Aibu to think Mumsnet has issues with black women

Just that really, I’ve read really horrible comments about Meghan Markle, Alexandra Burke, Serena Williams talented and hardworking individuals who seem to offend some Mumsnetters simply by being beautiful and successful.
I’m not surprised as happens in RL but I guess it’s disappointing as Mumsnet touts itself as a more educated network than netmums

OP, where is your evidence for your OP's assertion?

Gemini69 · 14/04/2018 12:58

Eh? I’ve seen plenty of critical comments about white women, Theresa May, Kerry Katona, Katy price are the names that spring to mind

But does it suit you to ignore that?

this ...

biscuitraider · 14/04/2018 12:58

I'm always amazed at both the duchess of Cambridge and Meghan Markle getting called stunningly beautiful. I know every eye forms it's own beauty but they really really aren't. Imagine them both without the long hair and the expensive veneers and fine clothes and they are both very ordinary looking imo. They don't have beautiful features. You see far more beautiful on the high street on any given day of the week.

spontaneousgiventime · 14/04/2018 12:58

Oh for heavens sake. These days no-one can say anything incase there is a permanently offended in the vicinity. People can disagree with anything they like, be it a person, job, personality etc it doesn't mean it's attached to an 'ism.

Dreamscomingtrue · 14/04/2018 12:58

Someone said on a post yesterday about the Royal Wedding that MM was foreign and it seemed that the Op took offence at that comment. I think the person who said she was foreign, was comparing MM with KM, in that KM had been with William for years and knew what was expected of her. Whereas with MM it has been a whirlwind romance and did she realise what she was getting into, the reality of being in the Royal Family.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 14/04/2018 12:59

I dont think MM has any idea what she is up against in that family.
There , does that make me racist?
Stating the bloody obvious?

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 14/04/2018 13:01

Show examples OP or you just sound at best professionally offended, or at worst goady...

findingmyfeet12 · 14/04/2018 13:02

I dislike MM for her "humanitarian" agenda. It's hypocritical and insulting given that she's about to join an institution that's kept in the lap of luxury by hard working people.

I don't think that's racist?

AdiosPeaceOfRoast · 14/04/2018 13:02

I’m sorry @Ghanagirl you’re getting a crappy response here. I don’t doubt there is racism here, as there is sadly across society. I also wouldn’t dare, as a white woman, to tell you you’re wrong, as clearly I would have no clue, as I’m white and thankfully haven’t had to live it myself.

I’m sorry it’s the case though and we don’t all think that way Flowers

lattewith3shotsplease · 14/04/2018 13:03

OP,
You haven't responded to my last post..Hmm

Anyway, I am leaving this thread now as its going no where.

Xenia · 14/04/2018 13:03

In the old days and I mean when Princess Diana married, in my time, you couldn't even marry if you weren't a virgin into that family never mind a divorced non virgin. i don't think colour is the big issue int he UK it is in the USA. It is not so long ago that wearing makeup and being an actress meant you were a lose woman of low morals int he Uk and acting often went with prostitution rather than actors being role models for the young. How things have changed.

AdiosPeaceOfRoast · 14/04/2018 13:03

I also get your distinction between reality stars and accomplished, professional women!

Mightymucks · 14/04/2018 13:04

Yes. Because all the women who married the heir’s spare in the past have had universally good press and been universally adored in the past so any criticism of Markle must be racism.

I mean, just look at Fergie.

TidyDancer · 14/04/2018 13:04

I've not seen you back up your OP with any actual evidence @Ghanagirl. Do you have any?

FWIW I'm mixed race. That should be of no relevance whatsoever but you do seem hell bent on making it relevant.

It's perfectly acceptable to not like someone who is black without making it because they're black. I can't stand Alexandra Burke, but it's fuck all to do with her skin colour.

Tobleronemonster · 14/04/2018 13:04

Haven't read the whole thread, but I really don't agree.

I've seen LOADS of threads on here regarding hatred for x y and z women, but it's 100% never because of the colour of their skin.

Honestly, I think you're wrong. I could be offended if one of those women recieving hate was gay, being in a same sex relationship myself, but I'm not, because that's never the issue and if it was, the thread would be removed very swiftly. Just as it would be if the hatred on a thread, was racially motivated.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 14/04/2018 13:05

Give over. You’re either being very selective or goady.

Itsneversunnyinwales · 14/04/2018 13:06

@ghanagirl do you not realise that by making statements like this you are giving ammunition to actual racists. By trying to find racism and taking offence to everything you’re justifying people who stereotype black women to have a chip on their shoulder, who can now say ‘see, we’re right’

Mightymucks · 14/04/2018 13:06

Agreed fourfriedchicken, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if MM came to some sort of harm...

Ghanagirl · 14/04/2018 13:06

EasterBunBun
You know that you can’t actually tell me what to think

OP posts:
FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 14/04/2018 13:06

nor would i mighty..:(

slithytove · 14/04/2018 13:07

You (presumably) don’t speak for all black women, so why has “you are looking for things to be offended by” been translated by you into “Black women are just looking to be offended”.

In the same vein, how can you speak for the whole of Mumsnet.

Lemontart25 · 14/04/2018 13:08

Sorry to burst your bubble but MM is mixed race!

missbonita · 14/04/2018 13:08

I'm mixed race and my kids have 'black' names. The number of times they are called 'chavy' or 'naughty' names is racist and disgusting. When I complain or remark on it I am categorically told I am wrong.

Flomper · 14/04/2018 13:09

I really don't see this at all, sorry

Marylou2 · 14/04/2018 13:09

I don't agree OP. Too many people seem professionally offended at the moment, looking for problems where there aren't any. Serena Williams, amazing! Diane Abbott useless. Nothing to do with race.
