To be furious about these ‘hot cross buns’

I’m watching what I eat at the moment and managed to resist all the Easter eggs at the supermarket, however I picked up a pack of four hot cross buns resolving to make them my one and only Easter treat. Imagine my fury and disgust to find that they are in fact chocolate chip and salted caramel hot cross buns! - I like chocolate, I like genuine salted caramel and I like hot cross buns. The combination of all those things, especially with the ‘salted caramel’ clearly being a horrible synthetic flavouring, is so disgusting that I’ve had to throw them all away. Except for the one that I ate to be completely sure that it was definitely disgusting.

AIBU?

YANBU. They are not hot cross buns. Thanks

dingit · 30/03/2018 12:26

Yes. They are my favourite, you should have given them to me. Angry

BexleyRae · 30/03/2018 12:27

You are most definitely not being unreasonable.
Salted caramel is awful and has now basically ruined your easter.
I would be in a proper strop if I were you OP, and I'd probably flounce off and stamp my feet

bookmum08 · 30/03/2018 12:27

Supermarkets have had these for a few years now. Not new. Next time just take two seconds to check what you are buying. Or do you just fling things in your trolley without thinking?

ScrumpyBetty · 30/03/2018 12:28

My DH bought these for me! I ate one and enjoyed the salted caramel it but agreed with you- very very sickly

Grenoble124 · 30/03/2018 12:28

Tesco tried to substitute my hot cross buns with berry hot cross buns yesterday. They went straight back. Don't mess with hot cross buns!

pigsDOfly · 30/03/2018 12:30

I narrowly avoided buying something similar in Tesco the other day.

Such abominations should carry a warning in large red writing.

A good hot cross bun is a wonderful thing, they do not need to contain chocolate and other sundry stuff Envy (not envy).

I feel your pain.

TSSDNCOP · 30/03/2018 12:33

Fucking hell. If it LOOKS like a hot cross bun, it bloody well should BE a hot cross bun. Not some gussied up wannabe with NOT HOT CROSS BUN ingredients. Salted bloody caramel has no place masquerading in hot cross bun clothing. I would have been devastated too OP.

LimeIce · 30/03/2018 12:37

Except for the one that I ate to be completely sure that it was definitely disgusting Grin

ChelleDawg2020 · 30/03/2018 12:39

YABU. Hot cross buns are the food of Satan. Anything that improves them, like substituting chocolate, is a good thing.

Anyway, perhaps it will teach you to be more fastidious when checking labels in future.

category12 · 30/03/2018 12:42

You should immediately go and buy some more. What treachery was this?!

LockedOutOfMN · 30/03/2018 12:43

An outrage!!

TheFaerieQueene · 30/03/2018 12:44

Not you are a hot cross hun.
Ha!

(That is the very first and the last time I will use that word😂)

TheFaerieQueene · 30/03/2018 12:44

How obviously not not.

Bluelady · 30/03/2018 12:45

I bought some by mistake too. They're the work of the devil

TheFaerieQueene · 30/03/2018 12:45

Now. I give up with bloody autocorrect

Roscrea0707 · 30/03/2018 12:47

I have to admit to a fondness for the dark chocolate and orange ones Tesco did last year....haven't seen them this year though 😐

Popchyk · 30/03/2018 12:48

YABU to be furious.

You should be incandescent with rage at the very least. Maybe with a bit of utterly incensed on the side.

And you haven't named and shamed the offending supermarket which is another thing that reflects very badly on your character.

angryburd · 30/03/2018 12:48

YABU. Hot cross buns are rotten so anything that can possibly improve them can't be a bad thing.

Lilyargin · 30/03/2018 12:48

Hilarious post Starch

snewsname · 30/03/2018 12:50

I was adventurous and trialled an abomination of a flavour. Never again.
If it walks like a hot cross bun, talks like a hot cross bun, it doesn't always mean it'll taste like one...

MinaPaws · 30/03/2018 12:52

YANBU. They are not HCBs they are pap with a pastry cross on them. Buy some very fruity spicy ones and enjoy them.

Idontevencareanymore · 30/03/2018 12:53

This is why no good can ever come from avoiding chocolate. Hard lesson to learn...

But yanbu. I ordered a pack of hot cross buns. Got subbed with said salted caramel buns. No one was happy(I don't like any)
Then I got caught out in the shop and absent mindedly picked up a finest pack not realising they've messed with them also and ended up with mango and papaya. Sad days again.

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 30/03/2018 12:54

YABU, a true HCBer does not discriminate according to HCB variety!

HCB ( X ) HCB

turnipfarmers · 30/03/2018 12:54

YANBU. Hot Cross Buns have cinnamon and a few other spices and that's it.
