“Transgender activists have contacted Mumsnet advertisers and said they will be organising a boycott of their products if they don’t remove their advertising from Mumsnet,” Roberts said.

“A significant minority of our users feel very strongly about women’s rights and very uneasy [about the proposals]. This is an issue that needs to be discussed and that’s why we’re prepared to take any potential advertising hit.”

Thank you Mumsnet.

Without all of you and the site's policy of allowing women to speak, then I would have had a much harder time leaving my AGP, and will soon be transitioning STBXH.

In a crazy world where I am told by him, by our marriage councillor, by the newspapers daily, that I am a crazy bigot for not being more understanding about his secret sexy life, his aggressive behaviour. That I should be less vanilla, "go shopping with him", ignore his online sex chat, be more submissive, be nice, and be understanding about his behaviour, even when he's being abusive, because he can't help it, he's so oppressed.

Honestly this site has been a lifeline for me.

Thank you MN.

SianRunner · 16/04/2018 19:29

birdbandit Some counsellors will always do more harm than good because they are trained to be trendy.

womanhuman · 16/04/2018 19:39

Bird Flowers

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 16/04/2018 19:45

To be completely fair

Any transphobic comments are generally (depending on your definition of transphobic) deleted

So they aren't going to find any

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 16/04/2018 19:47

bird

It must be a complete mindfuck

Thanks
birdbandit · 16/04/2018 19:54

It's just bloody marvellous that this wonderful site exists where women can tell the difference between being "transphobic" and talking about my being abused by someone who identifies as trans.

Not easy in RL!

Honestly, you think Clark Kent had an implausible disguise? (Socialised) male entitlement and aggressive behaviour vanish to the eye, if my STBXH is wearing the costume of "woman".

NATALT, caveat, I'm just talking about my experience.

ReluctantCamper · 16/04/2018 19:55

Flowers bird. I lurk on the transwidows thread because I don't feel have anything to add, but you always have my sympathy.

ReluctantCamper · 16/04/2018 19:59

ha! just watched the clip of Owen Jones storming off the set of sky news. What a twit. To be fair, JHB didn't do anything amazing, she just didn't bow down before his 'LGBT voice' and listen is awed admiration. He is a genuine, old school misogynist.

To quote one of the comedy geniuses that frequent this site: Owen Jones, 3 inches high and made of plasticine like and aggressively sanctimonious Morph

OlennasWimple · 16/04/2018 20:14

I also just watched the Sky News clip - OJ is clearly upset by what has happened, but behaved like a petulant teenager.

The two things that jumped out at me, in light of recent events, is that JH-B said that same thing there as on the radio yesterday, that she will choose the language that she wants to use: this is important. And also that OJ was defending LGBT people having their own space to relax, socialise and enjoy each others' company....and yet he wants to deny women that same ability?

jnfrrss · 16/04/2018 20:21

Yabu in linking to a Murdoch paper that will only show the content when you subscribe.

Is this all about a deal and affiliate links with news international?

ElfrideSwancourt · 16/04/2018 20:27

I met someone recently who had worked with Owen Jones, and they confirmed that yes, he is a misogynistic twat.

ReluctantCamper · 16/04/2018 20:29

jnfrrss, yes you've got us. This whole self ID nonsense thing has just been cooked up to get people to subscribe to the Times.

You can come out from behind the sofa Rupert, jnfrrss has figured it all out - the jog is up.

ReluctantCamper · 16/04/2018 20:31

well the difference OlennasWimple, as you know if you'd been paying attention is that women aren't people.

once you know that 52% of the population don't have feelings and views you need to take into account unless they agree with you you, life gets a lot easier eh Owen?

underneaththeash · 16/04/2018 20:35

Well done mumsnet

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 16/04/2018 20:48

I should be less vanilla

I'm hearing this word 'vanilla' a lot at the moment. It seems to mean any intimate situation in which a woman isn't being frightened or harmed.

Flowers birdbandit. Can you sack the marriage counsellor?

OlennasWimple · 16/04/2018 20:51

Ah, of course ReluctantCamper. Silly me

PositivelyPERF · 16/04/2018 21:03

Is this all about a deal and affiliate links with news international

WTF? Have you bloody vipers been keeping this from me? How does it work? Shares? A bonus? Bribery? 😲 Don’t tell me it’s blackmail?!

😁

birdsdestiny · 16/04/2018 21:17

Sorry, you don't get to find out till you have paid the gin tax.

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 16/04/2018 21:17

Another vote from a long time lurker but only occasional poster to thank Justine and the whole of mumsnet for the intelligent and challengng and important discussions that happen here. These are women's voices, our voices, in the majority and I can't think of any other forum online or off where that's the case. I think that Justine's stance - that this discussion can and will be had and that women will be heard - is so important.

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 16/04/2018 21:19

online or offline, not on or off.

(Justine while you're reading (!) a five minute "I just typed crap1" edit window, by any chance??)

jnfrrss · 16/04/2018 21:24

The topic maybe real, but MN is a business that's out to make money and would of course do a deal with the Murdoch press. You can't even read the article without signing up for the times.

Still it's better than doing deals with cadburys I guess.

birdbandit · 16/04/2018 21:27

@TallulahWaitingInTheRain I did, and hired a lawyer.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 16/04/2018 21:48

I did, and hired a lawyer

HairyBallTheorem · 16/04/2018 21:51

"I did, and hired a lawyer" - high five, Bird

HereComesTheSun2 · 16/04/2018 22:02

You can't even read the article without signing up for the times.

The link was initially available to all, as it has a share token in the URL. I've never seen this before but I'm presuming that because so many people have clicked on the link, it has surpassed the number of people an individual subscriber can share an article with.
