DP startled me.

Ok - he didn't do it on purpose, but it made me cry out, and then he got cross with me.
Back to school today - DS and I downstairs, Dp comes into the living room, chats, and disappears into the kitchen (or so I think).
DS and I go back upstairs to finish getting ready, and I walk into our bedroom which is pitch black (very efficient blackout blinds) so I fumble my way to the window to open them. Suddenly there's a male voice, and I yelped. DP had gone back to bed, and I thought he was in the kitchen. I then got "Oh for fuck's sake!" because he was cross with me. DS also said "You didn't need to scream"
It was involuntary - I didn't decide to scream.
Now I'm wondering if I'm like that Catherine Tate character. AIBU?

Right...

With all due respect OP, you’ve taken the time to write a thread about this...

araiwa · 04/01/2018 08:12

Edge of my seat here

What else happened?

imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 08:13

Good lord.

DragonMamma · 04/01/2018 08:14

What a non-event to write about.

I thought you were going to say he startled you and you whacked him in the face, or something equally as thread worthy...

grobagsforever · 04/01/2018 08:14

I think I might eat some bread today....

HariboForBreakfast · 04/01/2018 08:14

Log it with 101.

Redglitter · 04/01/2018 08:14
Hmm

Talk about a non event good grief

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 04/01/2018 08:15

I just spilt a bit of my tea. Then my nose was itchy. I'm off to put some toast on.

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 04/01/2018 08:18

I just realised I need to buy toilet roll and butter. No doubt there's other stuff I need. I might make a list.

OhForCodsHake · 04/01/2018 08:19

Go NC.

MollyHuaCha · 04/01/2018 08:20

Ltb?

Sweetpea55 · 04/01/2018 08:20

I'm waiting for the train into town. It's on time

RunningOutOfCharge · 04/01/2018 08:22

You sound like hard work!!!

What did you expect us all to say?

namechange2222 · 04/01/2018 08:23

I woke up. The dog wanted her breakfast. It was still dark. I fumbled to find my mobile as it was still dark. Wwyd

DeStijl · 04/01/2018 08:24

Grin this place is weird.

purpleflower23 · 04/01/2018 08:27

Why are you so on edge OP? Is there a history of DV? Do you have anxiety? I'd be concerned why this is so startling for you.

WunWun · 04/01/2018 08:27

I do think that's a weird reaction to you being startled. I don't understand why it pissed him off at all.

I'm an awful 'jumper'. I let out a little squawk the other day when someone knocked at our front door when I wasn't expecting it. My husband finds it amusing.

WunWun · 04/01/2018 08:29

Just seen the post before mine - I do suffer with anxiety which I've had therapy for and I take medication for. I suspect there is a link.

BitOutOfPractice · 04/01/2018 08:30

How cross?

BastardGoDarkly · 04/01/2018 08:31
fuzzywuzzy · 04/01/2018 08:31

I’d have reacted exactly as you did OP.

It’s not weird or odd to react as you did when startled.

Your DS is copying Your DP, by belittling your reflexive response to the situation.

Is your relationship with your dp otherwise ok or is he usually dismissive?

My DP would have apologised if he’d startled me, & we’d have forgotten about it immediately.

AyeAyeFishyPie · 04/01/2018 08:32

Slow news day...

WunWun · 04/01/2018 08:32

To be clear, I am saying her DH's reaction was weird.

MiddleClassProblem · 04/01/2018 08:32

I have anxiety and went to the loo in the night. I came back to bed and was “startled” as I hadn’t realised the dog had got up and taken my spot. I did not feel the need to write a thread about it. Nor every time I stub my toe and unnecessarily shout and say obscenities.

WunWun · 04/01/2018 08:33

Yes, but her thread is about her husband's reaction, not being startled.
