To be furious about these ‘hot cross buns’

I’m watching what I eat at the moment and managed to resist all the Easter eggs at the supermarket, however I picked up a pack of four hot cross buns resolving to make them my one and only Easter treat. Imagine my fury and disgust to find that they are in fact chocolate chip and salted caramel hot cross buns! - I like chocolate, I like genuine salted caramel and I like hot cross buns. The combination of all those things, especially with the ‘salted caramel’ clearly being a horrible synthetic flavouring, is so disgusting that I’ve had to throw them all away. Except for the one that I ate to be completely sure that it was definitely disgusting.

Now I'm worried the M&S salted caramel ones we got might be horrible too!

First world problems Easter Smile

pimlicolife · 31/03/2018 18:57

We got blueberry ones too

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 31/03/2018 19:06

The Sainsbury's mini chocolate chip ones are delicious with custard.

SauvignonBlanche · 31/03/2018 19:14

They went down well in my house pilmicolife, they’d gone before I was forced to try one.

speedynamechange73 · 31/03/2018 19:20

I ended up with spiced pear and something rank 'mince pies' once (user error), so I feel your pain. YANBU.

BusySittingDown · 31/03/2018 19:24

I have tried the dark Belgian Chocolate and fudge ones (Aldi) and Bramley Apple and Cinnamon and Blueberry and Maple Syrup (Tesco) ones. They were all amazing.

The blueberry and maple syrup ones make the house smell incredible when you put them in the toaster so they get extra points for that. I think that the Bramley apple and cinnamon ones are my favourite though. I currently have some Waitrose ones in the cupboard but the Tesco ones are nicer.

BusySittingDown · 31/03/2018 19:25

I got chocolate orange mince pies from Aldi at Christmas. They were delicious.

ihatetosay · 31/03/2018 19:26

i want them they are yummy

LadyofMisrule · 31/03/2018 20:01

Not particularly amusing, but some of the Waitrose ones use broad bean flour. As someone with a potentially fatal broad bean allergy, I was very grateful to a friend who pointed this out.

ArchibaldsDaddy · 31/03/2018 20:21

I think you ought to torch the supermarket...

Daifuku9 · 31/03/2018 20:31

That’s disappointing, and yes, they should make it more obvious using different color labels/packaging. Yuck.

Orangepear · 31/03/2018 20:39

The Tesco ones are vile, they taste so weird and have a horrible aftertaste.

Slartybartfast · 31/03/2018 20:39

Tesco normal hcb, well with a poppy seed topping, are the Bees Knees, far better imo, than their Finest offerings anyway

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 31/03/2018 20:47

I did the EXACT SAME THING WITH THE EXACT SAME HOT CROSS BUNS 😭😭😭

DH, DM and I were fuming. Toasted them and they weren't to bad after that but still it's the principle.

Singadream · 31/03/2018 20:51

Bleurgh. Yanbu

brainstormer123 · 31/03/2018 21:02

Is a HCB just a teacake with a cross added? I mean let's be honest, it is isn't it?

Quietlife1979 · 31/03/2018 21:09

Asda extra special - mother fuckers put butter fudge all the way through it Easter Angry Easter Angry

happypoobum · 31/03/2018 21:33

I made this exact same mistake one year OP.

It was AWFUL Easter Angry

I will get over it one day not yet

3luckystars · 31/03/2018 21:37

One time,
I swear this happened,
one time I bought chocolate and there was POPPING CANDY in it.

Derlei · 31/03/2018 21:42

Oh god I bought the very same ones from Tesco and they were absolutely disgusting, I couldn’t even finish one!! Ghastly

walchesterweasel · 31/03/2018 22:21

Yes Chaos . I saw the chai tea & ginger and the seeded. Imagine getting a mouthful of seeds instead of plump sultanas . What are they thinking? Pineapple and papaya is just a very bad joke , how can a tropical HCB be given shelf space ? A complete anathema

pollymere · 31/03/2018 23:21

I made my own as dd doesn't like dried fruit. She ate half of one sigh after I spent a ridiculous amount of time making something I could've picked up in the supermarket.

Beckyd1 · 31/03/2018 23:47

LOL 😂😂😂😂

squeekums · 31/03/2018 23:48

Im an equal opportunity HCB eater
We currently have mocha, chocolate and traditional ones here. Missed outon the brioche HCB

Marmite, be it on hcb or toast is vile, imitation vegemite, bad imitation vegemite at that

Ethylred · 31/03/2018 23:52

Treat? What are you, six?
