water dish while the cat cowered in fear on the step. Ironically this was a very friendly teddy bear hamster who realistically posed almost no risk to the cat.

alltoomuchrightnow · 07/05/2018 22:31

oh, it's the lizards that control him, very much. Very bossy ladies. He loves it.

alltoomuchrightnow · 07/05/2018 22:34

Scared of hamsters awww!
My cat used to bring mice to my old lizard (dead mice) though I had to intervene there (but in the wild they'd both eat mice, so it makes sense) I actually have a photo of him pushing the mouse towards the dragon's head.. so sweet. My girls HAVE eaten mice he's brought in but only because I wasn't quick enough to remove. The girls jump on him when he's asleep and he just purrs and rubs his head on them. They all play well together, after all they'd all chase mice in the wild.. they respond to toys and movement the same way he does, they all play with toys on string or chase in the play tunnel though the lizards are far more rough with the toys (they bang them on the floor to try and kill them!)

That's the most interesting post I've read on MN! They are all clearly persons of distinction.

cozietoesie · 08/05/2018 01:10

I recall that my father once caught a canary/budgie (whichever is bright yellow) in the garden. (He could move very quickly if he needed to.) The bird - swollen to an umpty size by eating in the cabbage patch - was absolutely furious about captivity and was squawking it's head off. Prior to heading for the vet, Dad showed it to Firstcat who was coming down the stairs. Firstcat - an inveterate coward - took one, horrified, look and headed back upstairs to remain sequestered for the rest of the day.

I rather think that PB would have behaved differently. Grin

ElizaDontlittle · 08/05/2018 07:34

Pinching my food is fair enough, going round the happily barbecuing neighbours scrounging is something else entirely I apologised furiously. Good job they all think he is cute!
I love the lizards interacting with the cat!! And why not share the spoils. Do you think the cat thinks they are, um, kind of kittens??!

LanaorAna2 · 08/05/2018 13:32

They should bring PB in to clear up the parakeet 'problem' in South London. He would not flinch where thousands have failed :)

The parakeets are very cheerful at the mo, neon green flashes against the white blossom trees. They are currently in residence at the local prep school, thieving snacks from small sticky paws. And menacing the patients at the hospice who are trying to enjoy their Last Meal.

cozietoesie · 08/05/2018 13:48

I think that PB would approve of their general approach - not given to 'unnecessary sentiment' is PB - but would still have their asses on general principle. Grin
