Would you be pissed off if your partner went to one of these sleazy places? Am I overreacting to be pissed off about dh going to one when he knew I'd be cross about it ? I'm not hopping mad but I'm certainly very unimpressed!

OP posts:
MillicentF · 30/04/2018 17:41

“lots of them In the UK”

All conveniently close to the hotel.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 30/04/2018 17:41

That we vilify women for making CHOICES about how they earn their living?

I've obviously missed this upthread - can you point it out?

gottachangethename1 · 30/04/2018 17:42

Can’t think of anything worse to be honest. No chicken wings are worth the objectification of women , no Matter how bloody good they are Hmm

KnightofWands · 30/04/2018 17:44

This really is not objectification of women at all and some of the outrage is absolute nonesense. If the ladies concerned are reasonably well paid and happy to do it then that's fine. As with all of us, they are making a MINOR concesion to make ends meet and NOBODY IS BEING HARMED AT ALL. If anything its about the exploitation of men if somewhat scantily clad waitresses is the draw for going. Although, as some of the posters have mentioned the food (chicken wings) as the attraction it begs the question as to what the main draw now actually is.

grinandtonics · 30/04/2018 17:44

What outfits would it be acceptable for the waitresses to wear?

Ankle length dirndl skirt?

Slacks

Burka, just to be on the safe side?

Alconleigh · 30/04/2018 17:44

Thanks Frosty. Never seen one. Are they on entertainment estate type places? That's sort of what I'm picturing as it all sounds very lowest common denominator. I avoid those like the plague.

But to the point, point, no, YANBU OP. All very dispiriting. And I'm hot as anything Grin, so there goes that theory 😉

Helmetbymidnight · 30/04/2018 17:45

It's a restaurant for morons.

I would be disappointed if it turned out I'd married a moron.

grinandtonics · 30/04/2018 17:47

Nice Helmet.

Good old fashioned nastiness and intolerant judgement in one fell swoop.

ArcheryAnnie · 30/04/2018 17:47

What outfits would it be acceptable for the waitresses to wear?

How about "whatever the fuck they each wanted to wear, without being dictated to by someone else about wearing clothes specifically designed to objectify them"?

I think it's disingenuous for you to cite burkhas, grinandtonics. If women want to wear short-shorts, or indeed burkhas, and it's a free choice, it's up to them. But it isn't really a free choice for any woman, is it? Whatever our culture, we are surrounded by societal messages shouting at us that we are too covered up/not revealing enough, or too dowdy/too sexy, etc etc etc.

DuchyDuke · 30/04/2018 17:49

The Hooters waitresses wore more clothes than most of the female customers in Tenerife. It’s like TGI Fridays but better food and service.

lalalaloopy · 30/04/2018 17:50

In my vast and long experience of life, beautiful women rarely care about " their" men looking at other beautiful women....

In my vast experience people who often think they are terribly attractive are not actually. They tend to have an inflated sense of self but good for them. I did some modelling when younger & some of the girls were so insecure. Confidence tends to come with age & life experience.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 30/04/2018 17:50

My girls go clubbing in little more than hot pants and bras. They still agree with me that objectification is grim. Hooters sounds like a bar for losers to me.

There are millions of bars where the women can wear what they like.

So I assume that those who CHOOSE to work at Hooters are perfectly happy to wear the outfit?

Or are women only allowed to CHOOSE what to wear as long as Other Women deem the outfit acceptable?

Frosty66612 · 30/04/2018 17:50

@alconleigh I’ve only ever seen the Nottingham one and that’s just on a main road (2 mins from the station haha). Just looks like a Wetherspoons type place

Mistressiggi · 30/04/2018 17:53

Wanna know a fun fact about Hooters Girls? They can't believe they actually get paid to have such a good time
Thus says their website.
I don't think it's accurate to say they have branches all over the UK, I can't see any in Scotland, Wales or NI. I'd have a 5 hour drive to the nearest one, and since I can get sexism and stereotyping a whole lot closer to home I don't think I'll bother.

grinandtonics · 30/04/2018 17:53

lala - tolerance and acceptance of other people's choices comes with age too. I'm 56 so have long since given up trying to control other people. Very liberating.

Oh, and not being a controlling wife.
If this was a man not wanting his " woman" going into a certain bar in case she looked at hot young men, there'd be bloody uproar.

noblegiraffe · 30/04/2018 17:53

This thread is weird. It reads like an advert for Hooters (Great for families! Chicken wings!) and not really the response I’d expect from MN Confused

As far as I can tell, there’s only one in the UK, two others opened and closed down pretty quickly. So not that popular.

ArcheryAnnie · 30/04/2018 17:53

So I assume that those who CHOOSE to work at Hooters are perfectly happy to wear the outfit?

I have CHOSEN to work at all kinds of shitty jobs at various point in my life. That's if you equate CHOSEN with NEEDED A JOB HOWEVER SHITTY. Hope that helps.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 30/04/2018 17:54

they are making a MINOR concesion to make ends meet and NOBODY IS BEING HARMED AT ALL

Yes. It's not like there is any issue whatsoever with inequality and relentless objectification of women that generation after generation is being forced to battle is there. Oh hang on.

Grin, you sound increasingly uninformed on the issues raised, to be honest.

Frosty66612 · 30/04/2018 17:56

I remember there was a barbers near Glasgow where the hairdressers were all topless (think it was the late 90s) and they were wanting to open them all across the country. Thankfully it got shut down after a couple of years.

How to become a Hooters girl

Note in particular the sections pointing out that 75% of the clientele are men, the disclaimer you have to sign saying that you understand that sexual innuendo is part of the gig, and the section talking about how to deal with the psychological toll constant lewd comments and harassment along with pressure to maintain the required beauty standard can take.

Ticketsfrom · 30/04/2018 17:59

'DH has been to them normally when traveling for work. He goes because the food is reliable, and it’s normally close to the hotel.'

Ahahahahahahahaha! Of course that's why he goes and not to the mexican place or the sports bar where the servers don't have their baps out!
Hooters is just as it sounds and full of college boys, drunken over excited tourists, sleazy business men and a few women who don't realise the post-modern ironic women-in-strips-clubs days are long gone and that these places are part of the reason women are earning 20% less than men in the workplace and not taken seriously.
