To be furious about these ‘hot cross buns’

I’m watching what I eat at the moment and managed to resist all the Easter eggs at the supermarket, however I picked up a pack of four hot cross buns resolving to make them my one and only Easter treat. Imagine my fury and disgust to find that they are in fact chocolate chip and salted caramel hot cross buns! - I like chocolate, I like genuine salted caramel and I like hot cross buns. The combination of all those things, especially with the ‘salted caramel’ clearly being a horrible synthetic flavouring, is so disgusting that I’ve had to throw them all away. Except for the one that I ate to be completely sure that it was definitely disgusting.

AIBU?

Yes you aer being unreasonable for not reading the packet. Although ultimately it's Jesus Christ's fault fro being crucified in the first place. If only they'd done it to Barrabas instead.

MilfordFound · 30/03/2018 12:58

I bloody love hot cross buns. I haven't tried the new abomination ones though, can't bring myself to do it.
My breakfast every day for at least the past 6 weeks has been hot cross buns with lots of butter and marmite on the top. Lush.

PasDeDeux · 30/03/2018 12:58

Im not a big fan of regular hot cross buns so would actually be very happy to try chocolate chip and salted caramel ones ! Where were they from?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/03/2018 13:00

I've seen some of the packaging. Brown curlicue writing over brown buns. I had no idea there were 3 or 4 different flavours. I could easily have bought the wrong / adulterated version Envy

sexnotgender · 30/03/2018 13:00

YABU. Hot cross buns harbour vile little fruit turds, replacing them with chocolate has to be an improvement.

Loyaultemelie · 30/03/2018 13:01

I don't like hot cross buns but I like the sound of those!

NotACleverName · 30/03/2018 13:03

My thoughts are with you at this difficult time, OP.

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 30/03/2018 13:06

They're from Tesco aren't they? I picked up some on an isle end display the other week, and was horrified to find they were the "very berry" ones that had cherries in. An absolute abomination. I went back to the stand to swap them for "normal" ones - there weren't any! There were all sorts of freaky as fuck combinations like mango and pineapple. Worst thing was the packaging was almost identical for all of them. A casual glance wouldn't have been enough to suggest they were an affront to HCBs. So many people were casually picking them up.

I almost complained but couldn't be arsed.

Queenio24 · 30/03/2018 13:08

I was told there is a raisin/ sultana shortage this year, so that's why there is all the chocolate hot cross buns etc. A bloody abomination if you ask me.

hooliodancer · 30/03/2018 13:10

The only way to get a perfect hot cross bun is to bake your own! It is super easy, especially with a food mixer or processor to do the dough.

However, I bought the caramel and chocolate ones from m and s yesterday. I thought they were lovely, but as a generic bun, not hot cross.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/03/2018 13:11

NerNer those are the ones I saw.

Such a nasty trick to play on people!

Slartybartfast · 30/03/2018 13:17

i resisted the chocolate salted caramel, eew, but chose instead bramley apple, have tried very berry which was found wanting. the bramley unfortunately was burnt by the toaster so might have to have another one, just to be sure.

MacaroniPenguin · 30/03/2018 13:18

My sympathies.

We have had hot cross bun flavour flapjack inflicted on us. Perfectly nice normal raisin flapjack ruined by adding dried peel.

bonnielies0verthe0cean · 30/03/2018 13:19

From M and S? YABVVVVU. They're incredible!

Whatthefunk · 30/03/2018 13:19

I made exactly the same mistake, last week. The previous week I picked up what I thought were raisin Scones, only to find they were bastard choc chip.....it's been a bad month.....

Starchime22 · 30/03/2018 13:21

They are from Tesco, yes. And to think I deliberated so long between some chocolate and those abominations!

As for ‘very berry’ why the FUCK does anything berry flavoured have to be called ‘very berry’ - it’s like the weakest play on words ever yet it’s used over and over again as though it’s incredibly clever!

This whole thing has put me in a really bad mood

HCB (+) HCB

Slartybartfast · 30/03/2018 13:24

yabu, go to Waitrose, far nicer

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 30/03/2018 13:26

The very berry and bramley apple varieties are lovely, especially when spread with lemon curd.

DropZoneOne · 30/03/2018 13:27

YANBU

I made the same mistake - grabbed a packet of HCB from the display piled high with HCB. It was only when I was slicing them that I thought the raisins looked odd before realising they were chocolate chips. I'd have eaten them anyway until I saw salted caramel which I loathe.

At least M&S make their flavoured buns obvious by different coloured packaging. These were just in the clear wrap.

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 30/03/2018 13:28

Nice HCBs arti. although a little deflated

StickyProblem · 30/03/2018 13:29

YANBU to be annoyed but the universe is telling you to Step Away From The HCBs.
Worst things ever for weight control/loss. I have 12lbs to lose to reach target weight and I can't even look at them Sad I walk past and think "See you next year my darlings!"

SlowlyShrinking · 30/03/2018 13:30

Eww! Tesco’s also had pineapple and mango HCBs. What is the world coming to??

reallybadidea · 30/03/2018 13:32

Marmite on hot cross buns Shock WTAF? That's disgusting, I feel sick at the thought.

TimesNewRoman · 30/03/2018 13:37

YABVU they are amazing
