AIBU Trollhunting is ruining AIBU

I understand troll hunting if the OP is giving dangerous advice. However, increasingly every single poster is being grilled by troll hunters about every aspect of their post. It makes a thread hard to follow and really boring to read.

I don't understand why the troll hunters do it, there is an easy to use report button. I have read several threads in the last week where the OP was subjected to constant snide comments about the veracity of their post. I think if these troll hunters persist then people won't want to post at all.

If I have doubts when I read a post I look up the history of the poster. If they have a normal posting history then chances are they aren’t a troll. I saw a thread earlier this week when someone accused the OP of being a troll and a quick look at OPs posting history showed they obviously weren’t.

peachgreen · 26/01/2018 22:50

I think sometimes it's useful to have posters Point it out on the thread for those who might be getting sucked in or sharing information in good faith when the OP is a nasty troll (ie the poo troll).

Trueheart1 · 26/01/2018 22:53

Peach, you are right about the pervs who come her for thrills and underwear posts. I was thinking more of the fun CF threads that are now often 50% full of troll hunters grilling the OP.

There are many trolls and some are very obviously trolls. It’s sad to see good people sucked in and you feel duty bound to help

tabbywabby · 26/01/2018 22:55

YANBU

It's so tedious (and often makes them looks like idiots). There is a report button for a reason 😡

peachgreen · 26/01/2018 22:55

I find them quite annoying, especially when they're badly done, but I agree there's no point troll-hunting on them as they're a bit of fun for those who enjoy them. Though I suspect if AIBU became completely overrun by them they'd be less fun!

TittyGolightly · 26/01/2018 22:56

Nah. It’s all the “not an AIBU but I’m putting it here anyway” posts that are ruining AIBU.

IvorBiggun · 26/01/2018 22:57

Arf at “ruining AIBU” Grin

AIBU is a steaming pile of shite inhabited by nasty bastards and the hysterical.

Trueheart1 · 26/01/2018 22:58

Ivor, as you're here, which category do you fall into?

OP posts:
Samcro · 26/01/2018 22:58

Yabu
Gf and trolls are ruining mn

SumThucker · 26/01/2018 23:00

Yep, trolls are ruining MN.

AIBU is 99% made up bollocks anyway.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 26/01/2018 23:01

Nah the trolls ruined it long ago.

GrooovyLass · 26/01/2018 23:02

It is tedious to swipe through pages and pages of "really?" and "this didn't happen."

If you think something isn't true then report it ffs.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 26/01/2018 23:02

And the report button seems to have a hit and miss approach depending on who is manning it.

Trueheart1 · 26/01/2018 23:03

Groovylass I totally agree with you.

OP posts:
IvorBiggun · 26/01/2018 23:03

I don’t recall mentioning the words “solely” or “only” so I don’t believe I would have to belong to either category 🤷‍♀️

Tonight I am mostly wearily patronising I reckon; tired of reading the same old stuff, tired of the endless trolling and tired of being tired of it.

Viviennemary · 26/01/2018 23:06

It's the trolls who are at fault and not the ones calling them out. I read a totally mad thread tonight and I thought is this what MN has come to. Believing a total load of rubbish.

EggsonHeads · 26/01/2018 23:07

TROLL! Wink(sarcastic wink)

TheStoic · 26/01/2018 23:09

If MNHQ were on top of things, there would be no need to troll-hunt.

Sparklingbrook · 26/01/2018 23:09

Troll hunting? There's no actual hunting required. More troll spotting.

Trolls are the problem here.

inkandstone · 26/01/2018 23:11

There are so may dodgy posts recently though. I never know which ones to believe.

ObscuredbyFog · 26/01/2018 23:12

It’s sad to see good people sucked in and you feel duty bound to help

That's what the report button is for.

CotswoldStrife · 26/01/2018 23:15

Some people give really personal details out to trolls. Yes, it's their choice. But I suspect most give their details because they think they are helping, not contributing to a work of fiction Hmm

Some threads have a grain of truth in them and I can see the point of responding in a way that anyone reading it would find useful, as they might be going through something similar themselves and value the advice.

It's when obviously untrue threads are reported and no action is taken that posters get riled. It's a difficult line for MN to walk if no harm is being done and it's just a pile of crap!

FlyingElbows · 26/01/2018 23:16

Troll hunters have been doing their thing for a long long time, it's not a new phenomenon. I'd suggest it's because a good few have them will have been around for a fair while and seen more than enough kind hearted but easily manipulated people get sacked in to believing some truly awful lies. Lots of mnetters are way to quick to spill personal information all over the page but often just because they've never seen the obvious fetishists looking for your experiences of whichever perversion floats their boat or the sick fucks who invent ill babies who die. Is AIBU really being ruined by people who want others to stop and think before they empty their heads?

AnathemaPulsifer · 27/01/2018 00:34

Troll hunting is banned, though. Isn’t it? Perhaps we need some sort of consequence for posting troll hunting comments on a thread - a one hour ban, perhaps?
