To think pasta is rubbish?

It's sloppy, tasteless and not particularly good for you. So what's the point in it?

Pasta and meatballs
Spag bol
Tagliatelle
Tortellini
Lasagna

They can all sod off, there are much better dinners.

I also (without any nutritional knowledge at all) think a potato must be better as it comes straight from the ground so therefore less processed = better.

Mash
Dophinouise
Chips
Clearly superior!!

I’m sure millions of Italians wouldn’t agree, but then again it’ll be fresh, and not that dried crap.

WhyDidIEatThat · 06/02/2018 20:33

I haaaaate potatoes - massive effort to get them to taste of anything. Pasta even with just oil and garlic is yum.

ObiJuanKenobi · 06/02/2018 20:33

Omg @Greensleeves Grin

Dahlietta · 06/02/2018 20:33

Bet you voted Leave

StealthPolarBear · 06/02/2018 20:34

I love it. Its the texture

expatinscotland · 06/02/2018 20:34

'Both pasta and potatoes are bad for you actually'

No, they're not. There's no such thing as bad for you food, only lack of moderation Hmm.

YABU. Pasta is gorgeous. Can't eat any dairy, so dauphinoise is out for me.

Lweji · 06/02/2018 20:35

It's about as processed as bread.
And bolognese sauce.
And mash.

Reddlion · 06/02/2018 20:35

I love pasta had it today

EmpireVille · 06/02/2018 20:35

Today 20:11 carinwashingmachine

To me dried pasta and fresh pasta are two entirely different foods. Love the latter, would not voluntarily eat the former..

I bet you couldn't tell the difference in a blind taste test.

Mrstumbletap · 06/02/2018 20:35

Greensleeves ha ha absolutely not.

I also voted green.

But potatoes still rule.

I hate this kind of nonsense.

Potatoes are a source of vitamin B6, vitamin C, iron, and potassium.

BitOfFun · 06/02/2018 20:37

Potatoes ARE good for you- they weren't a staple food of the Irish for no good reason. They contain vitamin C and B6, and significant amounts of potassium and magnesium, which is good for heart health, and even some protein, as well as carbohydrates for energy, and soluble and insoluble fibre.

Wtfdoicare · 06/02/2018 20:37

I can't bear pasta, but can just about manage my homemade lasagna. It's the stodginess and the texture. I don't eat bread either for the same reasons but love rice.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 06/02/2018 20:37

Where do you stand on gnocchi?

I like pasta and potatoes. Occasionally in the same meal. In fact, I can't think of any carb I don't like. Except maybe quinoa.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 06/02/2018 20:37

Love both pasta & potatoes. If yours is shit it's your fault, nothing to do with the pasta.

neveradullmoment99 · 06/02/2018 20:39

It can be delicious. I love a good homemade lasagne and I had spaghetti Bolognese tonight Yum. YABVU

Royalfuckup · 06/02/2018 20:40

dophinouse. What is that? The nose of a dolphin? 🤔

neveradullmoment99 · 06/02/2018 20:40

Pasta and potatoes are NOT bad for you. What a lot of nonsense.

Pasta is an excellent source of complex carbohydrates, which provide a slow release of energy. Unlike simple sugars that offer a quick, yet fleeting boost of energy, pasta helps sustain energy. Pasta is very low in sodium and cholesterol-free.

AdoraBell · 06/02/2018 20:41

T’is spuds with onions and cream Royal, reet Good it is 😁

TellMeItsNotTrue · 06/02/2018 20:41

Try roasting pasta first before cooking as normal, gives the pasta a flavour

Jaygee61 · 06/02/2018 20:42

My egg and spinach tagliatelle with homemade fresh tomato sauce is lush.

Mrstumbletap · 06/02/2018 20:42

Exactly my point, pasta is like bread isn't it?

This is what I was saying to DH at dinner. We had tortellini stuffed with spinach and ricotta. With a nice tomato mascarpone sauce and salad.

The pasta is the same as having 2 slices of bread isn't it? It's just processed flour and water etc.

Except bread has vitamins, what does pasta have? especially white pasta, other than some fibre?

Neither of them are bad for you. Pasta is actually a good source of protein. Potatoes are a good source of fibre and vitamin C.
I'm not a lover of pasta myself, I associate it with being poor and having to eat whatever is cheapest. I quite like potatoes but I find them hard to eat. I'd rather have bread than pasta or potatoes.

kitkatsky · 06/02/2018 20:45

YAB so U! Pasta is life!

Mrstumbletap · 06/02/2018 20:46

Tellmeit'snottrue roasting it first? What is this madness?

Do you just put it in some oil in a roasting** dish for 5 mins before boiling?
