DP startled me.

Ok - he didn't do it on purpose, but it made me cry out, and then he got cross with me.
Back to school today - DS and I downstairs, Dp comes into the living room, chats, and disappears into the kitchen (or so I think).
DS and I go back upstairs to finish getting ready, and I walk into our bedroom which is pitch black (very efficient blackout blinds) so I fumble my way to the window to open them. Suddenly there's a male voice, and I yelped. DP had gone back to bed, and I thought he was in the kitchen. I then got "Oh for fuck's sake!" because he was cross with me. DS also said "You didn't need to scream"
It was involuntary - I didn't decide to scream.
Now I'm wondering if I'm like that Catherine Tate character. AIBU?

My god what a coven of witches in here today! OP you are not unreasonable. Why didn’t he tell you he was going back to bed? And any other couple would have had a laugh about it.

Leanin15yearsmaybe · 05/01/2018 17:57

See now I was expecting it to read ‘my dp startled me and..........I wee’d a bit’

Or maybe that’s just my reaction to jumping. And sneezing. And laughing...

avamiah · 05/01/2018 17:57

Are you bored?
Or have too much time on your hands?

dutysuite · 05/01/2018 18:02

I think this would be better off as your status on Facebook. Grin

luckylavender · 05/01/2018 18:04

LTB

Katyb1310 · 05/01/2018 18:05

I'd have done the same OP. I get a fright if DH or DC come in behind me when I'm drying my hair and I would definitely have got a fright under those circumstances. It's a natural reaction to yelp. Your DH wbu

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 05/01/2018 18:08

My elderly cat is asleep on my lap and I want a wee. I’ll stay here until I get desperate.

pollymere · 05/01/2018 18:10

I feel you've written on Mumsnet because you feel unfairly treated by DP and DS. I don't think it's that unusual to help or scream at anything unexpected, especially if you're mind is elsewhere. It's bad that your DS is copying your DP as his behaviour was a little unfair. You probably need to get it off your chest to DP that you weren't overreacting, and you're a little upset that he thinks that (and talk to DP about DS copying bad behaviour).

mumof3boys33 · 05/01/2018 18:23

I can’t believe some of the replies 😂😂 I think it was a lighthearted post. Glad OP didn’t take them too seriously.
I am terrible at jumping at things. My kids find it hilarious. My loudest scream was when I was home alone, busy cleaning, I went upstairs and a bird came flying out from behind a cupboard on the landing, right in front of me and almost hit my face. I think the poor house Martin was more scared than me. But I did scream, loudly 😂😂
I think you DP overreacted though. But maybe you startled him too.

vickym1984 · 05/01/2018 18:26

I’m sure DP would startle anyone , especially if they weren’t expecting it .

Sorry , I’ll get my coat lol

NotTheFordType · 05/01/2018 18:43

Is your DP generally a grumpy fucker when he's sleepy?

The times you talk about, it seems like he's been coming to bed, or you've woken him up thrashing about in nightmares.

I've known people before who are absolutely lovely when they're fully awake, but are grouchy twats when they first wake up or they are tired and want bed.

My son went through a phase where he was having night terrors at least once a week and waking me up with his screams. Not once did I say to him "FFS FordJr" but I am not a tiredness groucher.

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 05/01/2018 19:04

My phone rang, but I asked DH to get it and he didn't want to so I did

Teacher21 · 05/01/2018 19:28

Was tempted to make a comma t about Oscar Pistorious and being startled....thought better of it though!

Crashbangwhallop · 05/01/2018 19:47

DP gets scared really easily and he developed a punch as a reflex action to an old flatmate constantly jumping out at home. He didn’t tell me this at first and of course my favourite thing to do at that time was to jump out at everyone. Nobody could hear or see me coming but I could always guess when they did. The first time I did it to DP was also my last time. Full on punch to the face from an extremely large man. Left me with a black eye and I found it hilarious. DP actually cried when it happened thinking he’d really hurt me.
A scream isn’t so dramatic now is it...

Anyone else click on this thread (and regret it) because they thought it was a sexual reference to first time dual-penetration? No........good, me neither, I was just checking!😂

bubblesdrew · 05/01/2018 20:10

My mother shrieks at everything and it takes everything I have not to go crazy at her for it. It's so annoying.

Everyone give OP a break. We can all create threads on what we want!

Geordie1944 · 05/01/2018 20:12

If you haven't got better things to do than write this crap then it is past time you got a life.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 05/01/2018 20:19

Hey Geordie.. I doubt the OP gives a shit what you think with your sad little attempt at a put down.

gingergenius · 05/01/2018 20:29

A definite LTB OP!!!

lolamaiM · 05/01/2018 20:54

Fuck! All your "whatevers", made me open this, curse you 😋

Ramirez · 05/01/2018 20:56

I would've jumped and shrieked too, which would make DH jump and he'd say something back usually "fgs I do live here too!" But it's all normal I think.

MelloDee · 05/01/2018 20:58

Are lighthearted threads banned for 2018 on Mumsnet? Must we only post serious / dramatic / edge-of-your-seat stuff, or do we all have to mark a lighthearted thread as LIGHTHEARTED so the humourless can avoid it or hold off on the bitchiness?

Jeez Louise, some of you on here today...

Anyway OP, I can sympathise. Im a jumpy person. I suffer with anxiety though. Im the annoying passenger in other peoples cars who's always hitting the imaginary brakes, or telling the driver to slow down. Anyone/anything/loud noises appearing suddenly and I'll jump 3 feet in the air accompanied with a wail.

My DH finds my nervousness hilarious and creeping in when he gets home from work to jump out on me is more or less a hobby of his!

Jeez one person pounces and loads of sheep follow suit. Do you not have your own minds? One person saying it is enough. Does it really need hundreds of others jumping on the bandwagon repeating the exact same crap? Bunch of bitches on this thread. It's a lighthearted thread. Lighten up you miserable lot.
