To think this family are twat travellers

Crowded airport.

All restaurants rammed.

I see there's one brasserie style place, also busy, 5 seats at the bar and 2 tables left.

I queue to get food and plan on sitting at the bar. Just as I'm collecting my change two girls appear, running to the bar seats and laughing. Then their mum and dad appear and say "well done Sophie!"

AIBU to think if you're a family you leave the bar seats to solo travellers? The whole point is sitting at the bar is less conspicuous. And also if you take up a table as a solo traveller you often get asked if you mind sharing when a group/family arrives, understandably.

Just think its quite selfish!

Yabu

SpartonDregs · 22/12/2017 18:53

Sorry, you can have the fifth seat surely?

GreyMorning · 22/12/2017 18:54

Did you put your towel on it first..?

hereitis · 22/12/2017 18:54

I agree re not using a large table but why on earth do you want to be inconspicuous?!

Mumof56 · 22/12/2017 18:54

YABU

Solo travellers don't have any more rights to the bar seats than anyone else.

DingDongDenny · 22/12/2017 18:54

Wow it must be exhausting being you

PurpleDaisies · 22/12/2017 18:55
Hmm

Who made you the seat police?

Hermagsjesty · 22/12/2017 18:55

I don’t understand - were they a family of four? Surely that still left a seat for you?

YABU - there is no rule, spoken or unspoken, about leaving bar seats for solo travellers.

WishingOnABar · 22/12/2017 18:55

Did you put your towel on it first..?

😂😂😂😂

twiney · 22/12/2017 18:56

I definitely think there's an unspoken rule actually!

I'm in the fifth seat and planning something passive aggressive.

My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

I'm in the fifth seat and planning something passive aggressive

Or you could lighten up a bit instead?

honeyroar · 22/12/2017 18:57

God I hope you're not on my plane!

Amanduh · 22/12/2017 18:58

You're unhinged

Battleax · 22/12/2017 18:59
Hmm
SouthWestmom · 22/12/2017 18:59

It's the usual food or table first cafe question with a twist. FWIW op, I hate travelling solo because you can't bag a seat but everyone else does. Next time stick your coat on it.

shrunkenhead · 22/12/2017 19:00

Xmas Biscuit my first ever!

AnathemaPulsifer · 22/12/2017 19:00

So you got your seat? Hmm

Battleax · 22/12/2017 19:01

I'm in the fifth seat and planning something passive aggressive.

This will go soooo well. Do please update Grin

Comekittykitty · 22/12/2017 19:01

Laughing at the parents sending the kids running to reserve a seat and actually gleefully shouting 🤣 Fine to get kids to sit down but I wouldn’t make a song and dance about it. I actually agree with OP about the bar seats usually being for single travellers or people in a rush. No rule but certainly makes more sense than sitting as a family like pigeons on a line. Safe travels OP.

falange · 22/12/2017 19:01

Is this a joke? If not, you're a nutter.

Bombardier25966 · 22/12/2017 19:02

Single traveller here, and I hate sitting at the bar. I'll take the smallest table available, no one has ever objected.

Whynotnowbaby · 22/12/2017 19:02

This is not a rule I’ve ever heard of- why is a family any less entitled to choose their own seats than an individual?

WishingOnABar · 22/12/2017 19:03

So there was still a seat free for you, which you are currently using? 🙄
