“Transgender activists have contacted Mumsnet advertisers and said they will be organising a boycott of their products if they don’t remove their advertising from Mumsnet,” Roberts said.

“A significant minority of our users feel very strongly about women’s rights and very uneasy [about the proposals]. This is an issue that needs to be discussed and that’s why we’re prepared to take any potential advertising hit.”

I'm glad Justine has come out and said that they won't be bullied. It's a real line in the sand that they can't really cross now even if they have a change of heart and it's a bit commitment.

TheCraicDealer · 15/04/2018 01:03

Thanks MN HQ Wine

Now, if we can get that little "member since-" status on usernames we'd be able to spot people rocking up to stir shit and deliberately not engage with them. That would be the easiest way to ensure that this doesn't turn into a target for TRAs or just trolls generally.

PositivelyPERF · 15/04/2018 01:04

To be fair, AornisHades, the advertisers don’t appear to have threatened to pull out, but have merely told Mumsnet that they have been put under pressure from TRA groups. I would imagine advertisers that promote their products on Mumsnet are aware of their target audience, mainly females and mums. TRA groups boycotting them isn’t going to have as big an impact as the many members who read and quietly agree with the self Id concerns, but don’t comment.

Notcontent · 15/04/2018 01:05

Well done Mumsnet. I think this is an issue that needs to be discussed.

AngeloMysterioso · 15/04/2018 01:05

Thank you Justine and MNHQ!

hipsterfun · 15/04/2018 01:06

I suspect it may be a significant majority rather than a minority that feel strongly about women's rights, but until all women can speak freely with no fear of repercussions we'll never know.

Quite. I can’t speak freely at work about this. I can here, though.

Thanks, Justine and MNHQ.

hazeyjane · 15/04/2018 01:07

Thankyou.

TanteRose · 15/04/2018 01:08

Justine 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 15/04/2018 01:09

So appreciated.

TheXXFactor · 15/04/2018 01:10

I will boycott any advertiser that pulls out of MN due to trans extremist pressure. Brands that are complicit in bullying women into silence will not get my custom.

It is only women who are being silenced. Where are the men being threatened with murder, or punched in the face for stating gender critical views? This extreme trans activism is a direct attack on women's rights and on free speech - it must not be allowed to win.

Thank you Justine and all at MNHQ for standing with women Flowers

PositivelyPERF · 15/04/2018 01:10

I must admit I sometimes get angry and have posted things that I know were perhaps deemed as inappropriate, so I will try to curb my language in future. though I still won’t pretend people can change sex

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/04/2018 01:11

Thank you Justine and MNHQ. Thank you Andrew Gilligan and thanks also to Janice Turner who has another superb article in The Times about transactivism.

BiologyNotBigotry · 15/04/2018 01:11

Thanks so much, Justine! I don't have an ad blocker to turn off but is there any other way I can show support? Does clicking on links even if I don't buy anything help?! Grin

GretchenFranklin · 15/04/2018 01:12

Yes thanks so much Justine/MN.

MadMags · 15/04/2018 01:12

@JustineMumsnet well bloody done. Turning off my ad blocker.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 15/04/2018 01:13

Yes! So happy they aren't caving in to the thought police

Whatthefoxgoingon · 15/04/2018 01:13

I’m with you on the boycott xxfactor.

Thanks for hearing us Justine.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 15/04/2018 01:14

Hopefully more & more businesses will follow suit and, when free speech is allowed, it will become obvious that it's a significant MAJORITY of people who are concerned about this.

glenthebattleostrich · 15/04/2018 01:14

Is it worth those of us who feel strongly about this writing to advertiser's to say if they pull advertising they'll be boycotted by us? And there are a hell of a lot more women?!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 15/04/2018 01:14

"I will boycott any advertiser that pulls out of MN due to trans extremist pressure. Brands that are complicit in bullying women into silence will not get my custom. "

SAME HERE!

CunningOperative · 15/04/2018 01:16

YANBU! Thank you Justine and thank you MNHQ Flowers

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 15/04/2018 01:16

Brands that are complicit in bullying women into silence will not get my custom

Summed it up perfectly.

73kittycat73 · 15/04/2018 01:16

Yay, thank you Justine and Mumsnet! Free speech all the way!

GnotherGnu · 15/04/2018 01:17

I can't see advertisers regarding this as anything in the nature of a serious threat.
