To think pasta is rubbish?

It's sloppy, tasteless and not particularly good for you. So what's the point in it?

Pasta and meatballs
Spag bol
Tagliatelle
Tortellini
Lasagna

They can all sod off, there are much better dinners.

I also (without any nutritional knowledge at all) think a potato must be better as it comes straight from the ground so therefore less processed = better.

Mash
Dophinouise
Chips
Clearly superior!!

Both pasta and potatoes are bad for you actually

actually neither are bad for you.

As for whoever snootily said they wouldn't eat dried pasta, you'be be heartily laughed at in Italy! Dried and fresh are used for different purposes, and neither is in any way superior.

Mrstumbletap · 06/02/2018 21:17

Dailyshite so basically a very dull cheese sandwich

That isn’t a meal, that is awful.

BrimFire · 06/02/2018 21:17

I think it's ok with a bit of cheese. Lasagne is food of the goods.

But yeah. Potatoes are better nutrionially and in terms off flavour. Crisps and chips.....there's a reason people are fat and that's because they are bloody delicious.

Bloomed · 06/02/2018 21:17

If you want both pasta and potatoes this dish is great cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/6078-pasta-with-green-beans-and-potatoes-with-pesto

DiegoMadonna · 06/02/2018 21:18

YABVVVVU

Pasta is awesome

Potatoes are awesome

Cheese sandwiches are awesome

Rice is pretty good

Mrstumbletap · 06/02/2018 21:20

Antipasto is also amazing in Italy. But generally I go for pizza, or meat.

I saw on a program the other day the character saying she just eats pasta with butter stirred in, that is actually a thing isn’t it? People eat that and love it.

DavetheCat2001 · 06/02/2018 21:21

mmmmmmm pasta...

Clem7 · 06/02/2018 21:22

I agree OP. I will eat it, and pasta dishes can be nice even if their shared component is the culinary equivalent of a shrug, but it’s the worst of the core carbs and wholly unsatisfying.

DragonBone · 06/02/2018 21:24

I love pasta (and rice) always cook it in either chicken or beef stock depending on what we have it with.

Springtrolls · 06/02/2018 21:26

Pasta awesome. Cheap staple to have in the cupboard. But you need to know how to cook it. And don't buy the really cheap stuff.
Rice, again awesome. Cheap staple to have in the cupboard. Again, need to know how to cook it.
Both have a longer life than a potato. Both can be used with your veg that needs to be used to make a meal.
Potatoes are also awesome.

They each have their uses.

frozenlake · 06/02/2018 21:27

Pasta with butter is my DD's favourite meal. It was called donkey spaghetti where we lived, I have no idea if Italians eat it. She was very sad when returning to the UK it wasn't a thing.
DS won't touch pasta except occassionally a lasagna.
I am a Scot so love all carbs, I think it was a law where I grew up.

kateandme · 06/02/2018 21:28

get made or make a good pasta dish.cook it properly and its the food of the gods.
potatos are not above it.but not below it.both the same brilliance when cooked well.

Sarahh2014 · 06/02/2018 21:29

Pasta is the Goddess of comfort food

pasturesgreen · 06/02/2018 21:30

Roasting pasta?! What fresh hell is that?

Pasta is the food of the gods. If yours is sloppy, OP, you must be overcooking it to death Envy < not envy

Now I'm craving homemade lasagne. Bugger!

Jupiter15 · 06/02/2018 21:33

YABVU Pasta is not ‘processed’, not sloppy. What’s the problem with it bein ‘carby’? Carbohydrates are an important food group.
Wholemeal pasta is fibrous so good for bowel health. It’s versatile and there are hundreds of delicious sauces you can have with it.
If you don’t like it that’s fine but it’s not rubbish!

MsRinky · 06/02/2018 21:34

I could eat pasta twice a day, every day of the week. Food of the gods.
I have lost 4 stone since I gave it up.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 06/02/2018 21:34

Frozen-yes, Italians do eat pasta with butter stirred in. Usually some parmesan as well. Pasta, burro e parmigiano. Quick comfort food.

Winebottle · 06/02/2018 21:38

Like all the carbs, it is nothing on it's own, it all depends on the sauce. I prefer it to rice but not potatoes. It is not especially good nutritionally but it is cheap and easy which is why it appeals.

bigsighall · 06/02/2018 21:50

Mmm pasta with margarine Smile

SpikyCoconut · 06/02/2018 21:51

I agree. I think It's tasteless pointless stodge. So many other starchy carby foods with taste and more nutritional value.

ObiJuanKenobi · 06/02/2018 21:52

I never knew people were so attached to, and defensive of, pasta 🤔

lilabet2 · 06/02/2018 21:53

Very very unreasonable- pasta is delicious!

sonlypuppyfat · 06/02/2018 21:55

Pasta is a pointless food, boiled dough

safariboot · 06/02/2018 22:00

YABU. You might not like it, but calling it rubbish is nonsense.

You can't live on vitamins and minerals alone, a healthy balanced diet needs starch. Wholewheat pasta is more flavourful than white.

geekone · 06/02/2018 22:01

Pasta, pesto, chicken and cherry tomatoes my guilty pleasure yummmm
