To think this family are twat travellers

Crowded airport.

All restaurants rammed.

I see there's one brasserie style place, also busy, 5 seats at the bar and 2 tables left.

I queue to get food and plan on sitting at the bar. Just as I'm collecting my change two girls appear, running to the bar seats and laughing. Then their mum and dad appear and say "well done Sophie!"

AIBU to think if you're a family you leave the bar seats to solo travellers? The whole point is sitting at the bar is less conspicuous. And also if you take up a table as a solo traveller you often get asked if you mind sharing when a group/family arrives, understandably.

Just think its quite selfish!

OP posts:

liara I tend to sit at the bar when travelling solo. And I usually talk to people (I like being social)... So yes, I think you might be on to something.

PumpkinSquash · 22/12/2017 20:56

So you’re sitting in a seat and pissed off because... you only had one seat to choose from instead of five? Or am i missing something?

She wanted ALLL the seats. She "owns" seats. It's Janet.

YANBU.

Parents sound like entitled cunts.

You should gave taken a seat in the middle of the 5, OP. Grin

glitterlips1 · 22/12/2017 20:58

It is a dog eat dog world out there. You got to be quick to get the seat you want!

Fruitcocktail6 · 22/12/2017 20:59

I think peoplr who comment on a thread to slag off a poster personally are the lamest sort of MNer

Yet you refer to children as twats, cunts and whatever else. You sound genuinely mental and I would not want to sit near you at the bar.

pret · 22/12/2017 21:02

Bad day OP?

PoorYorick · 22/12/2017 21:03

Well im glad to see that the selfish twat parent contingent has been encouraging their little troglodytes to use bar seating. Glad i could give some insight that may make you think twice next time.

You're either an utter fruitcake or the best troll since that Paula person.

Sounds like the OP had already spent more than enough time at the bar by the tone of her posts.
Spoilt drunk and entitled I reckon.
Very bizarre

questionsandquestions · 22/12/2017 21:16

I have heard of the solo at the bar stools thing and I agree with you OP, it was selfish of the family to plonk themselves there in a row, meaning you now have to sit on the end of their row, or look selfish yourself by being a single at a table of four (which yes, you'd probably get some disapproving looks over, looks you would not get at the bar). I think it's weird that other people think it's normal for families of four to sit in a row at the bar, when tables are available and solos are in the line. I travel a lot for business so maybe this affects your perception or understanding of rules. Also, I don't think you sound like a complete fruitcake (a slice maybe, understandable if you're flying Ryanair). Have a good Xmas love.

paperandpaint · 22/12/2017 21:18

I'd love to be sitting at the bar of a brasserie but instead I'm cleaning out the fridge and summoning up the courage to deal with the washing mountain. I appreciate that this spectacularly misses the point but oh to be going somewhere, anywhere even if it was for work. The only place I go to with my job is to the playground for break duty......

I have no other useful input on this one.

ShellyBoobs · 22/12/2017 21:20

I think this is it.

I also travel constantly on business and I think it’s a real eye-opener.

Some people are soooo entitled and cheeky. There’s no thought for anyone but themselves and their PFBs. Clearly many of them have arrived on this thread, too.

Bouledeneige · 22/12/2017 21:21

I'm a sole traveller and have never heard of this rule. You just made it up!

I just sit where I want to - but never on bar stools if I can help it. No one has ever asked me to leave a table but sometimes they or I ask to share. Which is fine.

I have no idea why you hate families and kids so much. Why cant they sit there if they want to? Pretty nasty language.....

AnyFucker · 22/12/2017 21:25

Building up quite the posting history, aintcha ?

I just can't understand how this is a problem. How is it different from another 4 solo travellers coming and sitting next to the op?

MyfanwyMontez · 22/12/2017 21:28

Jesus , I cannot believe the things people get worked up about. They are just as entitled to sit where they wish as you OP. You should have said something if you were that pissed off about it.

All four aren't twats. Sophie's sister, Rachel, is lovely. Other three really are knobheads though.

Witchend · 22/12/2017 21:36

I hate bar stools. The dc love them. I'd be delighted if a family took them and left me a table. I can always stare earnestly at my phone and look at mn if I don't want to talk to anyone joining me.

ButchyRestingFace · 22/12/2017 21:43

I hate bar seats.

I’d be thrilled if a considerate family used them all up and left me with a tabie. 👍

HarrietVane99 · 22/12/2017 21:43

Perhaps the family thought they were being considerate in leaving the tables for people who find barstools difficult or impossible, because they're short or have mobility problems. Single traveller or not, I'd never take a barstool if a table was available.

MrsFezziwig · 22/12/2017 21:44

Please tell me you’re not in charge of flying the plane.Shock
