DP startled me.

Ok - he didn't do it on purpose, but it made me cry out, and then he got cross with me.
Back to school today - DS and I downstairs, Dp comes into the living room, chats, and disappears into the kitchen (or so I think).
DS and I go back upstairs to finish getting ready, and I walk into our bedroom which is pitch black (very efficient blackout blinds) so I fumble my way to the window to open them. Suddenly there's a male voice, and I yelped. DP had gone back to bed, and I thought he was in the kitchen. I then got "Oh for fuck's sake!" because he was cross with me. DS also said "You didn't need to scream"
It was involuntary - I didn't decide to scream.
Now I'm wondering if I'm like that Catherine Tate character. AIBU?

The phrase creeping Jesus has always amused me Grin

To be fair to the OP - i'm a jumpy person, and DH is a noisy bugger so i know where he is all the time usually, but he walked into the kitchen quietly once while i was at the sink and (unintentionally) made me jump. I put my back out and was still clinging to the edge of the sink 20 mns later :)

And in other earth shattering news, I got up this morning, watched BBC breakfast, and had a cup of coffee.

GetYourRocksOff · 04/01/2018 09:09

K2p

Aren't you just so cool and sarcastic. ..

Hmm
tinkerbellone · 04/01/2018 09:09

I'm jumpy and squeak - my BF rolls his eyes and says 'you're a nervous wreck'
I'm not - I just day dream and lost in thought (hoovering or washing pots etc)and then he will come in and speak and it makes me jump.

Only1scoop · 04/01/2018 09:12

Whatever you do don't put the toaster on....

Clandestino · 04/01/2018 09:15

I couldn't find my house keys this morning. I opened the door with them, put stuff into the car and then they were gone.
I found them in the bag with toys for my DD's time at her CM.
Nobody was cross with me.

youokayhun · 04/01/2018 09:21

Wow, rude bunch on here today! I think it's perfectly reasonable for you to ask if it's out of order for you DP to have a go at you for an involuntary reaction! If it makes you feel better, I jump/get startled easily - I am by no means a delicate little flower of any sort, I don't know why it happens but it does and I often get shouted at as though I've done it on purpose and it fucks me off royally!

RunningOutOfCharge · 04/01/2018 09:23

ButchyRestingFace

You ignorantly assume so. Not everyone is English you know.... bit of a revelation for you.

To pad about is not showing much in google.....so question still stands

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 04/01/2018 09:23

Why so mean people? I mean I've seen a lot worse of a thread on here!

OP you have my sympathy. I would have screamed to tbf.

Scribblegirl · 04/01/2018 09:24

Weird responses Hmm

I have anxiety OP and once had a panic attack when DP walked into a room and I hadn't realised. He didn't shout at me though, he just apologised after helping me calm down probably thought I was a massive weirdo but never mind

It does seem odd to get cross with someone for an involuntary thing, suggests he thinks you're putting it on for effect which isn't very nice.

Booie09 · 04/01/2018 09:27

OP do you scream when the phone rings? Someone knocks at the door? When the toilet flushes? When someone opens a crisp packet? Is so yes yes you are like the Catherine tate character.

ButchyRestingFace · 04/01/2018 09:29

I’m not English either.

Bit of a revelation for you. Hmm

squirrelonapetridish · 04/01/2018 09:29

Very odd responses to this op, must be because it's January and everyone is feeling tired and grumpy . I spook easily too, am also a very anxious person so I guess it's because of that. Feel very on the edge a lot of the time!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 04/01/2018 09:29

Oh come on. Walking into a pitch black room that you think nobody is in is different to the phone ringing!

ButchyRestingFace · 04/01/2018 09:29

I answered the question in my previous post. Try reading it.

Nanna50 · 04/01/2018 09:30

Why did you not put the light on instead of fumbling in the dark if you thought OH was in the kitchen then you could have startled him, he could have screamed and you could have said for fucks sake?

ButchyRestingFace · 04/01/2018 09:31

The phrase creeping Jesus has always amused me grin

It’s a goodie. I like it. Grin

imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 09:32

If someone constantly screamed at minor things I'd get bloody irritated too.

C0untDucku1a · 04/01/2018 09:33

Poor op could still be in the darkened room for all we know.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 04/01/2018 09:34

Amazed at the amount of posters who have never been startled. Hmm

AutumnalTed · 04/01/2018 09:35

You sure it was your husband and not EKL?

ButchyRestingFace · 04/01/2018 09:35

She didn’t indicate she was a serial screamer though, AFAIR.

I suspect the fact her DP was in his kip (sleeping?) probably had a lot to do with his reaction.

zwellers · 04/01/2018 09:35

Come in people all the dp said was for fuck sake when op screamed probably because that took him by surprise.ie op he reacted is that way because you screaming surprised him. I would have created the same tbh. Complete none event but as always people see emotional abuse everywhere.

C0untDucku1a · 04/01/2018 09:36

My line manager startled me at work once. I was sat at the pc worh headphones on liatening to a ahort cideo. She came up bejind me, but a handmon my shoulder to get my attention and i yelped, she jumped at my yelp and then we both laughed.

Op’s dp’s reaction sounds mean.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 04/01/2018 09:37

Perhaps your screaming made DH jump and his FFS was a reaction to your scream?
This could go on forever...
