“Transgender activists have contacted Mumsnet advertisers and said they will be organising a boycott of their products if they don’t remove their advertising from Mumsnet,” Roberts said.

“A significant minority of our users feel very strongly about women’s rights and very uneasy [about the proposals]. This is an issue that needs to be discussed and that’s why we’re prepared to take any potential advertising hit.”

Bloody hell. That was gutsy Justine. Well done Flowers

londonrach · 15/04/2018 06:52

Mnhq well done. Can we have a list of all the companies to stop advertising please as i dont want to support any company who responds to bullying.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/04/2018 06:54

Thank you, Justine.

Lefty99 · 15/04/2018 06:58

Amazing thank you Justine Flowers Flowers Flowers

A list won't be needed - the TRAs will soon be crowing about it if an advertiser pulls out. So we'll hear about it and can act accordingly.

Thank you Justine. Free speech is important. I have no issue with trans people, only with the small number of TRAs who aim to erode women's and children's rights and attack feminists who question this.

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/04/2018 07:02

👏👏👏 Thank you Justine. You are awesome. Halo

@fuzzyduck1
No no please do not put trans rights activists in the same boat as lesbians and gays. Lesbians are being pressured into sleeping with transwomen and being called terms for not doing so, some TRA’s proclaim they wish lesbians to die. Some young lesbians are complying.

c75kp0r · 15/04/2018 07:02

I do think tgere are a few posters with extremeviews, but yes free speech is so important. Thank you Justine.

Good point. Some views will offend some people, no matter how carefully put, but if people don't set out to upset and offend transpeople, that will help Mumsnet to stand firm against those who are trying to stifle awareness and debate.

FeistyColl · 15/04/2018 07:03

Thank you Justine . It takes guts to put your head above the parapet.

The right to debate and exchange opinions is vital. Threats and bullying are destructive and cowardly.

BonjourMinou · 15/04/2018 07:10

Thank you Justine, for your commitment to free speech. I will also boycott any advertisers who pull out due to bullying from TRAs.

ImListening · 15/04/2018 07:10

Thank you thank you thank you Star

I want to protect my dds & every females rights to free speech.

peanut2017 · 15/04/2018 07:13

Good to see this as from memory Mumsnet had a conference on women's issues and had transgender speakers at it despite people's concerns.

Proud of so many women on here who have opened my eyes and educated me on so many things 😊

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 15/04/2018 07:14

Thank you Justine and MNHQ.

I posted this on another thread:

If any Mumsnet advertisers are reading this - I am going to quadruple my spending on products advertised on Mumsnet, and throw recommendations and five star reviews around like confetti as long as you continue to support this wonderful, important, sweary place.

Another thank you MNHQ for ensuring that women's voices can be heard.
This needs open and respectful discussion - we live in a democracy. Any changes that remove hard won rights for women - or any group - must be subject to open debate and not shut down.

Thank you Justine and Mumsnet Flowers

Is there any way of finding out which brands have been approached by the TRA thought police but are continuing to advertise on MN so we can actively support them?

CosmicCanary · 15/04/2018 07:24

Well done Justine Flowers

borntobequiet · 15/04/2018 07:26

Well done Justine, Mumsnet and Andrew Gilligan (byline). And thanks and good wishes to the trans people who stand with women and post on here, they are brave in a very special way.

RogerAllamsFangirl · 15/04/2018 07:27

Brava

I will boycott any advertiser that pulls out of MN due to trans extremist pressure. Brands that are complicit in bullying women into silence will not get my custom.

Me too.

Lemonjello · 15/04/2018 07:29
