“Transgender activists have contacted Mumsnet advertisers and said they will be organising a boycott of their products if they don’t remove their advertising from Mumsnet,” Roberts said.

“A significant minority of our users feel very strongly about women’s rights and very uneasy [about the proposals]. This is an issue that needs to be discussed and that’s why we’re prepared to take any potential advertising hit.”

@AnarchyKitty, there is a thread to help with writing a letter to your MP here.

PoopMaster · 15/04/2018 08:14

Thank you for this Thanks

Foxglovesandprimroses · 15/04/2018 08:14

Thank you Justine and Mumsnet Flowers

Manyfridays · 15/04/2018 08:16

I will boycott any advertiser that pulls out of MN due to trans extremist pressure. Brands that are complicit in bullying women into silence will not get my custom. "

SAME HERE!

The statment is not perfect but its a bloody lot better than ANY political party is doing at the moment !

TerfsUp · 15/04/2018 08:16

YANBU.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/04/2018 08:17

Not sure what 'significant minority means', but pleased to read this.

BertrandRussell · 15/04/2018 08:17

“Basically, not many people have noticed, and the topic is still there for those who want to use . Win-win really,“

I honestly think it’s only a win-win if you think that feminism is a niche subject of little relevance to most women, or you think that trans issues are the only thing feminism currently should be addressing.

TerfsUp · 15/04/2018 08:17

Flowers Mumnet

"I will boycott any advertiser that pulls out of MN due to trans extremist pressure. Brands that are complicit in bullying women into silence will not get my custom"

Absolutely this. Thank you for standing up to this bullying behaviour. You are awesome Justine 😍

Sunseed · 15/04/2018 08:20

Thank you Justine!

Reposting the petition posted upthread: "Consult with women on proposals to enshrine 'gender identity' in law"

It's just a handful of signatures away from the 10,000 required to get parliament to respond to the petition.

ShackUp · 15/04/2018 08:22

Justine, would it be possible to let us know when/if an advertiser pulls out due to pressure from TRAs? Because, at that point, I will boycott that company.

Thank you Thanks

AndHarry · 15/04/2018 08:22

Yep, good for MNHQ Flowers

mrsreynolds · 15/04/2018 08:23

I think youll find it's a significant majority justine!!

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 15/04/2018 08:27

Thanks Justine, for standing up to the misogynistic bullies.

Now, please allow Feminist Chat to show in active conversations again. Otherwise it's not really free speech!

LaChatte · 15/04/2018 08:28
Brew I suspect it's not a minority either, just many of us are lurkers.
Moxiebelle · 15/04/2018 08:29

With regard to the FWR boards ing muted theres nothing to stop people posting threads about these issues on AIBU or chat if they want a wider audience.

cosytoaster · 15/04/2018 08:29

I also think it is more than a minority, I often read trans threads and agree with concerns but have never commented.

Me too.

FeministBadger · 15/04/2018 08:30

Fantastic - thank you Justine.

I'm sure there are a significant minority of GC posters who are contributing to posts, but there are also a significant number of lurkers who continue to read and absorb.

I spent months browsing MN on and off before feeling I could get involved which is why I feel it's particularly sad that the feminist section has been muted from active as it opened my eyes to topics I'd never considered before and gave me language I didn't know I needed.

SophoclesTheFox · 15/04/2018 08:30

Thank you and well done Justine.

I could nit pick about the content, but actually I think it's more important that I applaud the sentiment and the direction of travel.

Brave work. I hope you don't get too much of a backlash.

BastardGoDarkly · 15/04/2018 08:30

Signed Darth

Passing it on.....

Really appreciate this Flowers

Bifflepants · 15/04/2018 08:31

Thank you Justine. Mumsnet was instrumental in raising my awareness of this issue.

TerfsUp · 15/04/2018 08:31

I, too, would like to know which company pull their advertising on the basis of TRA pressure tactics.
