How long is acceptable to wear a dressing gown

How long is acceptable to wear a dressing gown between washes. Currently resisting washing my new Xmas one because over washing will make it lose its softness faster. So not to drip feed I probably wear it for about 7-8 hours a day during the week (shock horror). I literally live in itnoutside ofnworking hours. Am I gross [lighthearted]

When other people start to comment on the stench 😁

Singlebutmarried · 05/01/2018 22:07

Stick it in the wash on a Friday lunchtime

Wear it Friday eve (if you have a tumble dryer)

If you can smell it it needs washing.

RaeCJ82 · 05/01/2018 22:09

It depends how unclean you are at the point in the day that you wear it. Are you putting it on after a shower/bath, or are you coming home from a day at work and then putting it straight on?
Do you have pyjamas underneath or just the dressing gown?
There are so many factors to consider!

WaggyMama · 05/01/2018 22:10

When there are too many splodges of melted chocolate down the front.

mishfish · 05/01/2018 22:11

I live in mine. I tend to wash it when it starts stinking

WTFsmh12 · 05/01/2018 22:11

Sadly I am a stickler for washing new stuff before I wear it, but I ,too , live in dressing gowns! Saves on the heating and I’m snuggly all day! But too answer your question I have two , I wear one whilst the other is in wash cos it stinks, and when it’s all fresh out the tumble dryer ,straight back on that evening after my bath! Grin try not to use too much fabric softener and use Lenor sheets in dryer .

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 05/01/2018 22:11

It'll lose it's softness anyway if it's all crispy with grot OP! Grin

Use some softner!

When you stand up and realise you've left a greasy mark on the leather sofa.

Egg on the lapels here, or a splosh of tea. About two weeks. But i only wear it for about 40 mins in the morning. I have three; love them.

Freshprincess · 05/01/2018 22:14

8 hours a day? You're living the dream
I'm a dirty skank so probably once a month when i notice the grubbiness.

Laiste · 05/01/2018 22:16

I got jam down mine this morn (while mumsnetting) so mine got washed today only a week since last time.

Usually i wear it for an hour or two a day only and wash it ...... every couple of months i guess. If i haven't spilled anything on it. or bled on it

I tend to wear big mens hoodies instead of dressing gowns, usually for a few hours a day and the cuffs on the sleeves start to smell a bit hamstery after a while, that's when I tend to wash them, usually about once every couple of weeks, I'm a bit of a slattern though

MsVestibule · 05/01/2018 22:20

I probably wear mine an average of eight hours a week (more in the school holidays) with nothing on underneath. I guess it gets washed once a month, if that.

But then, I am a bit of a scruff, so maybe not the best person to ask about what's acceptable WRT washing anything.

UterusUterusGhali · 05/01/2018 22:20

I got DP a new one last Christmas. I managed to persuade him to wash it in November Hmm Envy

He too was worried about it losing fluffiness but it was ok after a blast in the dryer.

LostInShoebiz · 05/01/2018 22:21

Oh God! I don't think I've washed a dressing gown in my life! I'm 44! So ashamed.

ILoveMrDarcy · 05/01/2018 22:24

I have a horrible habit of wiping my hands on my dressing gown when applying my make-up, so it needs to be washed quite often!

scaryteacher · 05/01/2018 22:25

I wash ds;s when he brings it home from uni, and it stands up by itself. Haven't managed to wash it this holiday as it has been attached to him most of the time.

blueskyinmarch · 05/01/2018 22:25

When you realise there is egg yolk on the sleeve.

MsVestibule · 05/01/2018 22:25

lost you should be ashamed! How often do you wear yours? Do you have a DP who secretly washes it when the smell becomes unbearable?

stoneagemum · 05/01/2018 22:27

When you can't bear the smell when wearing it

mygrandchildrenrock · 05/01/2018 22:28

etap Wink

CointreauVersial · 05/01/2018 22:29

I only wear mine briefly post-shower while doing my make-up, so it lasts weeks between washes.

AlpacaLypse · 05/01/2018 22:29

Waitrose Bio washing liquid, no softener, about 60 minutes in the tumble afterwards, and it'll be just as soft as before. True Fact. Because I did it earlier this afternoon/evening and am now snuggled into it. Lush!
