Open access link. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/mumsnet-founder-justine-roberts-transgender-activists-try-to-curb-free-speech-on-site-z3sr3nf6q?shareToken=ade388be59ac427155003eff83c5158c

“Transgender activists have contacted Mumsnet advertisers and said they will be organising a boycott of their products if they don’t remove their advertising from Mumsnet,” Roberts said.

“A significant minority of our users feel very strongly about women’s rights and very uneasy [about the proposals]. This is an issue that needs to be discussed and that’s why we’re prepared to take any potential advertising hit.”

FlatArpeggio · 15/04/2018 13:30

MNHQ please do name and shame any advertisers who pull out over this issue so we can steer clear of giving them our custom Smile

Trumpdump · 15/04/2018 13:31

Thanks Justine! Smile

Thank you HQ Gin Wine Tardis

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 15/04/2018 13:32

Thanks Justine!
I’ve had a difficult week because of my gender critical views (career wise) and I was frightened for a time.
If you’re sticking your neck out like this then I’m sticking around.

I am sick of women being silenced.
I am sick of lesbian and bi women being told to accept penis.
I am sick of the issues surrounding intersex people being co-opted by activists.
I am sick of the issues surrounding infertile women being used by activists.
I am sick of menopause or hysterectomy as an excuse to say “but not all women...”
I am sick of women with PCOS being used to prove a trans agenda.
I am sick of poor Latin.
I am sick of prefixes.
I am sick of poor medical knowledge being bandied around as fact on twitter.
I am sick of being told how to be a woman.
I am sick of being told to shut up.

I’m the main buying power of a family of 8 plus a whole host of animals, I will support advertisers who do not allow the bullying of women.

Kokeshi123 · 15/04/2018 13:32

An awesome victory for free speech. What a contrast to the sorry news we are hearing daily about Facebook and the like.

I heart Mumsnet!

TyrannosaurusBex · 15/04/2018 13:32

Thanks Justine and Mumsnet.

Kokeshi123 · 15/04/2018 13:34

Can we DONATE to Mumsnet?

Serious question.

birdsdestiny · 15/04/2018 13:42

I was thinking of promising to spend even more time on MN but I sort of need to be a functioning human being as well.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 15/04/2018 13:42

Maybe we need an open letter to MN advertisers from MN users.

TheChampagneGalop · 15/04/2018 13:44

I felt emotional reading that article! Well done Justine, you bravely did the right thing. Women must be allowed to be able to discuss issues that affects us and not be silenced by a few rabid bullies. Flowers Cake Gin

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 15/04/2018 13:45

This is terrific

If I spend more time on here, I'll need to be on here in my sleep, birds! Grin

Arf at "I am sick of poor Latin"

Just one more irritation, eh.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/04/2018 13:49

I realise it isn't really the point, but I wonder how the more extreme TRAs will react to this? From the rolling-over that's done at their every demand it seems they're not a group prepared to accept any pushback at all and they'll hardly be pleased

Who knows, though ... one website, however large, isn't the be-all and end-all of everything, but maybe this really will persuade others to point out that, actually, the TRAs aren't the only ones entitled to a view

FluteLady · 15/04/2018 13:52

I would definitely donate to Mumsnet.

JessicaJonesJacket · 15/04/2018 13:54

Thank you MNHQ and Justine. I think it's incredibly powerful to have a woman taking a public stance against the bullying of advertisers and companies by a small but very vocal minority.
It may even have a positive effect on the next hotel chain the TAs try to bully.
One of the consequences of 'wife work' and a patriarchal society is that most women do make more purchases than men.
Leading gender analysts Catalyst.Org, estimates that, on average, 67% of all UK Household consumption is controlled or influenced by women. And it is much greater in many key household areas eg women make the decision or influence the purchase of 92% of holidays, 65% of cars, 93% of food, 91% of homes. Hopefully Justine's stance will remind companies and advertisers of the buying power women have.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 15/04/2018 13:55

I will boycott any advertiser that pulls out of MN due to trans extremist pressure. Brands that are complicit in bullying women into silence will not get my custom.

I agree 100%. And I'm an impulse-driven compulsive shopper who is very happy to rack up thousands in credit-card debt to buy my way out of various self-inflicted emotional crises - so woe betide any brands who lose my support!

steppemum · 15/04/2018 13:57

thanks mn.
I have found this to be an essential help in a difficult time, as my dd questions her gender. This has been the only place I ahve found th edebate open and honest enough to undertsnad the points of view from all sides.

I can't thank you enough

Hypermice · 15/04/2018 13:58

Justine, and MNHQ I take my hat off to you in this.

BLOODY WELL DONE.

Adblocker off on this site. And any advertiser that caves and removes content directly due to TRA intimidation is an utter coward.

Trebles all round! a good Sunday morning indeed!

And I may actually subscribe to the times ...

Hypermice · 15/04/2018 14:00

Mumsnet. More balls than Millwall.

It’s been a while since I had a slogan T shirt, but this might just be the one....
