Would you be pissed off if your partner went to one of these sleazy places? Am I overreacting to be pissed off about dh going to one when he knew I'd be cross about it ? I'm not hopping mad but I'm certainly very unimpressed!

YABU. I’m going there for my dinner tonight and to watch sport.

It’s not sleazy, it’s honestly a sports bar with slightly skimpy outfits. Have friends that worked there and they are paid well and enjoy it.

BaldricksTrousers · 30/04/2018 16:34

Hooters has genuinely good food. Yes the whole waitress idea is very outmoded and sexist. But they have the best wings and are a genuinely good sports bar to drink and eat. I'm a woman and have been many times, with partners, family including children, and by myself. I can see why people would have a problem with the idea though.

Dizzylin · 30/04/2018 16:35

It wouldn't bother me but I can see why you would be upset if your DP knew it would upset you and went anyway.

steff13 · 30/04/2018 16:36

Their chicken wings are excellent.

MillicentF · 30/04/2018 16:37

“Yes the whole waitress idea is very outmoded and sexist”

But hey ho, let’s just keep on supporting them and letting our children absorb the message that the objectification of women is just fine.

Thirtyrock39 · 30/04/2018 16:37

Ok thanks I feel better reading these. The whole page 3/ glamour girl type thing is one of my big pet peeve/ soap box things so I'm definitely over sensitive about it (which dh does usually respect tbf ) but glad to hear it's not to sleazy

OP posts:
BaldricksTrousers · 30/04/2018 16:42

They're in vest tops and short shorts with tights.

Last I heard the women working there weren't being forced into it.

LakieLady · 30/04/2018 16:45

DP wouldn't dream of going, he despises shite like that almost as much as I do.

And if he had some sort of personality transplant and decided it was a good idea, I'd certainly have something to say about it.

Wildlingofthewest · 30/04/2018 16:49

give him a break.

It’s not like he’s visited a brothel!

theaveragewife · 30/04/2018 16:49

Yeah it's sleazy and grim - have any of you seen the Amy Schumer parody of it?

Popadoodledoo · 30/04/2018 16:51

Don't care if the food is good, would never go there.

Kursk · 30/04/2018 16:51

It’s a sports bar with good food, the uniform is skimpy but it’s not the main attraction.

DH has been to them normally when traveling for work. He goes because the food is reliable, and it’s normally close to the hotel.

MillicentF · 30/04/2018 16:52

Is the fact that it’s called Hooters not enough for any remotely thinking person?

Oysterbabe · 30/04/2018 16:53

You should go and check it out, it's honestly not that bad.

MillicentF · 30/04/2018 16:54

“He goes because the food is reliable, and it’s normally close to the hotel“
Grin Sure it is.

Idontdowindows · 30/04/2018 16:55

You're not oversensitive. Objectification of women is a problem. By supporting places that objectify women you are supporting an issue that greatly harms women as a class.

I would be livid if our household money went on that.

OfaFrenchmind2 · 30/04/2018 16:56

What is it with the new Puritanism on MN those days? Seriously, this is becoming tedious (and also subtly (or not) taking any agency away from the women that do not conform to the new standards)

flubdub · 30/04/2018 16:56

I wouldn't mind. I would probably want to go too!

MrsPeacockDidIt · 30/04/2018 16:57

I’ve been too, with DH. When we were in Florida it was probably the best meal out we had. We even have a hooters beer glass on the kitchen shelf. The waitresses were wearing way more clothing than I’ve seen on some young women in night clubs !

vitara · 30/04/2018 17:00

I'd like you to tell us what clothes waiters and waitresses are allowed to wear according to 'the new boss'.

WomaninGreen · 30/04/2018 17:04

Kursk "It’s a sports bar with good food, the uniform is skimpy but it’s not the main attraction."

sorry, I couldn't help wondering if you read porn mags for the articles when I saw that post Grin

with you OP.

flimflaminurjams · 30/04/2018 17:06

Yes I would because...

Its objectification
Its a bit creepy
There isn't one here for miles, so he'd be going out of his way for it
He wouldn't like it if I went to something similar for women (euwww), he'd lose what little body confidence he has, so can understand why women are offended by it.

Luckily he finds things like that disrespectful so not his cup of tea at all.

Whatshallidonowpeople · 30/04/2018 17:06

It's not sleazy, it's just a bar/restaurant.

theaveragewife · 30/04/2018 17:07

If it's a requirement of the job to have your tits and arse on display it's objectification and for the male gaze only. It underpins the role of women in society as subservient decoration, which leads to dehumanisation and male violence.

People should be free to wear what they like - don't get this confused with it.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 30/04/2018 17:07

Well if the chicken wings are good, that’s alright then!

YANBU I wouldn’t be pleased if my DH went to Hooters.
