To think if you've killed & raped women we don't give a flying fuck what you think on any given matter

Lord Patel has invited rapist killer 'Karen Jones', who says he is a woman to Parliament. Jones killed his partner aged 17, then raped a woman five days after being released and was sentenced to 'life' in 2002.

www.standard.co.uk/news/transexual-rapist-jailed-6971617.html

Now he has been released and Lord Patel has invited him to the House of Lords to advise on some matter that I can't really be bothered to mention. AIBU to not give a shit what he says and think he shouldn't have any kind of voice least of all in Parliament?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5440153/Trans-convict-invited-speak-House-Lords.html

Lord Patel thinks he has paid his debt to society. I think this is a grave insult, both to the man he killed and the woman he raped who thought she was going to die during his attack.

Have written a very long letter to my labour mp, quoting various bits from here for structure, asking her to ask Lord Patel what he’s laying at and what message he was sending to women (the picture of him smiling with Karen’s arms around him particularly ugh). Also asked her what the Labour Party is doing to protect the rights of women (bio) during an age of self Id, and where male (bodied persons) commit 98% of sexual crime.

PositivelyPERF · 28/02/2018 11:39

She said the attack was as a cry for help so that she could go back to prison and have the sex change operation she had needed all her life.

So he couldn’t have went up and vandalised a police car, punched another man (not condoning violence, just making a point), robbed somewhere, committed fraud, etc? No, it had to be a violent sex attack on a weaker bodied (biology) female. Piece of misogynistic, woman hating shit.

Hygge · 28/02/2018 11:46

PositivelyPERF I absolutely agree.

Found the reference to the Yorkshire Ambulance Trans Awareness Event on 13th February 2018.

link

"As part of the LGBT History Month programme, Yorkshire Ambulance Service will be hosting a trans awareness event.
At this event you will find out more about how ambulance services can improve the care to trans people, and see a newly created resource pack which contains a wealth of practical information.
We will welcome guest speaker Karen Jones who will provide an insight into her own experiences.

Finally, we will launch the new 'trans star of life' pin badges and a campaign to raise to the profile of trans issues.
Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance, resource pack and a pin badge.
The event is limited to 30 places, and early booking is advised."

No mention of the convicted killer and sex offender thing. Unsurprisingly.

I will email the YAS and ask for more info.

picklemepopcorn · 28/02/2018 12:26

Do emphasise the great distress it causes women and trans people, to find that violent and abusive people are chosen to speak on behalf of trans folk.

It's enough to make you think that all TIMs are violent. Obviously that can't be true. But that is how it looks when they can't find better representatives than these two.

ArcheryAnnie · 28/02/2018 12:33

I've just pressed "send" on an email about this to my Labour MP, too, Ohfucks.

picklemepopcorn · 28/02/2018 12:45

I want to post about it on FB, but as I am neither LGBorT, and haven't been in prison, I don't feel I have the right. I've reworded it several times, but can't express it appropriately. Now LM on the other hand... I am a woman, so LM is definitely treading on my toes...

StealthPolarBear · 28/02/2018 12:47

"

Theyd be real crimes against real people. You know, men

SimonBridges · 28/02/2018 13:28

In fairness though, Stealth the person he murdered was a man, albeit a gay man so that might not count as much, but is certainly more important than a woman being assaulted as we know. She was asking for it, being all female and that.

MrWriter · 28/02/2018 13:31

Oh my god, this is totally ridiculous.

whoareyoukidding · 28/02/2018 13:35

YANBU OP

Popchyk · 28/02/2018 13:54

And if this person does have such terrible gender dysphoria that he is compelled to attack women as a result of that (as was his defence), then surely transferring such people to women's prisons is the absolutely worst idea possible?

Won't their gender dysphoria cause them to attack all the women in a women's prison?

Isn't a men's prison the safest space for them in order to avoid them offending and to keep other inmates safe?

StealthPolarBear · 28/02/2018 13:56

Yes good point simon

IntoTheFloodAgain · 28/02/2018 13:57

I very rarely post on trans related threads because I think its a minefield.

But has there even been an explanation as to why his views even matter? What benefit will he give to anyone?

His ‘cry for help’ is just yet another way for normalise and excuse physical and sexual violence.

I can’t be the only one who reads the papers, sees another woman raped or abused, and (whilst I’m disgusted) I’m no longer shocked. It’s becoming another ‘one of those things’ - (kind of like war) it happens, but what can you do?
Just his reasons will give all other rapists a reasonable excuse. People will see that this is what gets your views heard.

I honestly don’t think there’s anything we can do to change what is coming. That may sound defeatist, but I think if you were to ask the powers that be their minds are made up.

I’ve seen countless posts on MN about people contacting their MPs etc and being ignored. They either don’t want to be labelled as bigots by responding, or they simply don’t care.

If I had the means to do so, I’d leave this country.

PositivelyPERF · 28/02/2018 14:28

Just his reasons will give all other rapists a reasonable excuse. People will see that this is what gets your views heard. That’s so true. Rapists and paedophiles have already had judges refusing to jail them, because they claim to be women and use that to claim to be unsafe in prison. Have a serious mental illness, harm someone and you’ll go to a psychiatric unit, as it should be. But hurt someone, claim to be a poor misunderstood man who wants to be a woman and go free. Or if you go to jail, we’ll let you go to a female jail, where you can be like a fox in a hen house. I have no doubt that so many men in power, including politicians are using the MRA agenda as an excuse to put women back in ‘their place’.

picklemepopcorn · 28/02/2018 15:16

I feel like we need someone incontrovertible to back us up. The only people I can think of with that kind of clout are men. David Attenborough. Robert Winston. Brian Cox. If people won't listen to Jenny Murray what hope have we got?

SeamusMacDubh · 28/02/2018 21:06

I think a big problem is that this kind of news is not well publicised. When I googled to find out more information about this the only article that came up was the Daily Mail and that Pink news article. Nothing from BBC etc.

SmileEachDay · 28/02/2018 21:17

Something you can do right now, is fill this in:

consult.gov.scot/family-law/review-of-the-gender-recognition-act-2004/

It’s a consult on gender self identity in Scotland - it’s very much going to be a test for the changes in England.

If you don’t want situations like this happening even more, get your opinion registered.

Butterymuffin · 28/02/2018 21:34

That consultation says 'closes March 1' - so it'll still be possible to do it tomorrow? I can barely keep awake right now,

SmileEachDay · 28/02/2018 21:36

I’d hope so, Buttery

ButchyRestingFace · 28/02/2018 21:38

Doesn't it just warm the cockles of your heart to see yet more cases of men indulging in their millennia-old woman hating under the auspices of "progress"?

They are always finding new and novel ways to oppress women.

ADooDoobyDoo · 28/02/2018 21:42

That's awful. Sad

SeamusMacDubh · 28/02/2018 21:50

Thanks for the link @SmileEachDay.

cheminotte · 28/02/2018 22:15

Thanks for the link - I’ve been meaning to do it but hadn’t thought about the consequences for the rest of Uk so have finally completed it.

kaitlinktm · 01/03/2018 09:33

I managed to do it today (1st March) so there is still (just) time.
