Hi, first time poster/long-time lurker..

We got 2 'siamese' cats from a local rescue, about 6 weeks ago. They're brothers, about 15 months in age. They follow me around the house and make yappy noises. They try and jump on stuff, but fall down and are in fact generally pretty clumsy. They get really excited when there is cheese in the room. They don't understand how 90% of cat toys work, and look genuinely confused when we try to play with them, or try to show them how the treat (dispensing) ball works. I'm starting to wonder if they're dogs. Or aliens... AIBU?

i love cats but find Siamese seriously creepy.

CremeBrulee · 01/05/2018 20:07

Beautiful cats - not only Siamese but red point Siamese! Gorgeous and quirky by nature.

penguingirl · 01/05/2018 20:08

Yes, that could be it rosieposey, they had a real tough time of it. Obviously they were bereaved and had to go to the shelter (a wonderful one with lovely people but still a shelter,) then they had to be neutered (shelter policy, completely understandable,) then they got cat flu (it ended up taking 5 weeks from us meeting them and being home-checked to them actually coming home.) They are both showing signs of being settled (relaxed instead of jumpy, eating well and going from loose to solid motions, hope no-ones eating their dinner, sorry!) so it'll be interesting to see if the plastic licking/chewing continues to be a thing...

Oh OP, they are gorgeous! One of my cats is obsessed with cheese too. No one can go in the fridge without her magically appearing at the door with her pleading face.

penguingirl · 01/05/2018 20:10

cheese with marmite?! Confused

We had a Calico moggie with a thing for chlorine. If we bleached the floors, she'd lick it up and if anyone had wet swimming kit, she'd practically wrap herself up in it.

She had nothing to do with cat toys, but if you ate a mars bar she'd wait for the waxed paper wrapper and would spend ages batting it across the room then stalking it, wiggling her bum and pouncing on it. She was also besties with our Irish setter and they'd team up together to steal food from high places. We caught the cat batting down fairy cakes that were cooling on top of a tall cupboard while the dog was gobbling them up, cases and everything!

Yep that's Siamese for you!

I have Ragdoll's, some days I'm not sure if I have cats or fluffy dusters that trip me up on stairs.

VanGoghsOtherEar · 01/05/2018 20:12

no, they are mice! Grin

sdaisy26 · 01/05/2018 20:12

Aw sounds like my Tonkinese who is the most beautiful thing imaginable but also the loudest most demanding of all my children (and still hasn't forgiven us for having actual DC even though it's been nearly 6 years now).

You'll be able to teach them to fetch as well I expect.

Papergirl1968 · 01/05/2018 20:13

Ahh, they are lovely. We had Siamese when I was a teenager and they are little characters. Although to be fair so is my current tabby.
Do come over to the Litter Tray and check out the PB and his fantastic followers thread, PB being Precious Boy aka Psycho Boy, a Siamese rescue.

VanGoghsOtherEar · 01/05/2018 20:14

i have ragdolls some day's i'm not sure if i have cats or fluffy dusters

this made me LOL. My friend's Maine Coon has a tail which reminds me of a huge feather duster. it's awesome! I also have a huge fluffy (Peruvian) guinea pig who reminds me of a yorkshire terrier. she begs for food a lot. I adore her.

OP your cats sound wonderfully quirky and cool. Enjoy them.

BlowAnne · 01/05/2018 20:16

😻😻gorgeous cats op!

Mousefunky · 01/05/2018 20:16

They’re not known for being particularly smart cats.

lljkk · 01/05/2018 20:19

My cats have zero interest in cheese! They sometimes lick the mayo or any cream residue.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 01/05/2018 20:20

I had cheese and Marmite sandwiches for lunch. And I’m quite vocal...

CoolCarrie · 01/05/2018 20:21

They are beautiful.
I was wrong it was Lady And The Tramp as pp said.

Wheretheresawill1 · 01/05/2018 20:22

My Siamese allows me to live with her and share a bed- each morning she lounges in bed saying get yourself to work mother so I can have nice things

Liara · 01/05/2018 20:22

I have a six year old cat who loves to chew plastic. I have no idea why. She is the loveliest, most cuddly cat you can imagine, but leave anything resembling a plastic bag accessible and she's chewing it in a second.

Totally nuts

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/05/2018 20:23

Siamese are very vocal and affectionate (they are the "dog-like cat"), and in my experience tom cats are as agile as heffalumps.

Our lady cats could walk along a washing line with no problems - the two fat bastards we have now even fall off the bed on a regular basis.

happymumof4crazykids · 01/05/2018 20:25

@Walkingdeadfangirl why is your cat vegetarian?

thegreylady · 01/05/2018 20:33

They are Siamese. Siamese cats are a strange alien life form quite separate form other felines. They ‘talk’ they can ‘fetch’ they really like humans, cheese and Marmite on toast. You are fortunate to have them.

cansu · 01/05/2018 20:36

Wow Northern Lurker - your cats are beautiful but very strong minded!

TheFirstMrsOsmond · 01/05/2018 20:38

I have just watched the Siamese cats/shower video and am amazed! I love cats but have never had a Siamese and had no idea they had all the distinctive characteristics mentioned by everyone here

Walkingdeadfangirl · 01/05/2018 20:40

happymumof4crazykids My cat is vegetarian (just like me) because I made that choice, he is 14 years old, fit & happy, and never had a health problem in his life.

But please dont derail this thread, if you have a problem with happy healthy vegetarian cats then start a different thread.

inkandstone · 01/05/2018 20:42

They're absolutely gorgeous! You're so lucky to have found each other.
