AIBU Trollhunting is ruining AIBU

I understand troll hunting if the OP is giving dangerous advice. However, increasingly every single poster is being grilled by troll hunters about every aspect of their post. It makes a thread hard to follow and really boring to read.

I don't understand why the troll hunters do it, there is an easy to use report button. I have read several threads in the last week where the OP was subjected to constant snide comments about the veracity of their post. I think if these troll hunters persist then people won't want to post at all.

OP posts:

Understandable bummy, sometimes I'm surprised to find certain actors or musicians still aliveShock so convinced am I that they are not!

Bob Hoskins was a great actor, The Long Good Friday is one of my favourite films I think the ending with the music playing and his changing facial expressions is pure genius - nothing needs to be said, you know exactly what he's thinking.

I don't know whether this is troll hunting or not, but sometimes the OP posts something, and some tiny detail gets jumped on and every poster then piles in.

It's quite nasty to see.

There was a post couple of weeks ago and OP was getting roasted and I tried to intervene and I got a mouthful back.

I worry that those that are genuine, but get muddled with their facts, get such a hard time, and yet they're here for help and support.

Sometimes I've posted slightly different pieces of info so as not to get outed, and as a result, if you fudge the details (which I expect others to do too) some posters jump on that.

I made a harmless comment on a car the other day, but another poster wasn't having it. Felt she needed to correct my assertions Hmm

There was a thread about leaving a 2 year old and a poster remembered being 14 months old. Not so, say others posters! She got called deluded, a fantasist...etc

There are some nasty fuckers about. And I worry about the ones who can't handle it.

Sometime there's a real lack of empathy. And other times there's an abudance of it.

Such is life.

@gluteustothemaximus totally. If I've name changed to post something sensitive of course I'm going to change some details to avoid being outed.

Honestly, it really seems like some people just come on here to take the opportunity to be spiteful to people.

I guess you need to feel sorry for people who feel the need to do it but it's still bloody irritating!

It’s the changing of the apparently small details that make the tale come across as untrue. After all, strictly speaking it IS untrue by virtue of being altered.

ShatnersWig · 05/02/2018 15:27

But there's changing some details or avoiding a minor fact or two to avoid outing and then there's changing something pretty major or contradicting yourself from thread to thread.

Example:

Today's thread: I've been dating this guy for three months...
Fortnight ago thread: I'm wary of dating as a single parent, never done it before....
Six months ago thread: So I've been dating this guy...
Eight months ago thread: I'm wary of dating as a single parent, never done it before...
