Hi, first time poster/long-time lurker..

We got 2 'siamese' cats from a local rescue, about 6 weeks ago. They're brothers, about 15 months in age. They follow me around the house and make yappy noises. They try and jump on stuff, but fall down and are in fact generally pretty clumsy. They get really excited when there is cheese in the room. They don't understand how 90% of cat toys work, and look genuinely confused when we try to play with them, or try to show them how the treat (dispensing) ball works. I'm starting to wonder if they're dogs. Or aliens... AIBU?

One of my cats plays fetch too and both of them are fairly clumsy. One of them follows us round all day shouting too.

TheHulksPurplePanties · 01/05/2018 18:27

Wait till they start opening your doors and turning on the taps. The clumsy confused thing is an act.

TheWernethWife · 01/05/2018 18:27

We have two Siamese boys, they talk to us, follow us around the house, (can't have a wee in peace, someone wants to sit on your knee and purr). One doesn't like me having a shower, he sits outside and yells. They are funny little creatures with a box full of cat toys but prefer to play with a piece of string.

mavismcruet · 01/05/2018 18:28

Cheese is cat crack. My cat would sell the dog for a nibble of cheddar Grin

SuziePink · 01/05/2018 18:29

My parent's cat, AKA my soulmate, doesn't get cat toys either and only really enjoys playing with string. She's scared of men, babies who are awake (fine if they're asleep), children in general, dogs and even been known to be scared by birds. She likes sitting on tables, particularly glass ones, sulks if you don't do what she wants, doesn't sit on laps but hates being too far away from you. She can't hunt and sits outside hoping a passing bird or mammal will pop into her mouth.

She's very sweet, but not a cat!

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/05/2018 18:29

Sound like typical contrary siamese

We have a trio of Maine Coons, and they're definitely dogs rather than the advertised cats

Walkingdeadfangirl · 01/05/2018 18:30

My cat loves cheese and anything I am eating (he is vegetarian), especially when I am grating it. Also follows me around the house and neighbourhood. Everyone says he is more like a dog, never occurred to me that it was unusual behaviour.

Pics please!

Ollivander84 · 01/05/2018 18:38

Mine is also defective. He licks my face, sleeps on me, shouts "mama" and would rather cuddle in my arms than go outside. He couldn't catch a cold Hmm
It's like having an extremely cuddly toddler

Mooey89 · 01/05/2018 18:39

Our cat likes to play fetch. He’s convinced he’s a dog.

We have a cat that chases it's tail like a dog...only he will do it on the back of the sofa, on the stairs where he will tumble down them, and in the garden goes a over t doing complete somersaults.

He once bit his tail too hard and yelped in surprise

BikeRunSki · 01/05/2018 18:42

Do they look like this?

or did we get sold defective cats?
legolammb · 01/05/2018 18:45

The love of cheese and following you around sounds just like my BSH cat, and I get a look of contempt if I try and get her to play with anything

Troels · 01/05/2018 18:47

BikeRunSki My boys loved that cartoon misses the point
I like the look of Siamese, never had one, only cats we had were moggies, who were also very demanding and would sit on anything you wanted to read, eat, or play with.

Wolfiefan · 01/05/2018 18:55

Cool. Loved those cats!!

ICantCopeAnymore · 01/05/2018 18:55

They sound like normal Siamese cats to me Grin

They are very unique. Bloody awesome though, I miss mine.

harriethoyle · 01/05/2018 18:56

They sound like me Grin

Justonedayatatime11 · 01/05/2018 18:56

They sound completely defective, you’d better send them to live with me Grin

TatianaLarina · 01/05/2018 18:58

It’s a bit odd for them to jump and fall. Did they have their claws clipped at the rescue place?

RandomMess · 01/05/2018 19:08

Our boy cat brings us gifts such as living squirrels still frequently misses his jump in the house!!! Think it's the pedigree element personally Grin

SarfE4sticated · 01/05/2018 19:10

Our first rescue cat, became extremely animated when we ate a bag of quavers for the first after she arrived. Almost grabbed them out of my DD's handf. Not having a cat before, I didn't have a clue that they liked cheese as was a bit weirded out by it! It was very useful though as when she was ill and needed her tablets, i could wrap them in cheese and she would scarf them down without hesitation.
