Open access link. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/mumsnet-founder-justine-roberts-transgender-activists-try-to-curb-free-speech-on-site-z3sr3nf6q?shareToken=ade388be59ac427155003eff83c5158c

“Transgender activists have contacted Mumsnet advertisers and said they will be organising a boycott of their products if they don’t remove their advertising from Mumsnet,” Roberts said.

“A significant minority of our users feel very strongly about women’s rights and very uneasy [about the proposals]. This is an issue that needs to be discussed and that’s why we’re prepared to take any potential advertising hit.”

Fab news about going back into active threads.

winterinmadeira · 15/04/2018 12:58

That’s great news! Well done for standing up to bullies.

birdsdestiny · 15/04/2018 12:58

Fucking hell, fwr back too. Justine seems to be about as media savy as it's possible to be. Who would of thought it, the inventor of the most popular site for women, actually knows what she's doing 😀.
Sorry for any doubts that were beginning to silently whir in my little brain. Absolutely awesome.

birdsdestiny · 15/04/2018 12:59

Can't even use a MN smiley properlyGrin

FuzzyCustard · 15/04/2018 13:00

Thank you Justine and MN for standing up to the "loud shouters". Definitely awesome.

Justkeepswimmming · 15/04/2018 13:02

Another lurker here. I come on to read the Feminsm threads and have learnt so much. I rarely/never post. But feel the need to add my thanks here. Thank you Flowers

hazeyjane · 15/04/2018 13:06

it's being moved back into Active Conversations tomorrow when our Tech team are back on.

Tip top!

FlorisApple · 15/04/2018 13:07

ThanksCakeThanksCakeThanks
Fantastic! I think the best thing about Justine standing up for free speech and the right to discuss these issues is that it might give a few pointers to the politicians who have so far not spoken up and have been cowered into silence or compliance. Why are they not strongly supporting the right of women to discuss issues and legislation that will affect them? It is really such a moderate position to take. Justine is influential enough to surely make a few politicians think about this issue, and hopefully, show the same courage that she has shown.

writingbymoonlight · 15/04/2018 13:08

Another lurker logging in to say thank you Justine, MNHQ and all the informed and eloquent posters in FWR Flowers

jellycat · 15/04/2018 13:10

Another member of the generally silent ‘minority’ de-lurking to say thank you to Justine and MNHQ - so pleased and relieved that this is being discussed more openly at last. Flowers

Thank you Justine and MNHQ. I can only imagine the sort of flak you are getting over this topic and the overtime created. This place is so important. And it's great that our concerns are finally beginning to be heard.

I expect another influx of goady tras in response to this, but we just have to keep stating our case calmly and rationally. The number of lurkers who have joined this thread alone remind us why (welcome!).

rocketgirl22 · 15/04/2018 13:15

I read this article this morning, and was so relieved that Justine is holding her ground.

THANK YOU Flowers

I sincerely hope you publish any advertisers that DO decide to pull out, as two can play the boycott game, and if the pro trans groups keep bullying their way into forcing our debate to be shut down.

We live in a democracy and can discuss any subject, I find unbelievable in this day and age that we have trans group shutting down debate like this.

They have managed to get discussion meetings cancelled, relocated, and leaning on advertisers to pull the plug on internet forums that discuss trans issues. It is an insidious campaign to silence women on their rights to privacy and protected spaces, we have to fight back.

Robbing our identity, renaming our gender, overtaking our lavatories and private changing spaces is clearly not enough, now they also want to speak for us as well. We are not allowed to speak.

Well we will see about that.

I have an appointment with my MP tomorrow. I suggest you all do the same.

Thank you MN for standing up for our rights to be heard and to be respected.

But am I right in thinking ALL Feminism threads are still banned from Active conversations?

gillybeanz · 15/04/2018 13:16

How do I turn adblocker on, please.
I'm on MacBook Air, if that helps.

glitterbiscuits · 15/04/2018 13:16

Thanks MNHQ

and it's Thank You from them and Thank You from me!Grin

V.well done,Justine and oh! did I say?
Thank You!

CapnHaddock · 15/04/2018 13:16

Huge fistbump to you @DawnMumsnet. That's great news! I might send MNHQ a bottle of gin Grin

Jux · 15/04/2018 13:17

Oh, just read Dawn's comment. Hooray re FWR and Active!

I think SN should remain muted, as they suffered so badly from trolls, long before that word was ever used to describe those sick inadequates anyway, and I'm sure the users would fare even worse these days now trolling is so much more prolific.

Mumsnut · 15/04/2018 13:20

'Here's to civil debate'

Yes indeed Wine

rocketgirl22 · 15/04/2018 13:22

TO ALL ADVERTISERS

It would be a very big mistake to support mothers being silenced and shut down by even considering pulling your adverts from MN from the bullying trans groups.

Show your support and respect for women's rights to express their view by reconfirming your support for a free debate on any issue including trans rights.

Or choose to do nothing, but it would be a severely costly mistake to lose the MN market because the trans groups are bullying.

I am now carefully looking at the adverts Fairy etc, and will be checking.
I have been buying fairy for a mere 35 years. I am watching.

Sarahconnor1 · 15/04/2018 13:23

psychomath im public sector. Not a chance in hell would I discuss this or raise any concerns at work or on any forum where I could be identified

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 15/04/2018 13:23

But am I right in thinking ALL Feminism threads are still banned from Active conversations?

DawnMumsnet has said that will end from tomorrow.

I hope that the Women's Equality Party are looking at this and learning what being pro-woman actually means.

Gingernaut · 15/04/2018 13:25

Thank you @DawnMumsnet!

Thank you MNTech Team!

We love you. We really do.

Where else could we spend hours of our lives examining diagrams in parking wars debating the important issues of the day with like minded people.

I solemnly swear not to rise to trolls
Not to argue with sealions
Not to butt in when I have nothing useful to offer
Never to engage AdBlocker

Cross my heart or swear to flounce.
