Lord Patel has invited rapist killer 'Karen Jones', who says he is a woman to Parliament. Jones killed his partner aged 17, then raped a woman five days after being released and was sentenced to 'life' in 2002.

Now he has been released and Lord Patel has invited him to the House of Lords to advise on some matter that I can't really be bothered to mention. AIBU to not give a shit what he says and think he shouldn't have any kind of voice least of all in Parliament?

Lord Patel thinks he has paid his debt to society. I think this is a grave insult, both to the man he killed and the woman he raped who thought she was going to die during his attack.

I've just read this story and I've had to have a sit down. What the fuck has happened to our world that we allow a attempted murder/rapist to influence the protection of women.

Karen is Male, a violent sex off being Male and I desperately feel for HIS victims.

Someone (sorry can't remember who) suggested on another thread that the reason TIMs are gaining such traction is because men feel sorry for them. It's the same thing as all those people who scoff "do you honestly imagine a man would pretend to be a woman in order to access women's spaces to assault them?". There is nothing more humiliating than being a woman. The misogyny behind that is staggering.

It’s some fucking corny redemption story shite isn’t it? Oh yes I was a violent, murderous rapist but then I decided that I felt like a woman inside and now I advise the House of Lords and St John’s Ambulance! Oh what a rags to riches tale of overcoming adversity and personal sacrifice.

I've pieced a few bits together:

Timeline:

2001 - Mark Jones sentenced to 5 years for the manslaughter of his partner Cutler. Sent to male prison.
2002 - Released on licence and attempts to rape a woman within 5 days.
2003 - Sentenced to life imprisonment for that attack as Karen Louise Lawson, but sent to a man's prison as he was a man
2006 - Granted a Gender Recognition Certificate (in the men's prison, despite being pre-op)
2007 - Asks Parole Board for early release. Denied.
2009 - Asks for transfer to women's prison. Granted. link

Released from the women's prison some time after that. Don't know when. But clearly hasn't done 15 years which I thought a life sentence actually was. And wouldn't this person have had to finish their original sentence on top of that since they committed another crime while on licence?

BBC News link also from the time of the attempted rape.

This one says he strangled his male victim, and that when he attempted to rape the women he failed because he could not get an erection. He then went on the run for a month before handing himself in.

That must have been a month of pure hell for his victim.

Do they know he's redeemed because he's not raped or murdered any women since he was moved to a women's prison? So his murderous violent tantrum because he wasn't allowed to wear a blouse has been rewarded.

Pink News Link from 2005 says that the Judge at the Trial refused to set a minimum tariff for the length of the sentence but the Court of Appeal refused to say Jones/Lawson should be locked up indefinitely and set a three and a half year minimum before parole would be considered.

So that's why they asked for release in 2007. I did wonder. Because the court of appeal had overturned the life sentence to three and a half years minimum.

Bloody hell. Things couldn't actually have gone any better for this person. Commit two horrific crimes, serve just a few years of your original sentences (and use that time to sue the government, get a GRC and sex change on the NHS). Then get out and become motivational speaker and have politicians fawning over you.

Someone should make a film.

I've wanted a breast reduction since forever due to physical discomfort and dysphoria.

Can't get one on the NHS. Can't afford to have it done privately. I wonder if I clobber someone and grope a few guys, my GP might reconsider.
