To think pasta is rubbish?

It's sloppy, tasteless and not particularly good for you. So what's the point in it?

Pasta and meatballs
Spag bol
Tagliatelle
Tortellini
Lasagna

They can all sod off, there are much better dinners.

I also (without any nutritional knowledge at all) think a potato must be better as it comes straight from the ground so therefore less processed = better.

Mash
Dophinouise
Chips
Clearly superior!!

If it’s sloppy, you obviously can’t cope with boiling pasta! If it’s tasteless you’ve obviously not cooked the accompaniment right.

Spaghetti, baby tomatoes, lemon juice and good glug of olive oil-Heaven.
Home made lasagna is lush, but admittedly ready meal ones aren’t great and can be tasteless
Home made meatballs in a rich tomato sauce with pasta cooked right is lovey and always a favourite for my dc.

Camomila · 06/02/2018 20:16

Mamma Mia shakes head sadly

Pasta al forno
Pasta puttanesca
Pasta e vongole
Homemade tortellini
Pizzoccheri
Minestrone with little pasta shapes when you are poorly....

Most of my relatives lived to their late 80s/90s on a largely pasta based diet.

OutyMcOutface · 06/02/2018 20:16

If you don't like pasta it's because you've never had good pasta. Food of the gods.

EmmaGellerGreen · 06/02/2018 20:18

It's vile, disgusting stuff. Makes my toes curl seeing people eat it. Noodles too. Poor ds thinks it's an exotic food that he gets elsewhere.

RickOShay · 06/02/2018 20:19

I have had good pasta, it’s ok, but out of say a baked potato and carbonara, I would take the spud every time.
Only exception would be if I was in Italy at the timeGrin
British pasta however no contest

Mrstumbletap · 06/02/2018 20:20

Just to update I'm not actually making the pasta from scratch I'm cooking it. Even cooked all dente, its still sloppy rubbish.

It's rubbish in nice Italian restaurants, It's rubbish in Pizza Express, It's rubbish in Prezzo etc etc

Mash is thick and yummy, dophinouse are lovely and creamy, crisps and crunchy and lovely.

Pasta ergghhh processed carby yuck.

I find pasta and rice dull. I like the pasta sauce so will usually have that on its own, with things like curry I tend to do other veg accompaniments such as gobi aloo, chilli, I do a baked sweet potato. I find pasta and rice pointless.

Enidthecat · 06/02/2018 20:21

You're cooking it wrong! I have never had pasta which was sloppy or tasteless.

Granted not the most nutritionally complete food but a firm favourite.

ToadOfSadness · 06/02/2018 20:21

Green pea or red lentil pasta is nicer since the supermarket stuff seems to be flavoured with cinnamon. Italian pasta is different, and I buy that but mostly use the green pea ones.

Praisebe · 06/02/2018 20:23

Both pasta and potatoes are bad for you actually

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 06/02/2018 20:23

How can pasta be 'sloppy'? Confused

Allthewaves · 06/02/2018 20:23

Kids are loving red lentil pasta - higher in protein and gluten free. Also brown rice pasta is nice.

PuppyMonkey · 06/02/2018 20:23

I can’t eat most pasta, it makes me gag. Only type of pasta I can eat is lasagne, I think maybe because it’s thin sheets. The texture of a blob of fusilli or a whole string of spaghetti I just can’t cope with, I can’t swallow it.

I realise this makes me weird. Grin

Ummmmgogo · 06/02/2018 20:24

yanbu! it's the worst carb (apart from maybe yucky couscous). rice bread and potatoes are where it's at.

Mrstumbletap · 06/02/2018 20:25

Interesting.......It seems many people love the pasta. 🤔 But there are a few people that agree it's rubbish.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny Rice too that is rubbish as well!

The meatballs are nice
The bolgnese sauce is nice
The creamy/spicy/tomato sauce is nice

The spaghetti/tagliatelle it's going on top of ruins the dinner.

YABU. Pasta isn't sloppy and tasteless unless you over cook it.
We all love pasta in my family

Cheekyandfreaky · 06/02/2018 20:28

YABU pasta is my bloody vice because it’s just so delicious. Pasta with just EVOO and sea salt vs potato with the same? C’mon the pasta wins every time. I do love potato and all carbs though..!

WhyDidIEatThat · 06/02/2018 20:28

You don’t put sauce on top of pasta, what are you??? You tip the pasta into the sauce and mix it properly.

Greensleeves · 06/02/2018 20:28

Bet you voted Leave

mumonashoestring · 06/02/2018 20:29

It's not pasta, it's what you do with it that counts - linguine tossed with garlic, butter and clams; egg noodles sitting in fresh pho; spaghetti carbonara - properly made not swimming in bland cream sauce. All gorgeous.

WhooooAmI24601 · 06/02/2018 20:30

Home made pasta is the absolute hands-down best dinner ever. But only when DH makes it; mine's always shite.

YABU.

AdoraBell · 06/02/2018 20:30

YABU

I did a carbonara tonight and it was 😋 delicious.

Bigfatchips · 06/02/2018 20:31

I'm not mad about pasta and I do cook it right. There's a sweetness to it that I don't particularly get on with. Am guessing the sweetness is what makes it so appealing to toddlers and children.

Far prefer rice, and then potatoes.

ShapelyBingoWing · 06/02/2018 20:31

Pasta is a textural shit show. I'm sorry, but it is.

I don't dislike it, I don't overcook it and I'm very adept at knocking up a very good pasta dish. But you have to really love the texture of pasta to eat it frequently. Different shapes hold sauces differently but the pasta itself IMO doesn't end up a notably different texture when cooked based on its shape.

Potato on the other hand is a textural masterpiece. They both just carry other flavours but a potato does it with style.

LaurieMarlow · 06/02/2018 20:31

It's not pasta's fault that you're doing it wrong Wink

Potatoes are very good too if course, but mam shouldn't live on one carb alone.
