Hooters

Would you be pissed off if your partner went to one of these sleazy places? Am I overreacting to be pissed off about dh going to one when he knew I'd be cross about it ? I'm not hopping mad but I'm certainly very unimpressed!

"This thread is weird. It reads like an advert for Hooters (Great for families! Chicken wings!) and not really the response I’d expect from MN "

Sadly, it is almost exactly the response I would expect from many Mumsnetters.

Elendon · 30/04/2018 18:43

Why not go out for a few beers and then a curry? Or a Maccies? Or do they think the latter will put them into the pervy group because it's mostly teenagers who go there?

I didn’t realise Hooters was still going.

Anyway, it’s a (fairly tacky) restaurant, not a strip club. The waitresses who choose to work there wear more than many of the young women out clubbing.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 30/04/2018 18:58

I think some of you are over reacting. It's just a place to have a few beers and enjoy the company of good looking waitresses. It's not sleazy at all, and their boneless wings are top drawer lol

It's sleazy af. It's sexist. It's objectifies women.

Did you join MN to post how much you just love Hooters?

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 30/04/2018 18:59

Sorry baz forgot to: lol.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 30/04/2018 19:00

A restaurant is a very different environment from a nightclub.

I read through that link someone posted a couple of pages ago and apparently you can't wear your hair in a ponytail. That's actually quite unhygienic when you're serving food.

I was under the impression they'd pulled out of the UK as well.

TeresasGreen · 30/04/2018 19:06

Going way back to the “would Harvey Weinstein go there”. That is a great way to judge choices! WWHD? So long as you always do the opposite you should be fine!

ForalltheSaints · 30/04/2018 19:07

I am amazed at the responses. Tacky place out of the 70s is the impression I have of Hooters, based on walking past it a few times in Amsterdam near Dam Square.

Though it is not there now.

beerbellybaz · 30/04/2018 19:08

Lol not at all, I've joined just to give a male perspective on a few things.

It's a diverse and interesting place, that's why I like it.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 30/04/2018 19:10

Lol. Mansplaining not needed thanks. Lol.

It's a diverse and interesting place, that's why I like it

Lol.

ThymeLord · 30/04/2018 19:11

Oh thank god, a male perspective. Here we were inarticulately flapping our gums until you came along.

Helmetbymidnight · 30/04/2018 19:11

This really is not objectification of women at all

yes it is.

Nanny0gg · 30/04/2018 19:15

why is it sleazy because beautiful girls work there?

Because if you aren't beautiful you can't work there. Because the men who work there wear tshirts and jeans. And because it was started by someone who wanted the girls to be sub-page 3 types because that's what appealed to the beer-and-sports guys.

I'm sure it was Hooters that was on an episode of Undercover Boss. It was illuminating.

ArcheryAnnie · 30/04/2018 19:18

It's a diverse and interesting place, that's why I like it.

Except it isn't, is it? The waitresses all have to be a certain body type (no diversity allowed) a certain age (no diversity allowed) have a certain type of hairstyle (no diversity allowed) and present themselves in a very specific way (no diversity allowed).

Ansumpasty · 30/04/2018 19:20

I took my 1 year old and the chicken wings are great. The girls who work there are fully dressed and are just normal waitresses, it’s not as sleazy as you think

ghostyslovesheets · 30/04/2018 19:20

arf at Hooters being diverse - it's a chain - they all look the same and serve the same food - and the female staff all have to conform to the same prototype - it's about as diverse as McDonalds

kaitlinktm · 30/04/2018 19:25

I thought it was an owl sanctuary.

Oh thank god ladies - the men have arrived to explain the many ways we are wrong - seems Hooters is Schrodinger's very own restaurant both totally not sexist and a place 'every man can let off steam'

well that's clear then

MillicentF · 30/04/2018 19:28

What’s diverse about it?

Remote1candles · 30/04/2018 19:31

I hadn't heard of Hooters until I watched an episode of Undercover Boss, where the MD of Hooters worked undercover in some of the restaurants. At the end he sacked a waitress because she had chosen to wear a T shirt rather than a bikini top and admitted that she didn't like being objectified. He then paid for another waitress to have a boob job, as she did enjoy working there.

Not convinced this is somewhere I would want to go or be that keen on my husband doing so. I've not issue with them existing - no issue with strip clubs existing either, but again not somewhere I would choose to go or be terribly happy if my daughter wanted to work there.

Helmetbymidnight · 30/04/2018 19:32

Ah well if the chicken wings are good...

Theshittyendofthestick · 30/04/2018 19:33

This thread has made me despair.
Hooters is a tacky, sexist, out-dated, objectifying, sexist shit hole. Men 'letting off steam'? Jesus fucking wept Angry

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 30/04/2018 19:33

Oh look, beerbellybaz, HomebrewDave has suddenly arrived from absolutely nowhere to support your diverse views.

Lol. Lol. etc.
