Would you be pissed off if your partner went to one of these sleazy places? Am I overreacting to be pissed off about dh going to one when he knew I'd be cross about it ? I'm not hopping mad but I'm certainly very unimpressed!

The result is that many waitresses working in breastaurants have reported experiencing feelings of depression, anxiety, anger, and a sense of degradation. They often feel constant pressure to maintain the beauty standards set by their company.

Bloody hell, MillicentF, that's both entirely grim and entirely unsurprising.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/04/2018 18:05

That beer cheese pretzels looks nice!

I don't know how I feel about this really. If one of a couple is unhappy about it then it would be kinder to be sensitive to their feelings. I wouldn't mind if my husband went, with or without me.

I just want to know... WHO books THE hotel-that's-right-near-Hooters... and how long did they have to book it in advance? Wink

Limoncell0 · 30/04/2018 18:07

Grin - are you telling us that at the age of 56, hot pants and tight vests are your choice "peak season" outfit?
When is "peak season" please, just so we are forewarned and can keep the DHs indoors?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/04/2018 18:09

Oh. I didn't see the 'job criteria'. That is a bit grim.

I have my reference point as the old-style Bunny Girl places where women were not degraded and were a popular club for men and women to go to.

Flopsymopsycottontailbuns · 30/04/2018 18:10

I didn't even know it existed any more? All the ones by us have closed. Are you SURE it's a Hooters?! Not code for something else ;)

Kursk · 30/04/2018 18:12

Ticketsfrom

DH has been to them normally when traveling for work. He goes because the food is reliable, and it’s normally close to the hotel.

Meh, I would rather he went there, that some roach coach and got food poisoning again.

Certainly in some parts of the US he has visited. Its Hooters, or Buffalo Wild Wings.

Of you stay in the hotel and play take out roulette, where you see if the non English speaking person on the phone sends you anything close to your order.

Tragicboozyflaccidclown · 30/04/2018 18:13

Hooters sounds tragic, is it eternally the 70s in there?

WorraLiberty · 30/04/2018 18:15

grinandtonics .... lala - tolerance and acceptance of other people's choices comes with age too. I'm 56 so have long since given up trying to control other people. Very liberating.

How strange, given that just last week you were 50 but 'apparently look 38'.

Have you seen a doctor about this rapid ageing problem?

Pfftlife · 30/04/2018 18:18

Ask him to bring you back a hooters tshirt to wear when you're making the dinner

theaveragewife · 30/04/2018 18:21

It's weird because threads like this come up at least twice a year and I always think the same as noble, wonder if they're continually testing the market to see if the attempted takeover of feminism by pro-prostitution circles has worked

theaveragewife · 30/04/2018 18:23

Why the fuck would he go to Hooters when there is a BWW nearby????? (anger not aimed at you, I just love that place)

AgathaMystery · 30/04/2018 18:26

My best friend was the training manager for Hooters for many many years.

The waitresses are not waitresses. They are employed as models and as such are subject to entirely different employment laws. I've heard some very interesting tales.

She now works for another breastaurant.

ghostyslovesheets · 30/04/2018 18:26

I agree theaveragewife - thankfully it seems, on the whole, not to have worked fully!

imweirdandcool · 30/04/2018 18:29

why is it sleazy because beautiful girls work there?

theaveragewife · 30/04/2018 18:30

No dude, no.

imweirdandcool · 30/04/2018 18:31

agatha spill the tea

Elendon · 30/04/2018 18:32

OP I think your partner should ask himself this question.

Would Harvey Weinstein go to Hooters? If he thinks the answer is yes then he should re think his actions. If he says no he's delusional.

Either way he can't win. But if he's contemplating going there he's already put himself into the idiot category of men.

Helmetbymidnight · 30/04/2018 18:33

Good old fashioned nastiness and intolerant judgement in one fell swoop

Grin

For saying it's a restaurant for morons?

Blimey you really do love Hooters.

Gilead · 30/04/2018 18:33

#everdaysexism. Alive and well and supported by women.

acornsandnuts · 30/04/2018 18:34

My MIL thought I was unreasonable for asking her NOT to buy cropped t shirts from hooters for my dds aged 12 and 8.

JamesBlonde1 · 30/04/2018 18:35

If that’s their uniform, perhaps they need to turn the heating down.

Most restaurants expect the staff to cover up. Why are they different and why do they want the staff to wear flesh showing clothing?

What are the stories Agatha - we’re all interested now.

imweirdandcool · 30/04/2018 18:37

I used to work as admin for an electric company which was by a building place where loads of builders brought supply let me tell nearly everyday in the summer I would get some sort of perverted comment or whistle or they would stop talking and stare if I walked pass.

You can experience this type of crap anywhere not just a place like Hooters the women there are probably more protected as my boss said to me just to take it on the chin or entertain it to sell electrical supplies

FASH84 · 30/04/2018 18:37

It's sleazy , sexist and grim. It objectifies women and gives a message that women ought to look a certain way, they don't have male equivalent uniforms and the women have no option uniform or in terms of body type, it's not like a woman choosing to wear whatever she wants in a nightclub. I would never go in one and when we walked past one in Mexico I was horrified to see toddler size hooters uniforms in the window for sale. Some of the men we were with wanted to go in for a drink , DH just said he didn't really agree with it and would rather go to another bar, he doesn't care if they get paid more than minimum wage or choose to work there, it teaches women that they are worth more if they look a certain way and wear minimal clothing. (I was super proud at this point, but one of the reasons I married him is because we share beliefs on the world). An older typical east end 'bloke' who was part of our group, who you would assume would be up for it, agreed and said 'the way I see it is I wouldn't want my daughters being taught that it's ok to be judged like that and if it's too good for my girls, it's not right to go in and look at someone else's daughters'. However OP your DH is an adult and can choose where he wants to go. I'm just pleased DH and I see these kinds of things the same way.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/04/2018 18:38

I think knowing Trump loves the place would put any sensible man off going

Hooters were the official caterer for Trump’s inauguration

Apparently Donald was delighted by this 🙄 🤢

JamesBlonde1 · 30/04/2018 18:38

That’s a point. They’re employed as models as opposed to waitresses/waiters, otherwise they’d be breaching sex discrimination laws?
