Aibu to think Mumsnet has issues with black women

Just that really, I’ve read really horrible comments about Meghan Markle, Alexandra Burke, Serena Williams talented and hardworking individuals who seem to offend some Mumsnetters simply by being beautiful and successful.
I’m not surprised as happens in RL but I guess it’s disappointing as Mumsnet touts itself as a more educated network than netmums

I haven't conducted a careful study of comments made about famous women and then checked to see if there are a disproportionate amount of negative comments made about black women. However, there is still racism in, well, every society afaik and Mumsnet is an enormous community : it would astonishing if there were no prejudiced people on here at all.

I don't know how much education has to do with it, it's perfectly possible to be educated and racist unfortunately.

Yes of course. Like glancing at a woman and smiling is deemed racist by some black women. Like a work meeting to discuss a cock up is potentially racist. Like a complaint against an HCP who has been rude is racism.

Sick and tired to dancing around because any constructive criticism or even compliment is taken the wrong way.

People come in all colours and sizes. Sick of isms being blamed for everything to be honest.

I have seen some absolutely terrible comments about Serena Williams, referring to her as an ape, overloud, manly etc. Think it was one or two posters and mumsnet sorted it.

Are you just conveniently editing out all the white women that have been criticised on here? Because quite frankly if you claim never to have read a negative comment about Katie Hopkins, that’s bullshit. Likewise Katie Price, Kate Middleton...In fact, you could make a more convincing case for MN having issues with women called Kate than you could for your claim.

But please, do provide one quotation to support your argument that the women you cite offend some MNetters “simply by being beautiful and successful” and not for any other reason.

YANBU but that's because society as a whole is racist.

I agree with the poster saying mumsnet has a problem with women too. Some people really can't stand women being visible and have to put them in their place. This is magnified for black women.

I don't know how you can really say that in all honesty when the population of MN must reflect the population of women in UK and other places. Do you know what the black female presence is on MN?
I don't know how you can make such a generalisation, I honestly don't and i feel a bit insulted by that. Are you sweeping me into that category of racist MNer's even though you don't know the first thing about me and my experience as a white, working class, second generation Irish woman with Mental Health and physical challenges?

Hardly comparable? Here is Alexandra Burke’s interview with Hello magazine - just one of the magazines, newspapers and TV shows she has done interviews with. Do you think she does all those for free? Now you’re just being disingenuous. At least try to make your argument credible.
