To think pasta is rubbish?

It's sloppy, tasteless and not particularly good for you. So what's the point in it?

Pasta and meatballs
Spag bol
Tagliatelle
Tortellini
Lasagna

They can all sod off, there are much better dinners.

I also (without any nutritional knowledge at all) think a potato must be better as it comes straight from the ground so therefore less processed = better.

Mash
Dophinouise
Chips
Clearly superior!!

If it's sloppy and tasteless you are doing it wrong!

tortelliniforever · 06/02/2018 20:07

Shop bought tortellini are usually vile though, I'll give you that.

anyoldname76 · 06/02/2018 20:08

yabu, my dh cooked a delicious spicy tomato pasta dish last night and it was gorgeous, your obviously not cooking it right Grin

Deshasafraisy · 06/02/2018 20:08

You’re not making it properly. Buy a cookbook

crackerjacket · 06/02/2018 20:08

Pasta is crap

LastOneDancing · 06/02/2018 20:08

Agree.

MoHunter · 06/02/2018 20:08

YABU, if your pasta is sloppy and tasteless you’re not doing it right. Grin

bridgetreilly · 06/02/2018 20:08

Pasta is really not very processed. It's just flour and water, and sometimes egg. People have been eating it for thousands of years.

Rebeccaslicker · 06/02/2018 20:09

It's nutritionally rubbish.

It's so tasty. Fuck, I miss pasta!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 06/02/2018 20:09

You’ve lumped types of pasta in with recipes using pasta.

I would also recommend a good cook book!

FarmerSee · 06/02/2018 20:09

I love pasta

Eaten in moderation, and cooked properly. It's very versatile.

WTFIsThisVirus · 06/02/2018 20:10

You're doing it wrong.

i love a good spaghetti bolognese Grin

liz70 · 06/02/2018 20:10

It's only sloppy if you overcook it, and it's tasteless (unless filled) because it's a starch that you accompany with sauce and meat, veg etc, same as rice, cous cous and other starches. Meh. Eat pasta, eat spuds, eat both (maybe not at the same time), eat neither. What an odd thread.

Worieddd · 06/02/2018 20:10

I love pasta
And rice
And potatoes

You’re quite clearly doing it wrong

BertieBotts · 06/02/2018 20:11

I think all carbs are rubbish TBH - all bland and boring and chewy. I can't understand the carb love. Give me a vegetable or a piece of meat, something with actual flavour.

But you're right if you have to pick one, the potato is definitely the best.

carinwashingmachine · 06/02/2018 20:11

To me dried pasta and fresh pasta are two entirely different foods. Love the latter, would not voluntarily eat the former..

AssassinatedBeauty · 06/02/2018 20:11

Potato without the skin isn't better than white pasta. Wholemeal pasta is nice imo, and a decent food alongside veg and protein.

A good lasagna isn't sloppy or tasteless!

toffee1000 · 06/02/2018 20:12

Ever since I’ve been able to eat solid food my favourite thing has been pasta. If it’s sloppy and tasteless you are doing it very very wrong!! YABmassivelyU.

FWIW I like potatoes too. They’re not better for you than pasta on the carbs front though.

Bambamber · 06/02/2018 20:12

YABU I'm the exact opposite! Not a big fan of spuds in any form, although I'm not adverse to sweet potato. I could eat pasta all day long though. We use whole wheat pasta so not as bad as white pasta Grin

RickOShay · 06/02/2018 20:13

I’m not that keen on pasta, prefer spuds, would never choose it.

goose1964 · 06/02/2018 20:13

try wholemeal it actually has a taste , if it's sloppy it's overcooked

Wallywobbles · 06/02/2018 20:14

Everyone loves it here but me. Cardboard.

It's better in Italy but it's still not my first choice.

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 06/02/2018 20:14

I love pasta. And potatoes. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Macaroni cheese and chips is a standard dish in Scotland.

Dinner of champions.

MongerTruffle · 06/02/2018 20:14

Pasta is not overly processed. It's just durum wheat semolina mixed with eggs (or sometimes water).

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 06/02/2018 20:15

I have massive texture issues with some forms of potato dishes. Pasta all the way. It's all about how you do it and what it's with, and a sensible portion size. View it as a vehicle for whatever you are having with it.
