“Transgender activists have contacted Mumsnet advertisers and said they will be organising a boycott of their products if they don’t remove their advertising from Mumsnet,” Roberts said.

“A significant minority of our users feel very strongly about women’s rights and very uneasy [about the proposals]. This is an issue that needs to be discussed and that’s why we’re prepared to take any potential advertising hit.”

@TeisanLap perhaps a lot of posters do ignore the trans threads, but at least they have the ability to make and contribute to discussions still if they choose.

PizzaPower · 15/04/2018 03:59

Part of Justine’s quote was: ”we ban anyone that’s persistently mean”. Isn’t that usually the pro-trans posters?!?
Seriously though another adding my cheers for her stance on behalf of myself and my DW.

Great article, well done Justine, but also the author of the article, because defending free speech is not so easy nowadays.

I'm also boycott, if necessary, any company that removes its advertising because of TRA pressure.

differentnameforthis · 15/04/2018 04:07

Are they going to "unhide" the feminist section now, too?

Bumpitybumper · 15/04/2018 04:46

Well done Justine Star A brave stance to take in the current climate, but standing up to the bullies is so important. Trying to silence debate on a forum that values free speech and supports women is disgusting. I certainly will be looking to boycott any advertiser's products who have bowed to these bullying tactics from TRAs and pulled their ads from MN. It would be great if such a list could be made public.

FlaviaAlbia · 15/04/2018 04:56

Flowers thank you Justine and MNHQmit really is appreciated that you made a stand so publically Star

Staying · 15/04/2018 05:02

This is brilliant. Well done Justine. I'll also not be buying from - or recommending products from - companies that don't support free speech.

BigGreenOlives · 15/04/2018 05:16

Maybe we should click through on ads to show support - i presume they can tell where the traffic has come from.

TerfinUSA · 15/04/2018 05:21

I don't think it's regarded as desirable to click on ads for the sake of it. That can damage a site's status with advertisers, as the advertisers can measure which clicks are actually valuable.

Springnowplease · 15/04/2018 05:36

Thank you, Justine.

mathanxiety · 15/04/2018 05:37

Well done and thank you.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 15/04/2018 05:43

From what I've read on here, plus comments on news stories and on Twitter, more and more people are waking up to what Self ID really means. The fact that TRAs are trying to get rid of Mumsnet must mean we're doing something right.

Well done Justine!

fuzzyduck1 · 15/04/2018 05:51

I think the whole trans gay lesbian thing is getting out of control.
If they do boycott some products would it be such a loss to them firms anyway?
They were calling for a boycott of a cruise company that stopped same sex marriages on some of there ships last month. It turns out that the country the ships are registered in has banned the marriages so wtf has that got to do with the company?
Just feels like they want to be more equal than the rest of us.

Live and let live is what I say

CaoNiMa · 15/04/2018 06:12

"the whole trans gay lesbian thing"

This isn't a thing though.

Gay/lesbian rights is a different kettle of fish.

IdentifiesAsMiddleAged · 15/04/2018 06:19

Thank you Justine

womanformallyknownaswoman · 15/04/2018 06:27

So pleased she's spoken out - such a relief - thank you.

I hope the thought policing stops now.

ad blocker removed ….

I have advised all I know - women are 51% of population and make 80% of all consumer purchasing decisions. Trans are around 1% and TRAs even smaller percentage. There's 12m women on MN.

As a supermarket or corporate - who would you want on your side??? Mail all large supermarkets, advertisers on here etc and tell them to do the maths… every mail counts

womanformallyknownaswoman · 15/04/2018 06:32

And mention it at Customer Service of any large store when you next go shopping - ask them to feed it back to their HQ - tell them women collectively have a lot of purchasing power and we will use it if they allow TRAs to silence legitimate dissent and discussion

TRAs are thugs using mob tactics to stop discussion about keeping the safeguarding we and our children need and that is already in law. We want to keep what we have - what's so wrong with that?

If any advertisers are bullied into withdrawing ads I suggest we boycott their products. There are more of us - advertisers need to think about that.

therealposieparker · 15/04/2018 06:41

Thank you Justine ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Mogleflop · 15/04/2018 06:43

That is incredibly brave, she knows exactly what she's letting herself in for too. Good luck Justine Thanks
