To think pasta is rubbish?

It's sloppy, tasteless and not particularly good for you. So what's the point in it?

Pasta and meatballs
Spag bol
Tagliatelle
Tortellini
Lasagna

They can all sod off, there are much better dinners.

I also (without any nutritional knowledge at all) think a potato must be better as it comes straight from the ground so therefore less processed = better.

Mash
Dophinouise
Chips
Clearly superior!!

I am going to Florence in a few days time. I’m hoping to eat lots of delicious pasta. I love pasta.

Babyroobs · 07/02/2018 18:29

Yabu - dh cooked Gnocci with sundried tomatoes, chicken , red onion and a pesto sauce last nice. It was delicious.

misscheery · 07/02/2018 18:29

Mmmmm.....

It means you never tried pasta verdure in my favorite place and the carbonara made by me. Come on over to dinner and I'll show you the world, come to the dark side, we have pasta! Halo

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 07/02/2018 19:15

@Babyroobs - gnocchi isn’t pasta, it’s...potatoes Grin

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 07/02/2018 19:16

(Sure someone will be along shortly to tell me Italians class it as pasta though! WinkGrin)

ShutYoFace · 07/02/2018 20:02

it is pretty much classed as pasta. It would always be grouped under pasta, it would be considered by the vast majority as a type of pasta dish, though if pressed any might say it may not be technically.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 07/02/2018 20:04

De Cecco and Garofalo, or other bronze cut pastas are undoubtedly better than most dried pasta. They cost about 3 times what Barilla does though, so in this (Italian) household, it's Barilla unless those two are on offer.

AmethystRaven · 07/02/2018 20:07

YABU. I can't state that strongly enough.

MotherofPearl · 07/02/2018 20:17

I agree with pps who say that it's worth spending more on decent dried pasta. De Cecco is my favourite. Supermarket own brand pasta, or economy brands, are often sloppy and slimy, even if not technically overlooked.

For pasta I do think it's all about the ingredients being good quality. So pasta pesto is absolutely delicious if the pesto is homemade with top ingredients, but with cheap pasta and jarred sauce it is horrid.

Diana - Thanks for enlightening me. It tastes more like pasta then potatoes to me ! We had it at Bella Italia last week so I think I just made an Italian connection and thought it was pasta !!
