AIBU Trollhunting is ruining AIBU

I understand troll hunting if the OP is giving dangerous advice. However, increasingly every single poster is being grilled by troll hunters about every aspect of their post. It makes a thread hard to follow and really boring to read.

I don't understand why the troll hunters do it, there is an easy to use report button. I have read several threads in the last week where the OP was subjected to constant snide comments about the veracity of their post. I think if these troll hunters persist then people won't want to post at all.

"If you're persistently an unpleasant poster you'll get banned."

Really? Where in the Talk Guidelines does it say that we must be pleasant at all times? Hmm

You might be confusing this place with BabyCentre or NetHuns.

'I posted lots of pictures on other websites including Reddit and I was never banned for them here on MN so firmly believe it can't happen to anyone. '
Sorry, what?"

You see, your problem is that you think you know all that goes on around here but you clearly don't.

If you are not aware that a longstanding MNer was banned from MN for posting a picture (joke meme) on Reddit, then you are either very new or had your head in sand about 5 months ago.

CoteDAzur · 27/01/2018 11:05

And yes, I know this happened for a fact. I know who that MNer was and I read the thread at that time where Justine herself talked about it on MN.

Trolls aren’t necessarily attention seeking though- some are, but not all. Some have a broader agenda

TickyTakky · 27/01/2018 11:07

I wish that were true. There are some really caustic posters on MNHQ. They are careful to stay within talk guidelines but seem to enjoy being nasty to random people on the internet.

Christinayangstwistedsista · 27/01/2018 11:07

Ah is that when Justine compared people to shoplifters?

Trueheart1 · 27/01/2018 11:08

Johny what is their broader agenda?

YANBU, when I first joined Mumsnet one of my first posts was about sex after having a C-section, things like when was a good time and what were the risks etc. I got a few really helpful replies and then troll hunted and my post got deleted and my account was deactivated too. I had to email MNHQ to convince them I was a real person with a real question! They reactivated my account and the thread but it wasn't the same after that because no one wanted to post anymore ☹

CoteDAzur · 27/01/2018 11:10

Christina - That was on the same thread.

B cause there are loads of made up and exaggerated posts?

hollowtree · 27/01/2018 11:12

we can confidently say we don't ban just for reporting too often that's not true! I've still got my original email from you stating you had to delete my thread and account because I was reported too many times!

CoteDAzur · 27/01/2018 11:14

If you really saw that play out publicly on that thread, you would know that there really isn't anything more to it than that.

The fact is MNHQ want the trolls and weirdos as those threads get all the saddo cheerleaders frothing.

The site is being fattened up for sale.

Johnnycomelately1 · 27/01/2018 11:15

op it’s pretty clear than some posters start threads to build consensus behind certain viewpoints , particularly in respect of reproductive choices.

CoteDAzur · 27/01/2018 11:17

Also... Why are you confused all the time? Look up those threads if you need clarification.

HebeMumsnet · 27/01/2018 11:17

Again, just to clarify, although we don't people are pleasant at all times, and we do know everyone has an occasional off day, we do say at the top of talk guidelines:

'Our policy is to keep intervention to a minimum and let the conversation flow. That said, we're also here to make parents' lives easier, so where necessary, we will use our discretion to delete posts (or ban posters) if it seems to us that doing so is in keeping with this aim.'

'Making parents' lives easier' is a pretty broad notion obviously but being persistently unpleasant is one thing we might consider not in keeping with that aim.

Sorry - we realise that isn't really anything to do with troll-hunting per se, so apologies for the slight derail, OP.

I do hate it when you answer someone’s post perfectly normally albeit acerbically and get instructed to “calm down” by some silly knob Hmm

Anyway ...

hollowtree · 27/01/2018 11:30

'making parents' lives easier' is a pretty broad notion obviously but being persistently unpleasant is one thing we might consider not in keeping with that aim. 👏👏👏👏 Well said MNHQ!

TheStoic · 27/01/2018 11:33

The spotters feed the trolls and so it will continue.

The spotters don’t feed the trolls. Fangirls feed the trolls.

CoteDAzur · 27/01/2018 11:33

"Is that aimed at me? I'm not confused."

Do you think you're being funny by repeatedly posting the confused face, then?

JaneyEJones. Today 11:10
Cote. We all know about Milton Confused
... Sorry, I should have said if you're persistently a gf you'll be banned Confused
