AIBU Trollhunting is ruining AIBU

I understand troll hunting if the OP is giving dangerous advice. However, increasingly every single poster is being grilled by troll hunters about every aspect of their post. It makes a thread hard to follow and really boring to read.

I don't understand why the troll hunters do it, there is an easy to use report button. I have read several threads in the last week where the OP was subjected to constant snide comments about the veracity of their post. I think if these troll hunters persist then people won't want to post at all.

The worst thing about MN is the huge amount of trolls. It's pathetic and weird of them. Fake 'cheeky fucker' posts are beyond tedious as are the silly posters who get so hyped up by the obviously fake story.

The second worse thing about MN is the massive number of nasty and unpleasant posters who take delight in trying to upset or insult other people. The no 'personal attacks' rule is ridiculously easy to circumvent. It's too easy for the nasty posters to word things so the technically get away with it. I wish MNHQ would clamp down on this sort or post.

I don't find troll hunting as much of a problem to be honest. The post that was deleted last night with loads of troll hunting in wasn't 'ruined' by the troll hunters was it????

I don't troll hunt as I don't want a suspension or to be banned but I have done in the past. However I agree that it should be banned. I just report threads. I find the posters moaning about troll hunters a bit daft. They are saying why don't troll hunters just report, why do they have to comment when they them selves should also just report and not comment 💁🏻‍♀️

TickyTakky · 27/01/2018 08:26

Sorry typos

Trueheart1 · 27/01/2018 08:30

Stoic, if we simpletons embarass you, why don't you report the thread and then leave it alone? Your actions are stopping genuine posters like pepperedbeef from posting. You are not in charge.

That’s what I do.

raviolidreaming · 27/01/2018 08:34

I really want to reply but someone just knocked on my door and said that their friend lives here. I said I bought the house from them but they refused to believe me and kicked me out. I'm now sat on my doorstep while they're in my house! I can see them drinking tea from my good mug! AIBU to ask what I should buy from Aldi whilst I wait for my celebrity DH to get home?

I was thinking more of the fun CF threads that are now often 50% full of troll hunters grilling the OP

They're not fun. They're shit. This isn't a creative writing forum.

MaisyPops · 27/01/2018 08:35

It depends.
I can think of one thread this week where none of it made any sense and it was all highly unlikely. At least a dozen people said 'unless you clarify we can't actually give advice'. The OP didn't clarify, continued to spout nonsense and quickly the thread became people wondering if she was talking bollocks. People tried on 2 different threads abd got nowhere. Yes there were questions but it was ti help.

Yesterday a toilet thread popped up about children and periods. Quite a few of us pointed out first time poster, toilet based, on AIBU, children focused, girl oj period. Zero troll hunting required. It was troll spotting. And much better to say than have people discussing children wetting themselves or period leaking (as has happened on other threads when people haven't pointed it out).

Some is just nasty, but I wish someone had said some of the early threads i posted on.were trolls obsessed with the toileting habits of kids.

Trueheart1 · 27/01/2018 08:38

Masypops I completely agree with calling out the pedo/perv threads. They are very different from CF threads and fantasy threads about having 6 perfect children.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 27/01/2018 08:48

Maybe we should have a fictional section then. For people to cheer and clap for contradictory made up "CF" bollocks. Because it doesn't belong in AIBU.

Creative Writing is taken, maybe we could call it "Take A Break".

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 27/01/2018 08:53

I know troll hunting isn't allowed etc etc.
But some of the stuff on here is absolutely laughable and obvious rubbish.

Sparklingbrook · 27/01/2018 08:53

There have been some very odd threads posted lately that's for sure and the OPs of them have done themselves no favours at all. It feels like you can't ask any questions at all without getting jumped on, even when the OP is being very vague.

I take every post at face value, report if it seems really out of this world and don't reply on questions of which the answers could quite likely be used as wank material for the many "women" on here.

Sparklingbrook · 27/01/2018 08:56

Some trolls do have a posting history. They are in it for the long game. They usually post a few times in Baby Names to start with.

mustlovedogs · 27/01/2018 08:59

Yanbu

MaisyPops · 27/01/2018 08:59

janey
For general troll threads I agree.
For the ones which are clearly poo troll/toilet trolls who are trying to get people to share tales of children having accidents in school/ girls leakinh on their period, then I think people are actually qiite good for telling people to be cautious before giving some perv their wank fodder.

I couldn't agree more, it's so boring!

Troll hunters against pervs: fantastic
Troll hunters against begging threads where too kind posters could be too generous: very useful

anything else is tidious and fun spoiling. Who believes that anything on AIBU is true, or at least 100% true? At best it's one-sided, details have been changed slightly to protect privacy as it should be. Otherwise who care? If you don't believe the thread, just go onto another one.

I saw people accused of make stuff up, when frankly in real life I witnessed a similar-ish situation, but much worst. And again, who really gives a shit? This is an internet forum, not a news agency (who should only report accurate facts, all other debate)

The troll hunters actually enjoy disturbing the site, their game is to be banned as often as possible, and they are at war against MN and the "stupid" posters who are on the site. They are petulant, childish but their subforum is quite entertaining when you see how smug they are. Just a bunch of bullies (hi girls!)

YANBU

Sparklingbrook · 27/01/2018 09:06

Yes maybe the odd one Janey. But it was proved this week that if the OP emails MNHQ the thread can be reinstated.

Some threads that appeared to be pervs have turned out not to be...

Surely this is the answer? Set it up like r/nosleep on Reddit, where the rules are that it’s mostly fiction but everyone agrees to treat it like it’s real. People get to make up whatever CF bollocks they like, cheerleaders get to wave pom-poms and write poetry, other boards left for stuff that actually happened.

ShastaTrinity · 27/01/2018 09:15

If troll hunters were that genuine in their crusade, it wouldn't be such a badge of honour to get banned from the site.

Some posters have genuine concerns, others are just enjoying disturbing the site and closing down full threads sometimes to ensure you can't say anything they don't agree with, or just because bullying is fun

Sparklingbrook · 27/01/2018 09:16

Nobody on MN appears to like 'sections' though. Everything has to be posted in AIBU 'for traffic' Wink

ShastaTrinity · 27/01/2018 09:17

JaneyEJones

Can I be banned from "the other place" do you think? Grin
