To think she's too old for this?

My MIL is 66, and I just don’t think shes dressing for her age. She has this obsession of staying “young”, hates being called gran and told my DC off for calling her that. She thinks gran is “too old” and wants to be called Nan instead. She wears really short dresses during the summer and at Christmas parties, the dresses literally just cover her bum and if she bends over you will be able to see it, not only that but her boobs are hanging out. Today she came round in black leggings/tights (I could see her knickers, they were like blackish see through) a pink hoodie with holes and brown ugg boots.

AIBU to think she should just embrace her age and be happy? I’ve met her younger sister, couple years younger than MIL and they’re worlds apart.

If she’s happy, leave her alone.

It doesn't sound particularly attractive or elegant, but I also don't see why anyone should feel they have to 'age gracefully'. Life is too short and she might see clothes as a way of expressing her personality.

Im 81 and prefer the term nan as i dont like the word gran its too harsh and yes old sounding, but i agree with you if shes dressing like a teenager then she is being a bit daft, i wear tee shirts and jeans and my short short dresses from my younger days stay in the wardrobe as 90s vintage lol, but at the end of the day its her choice what shes wears and shes not hurting anyone

It’s not very nice to slate her for what she likes to wear but why don’t you go shopping together - she might have lost her way a bit.

I think Nan sounds older but my babies nan chose to use it for the same reason and that's fine with me. You sound horrible. Of course she should wear whatever the fuck she wants.

She has embraced her age and is happy. Let her be.

Considering her age group was be of the first to wear really short dresses during the 60s I don't really see how you can say she's not dressing her age.
