To think this family are twat travellers

Crowded airport.

All restaurants rammed.

I see there's one brasserie style place, also busy, 5 seats at the bar and 2 tables left.

I queue to get food and plan on sitting at the bar. Just as I'm collecting my change two girls appear, running to the bar seats and laughing. Then their mum and dad appear and say "well done Sophie!"

AIBU to think if you're a family you leave the bar seats to solo travellers? The whole point is sitting at the bar is less conspicuous. And also if you take up a table as a solo traveller you often get asked if you mind sharing when a group/family arrives, understandably.

Just think its quite selfish!

Hang on.

There were 5 seats available.

A family of 4 came and sat on 4 of the seats.

That left one seat for you, which you are now sitting in.

What's the problem??

Fauchelevent · 22/12/2017 19:04

So you’re sitting in a seat and pissed off because... you only had one seat to choose from instead of five? Or am i missing something?

Scoose · 22/12/2017 19:05

Get a life!

verystressedmum · 22/12/2017 19:07

Bar seats are for solo travellers? Don’t be ridiculous empty seats are for whoever wants to sit in them

MaidOfStars · 22/12/2017 19:07

I can’t boggle enough at this thread.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 22/12/2017 19:08

Oh, it's you Twiney.

Do you ever, you know, have a normal sort of day where you just get on with stuff or does every part of your life need a bishbosh Mr. Angry thread?

twiney · 22/12/2017 19:08

@Comekittykitty

Ta Comekitty!

Its lame to congratulate your kids on basically dicking over people who have been queueing but dont have travel buddies to bags for them. Sure go for it, it makes sense, but its dickish to gloat about it.

And yeah sorry, but it's also cuntish to take up 4 bar seats and leave a table free for a single person to get bullied off.

Bar seats are for people rushing, not for four epic twats to sit there like jiggling Easter Island statues.

Lucky i make threads you want to read eh, else you'd be sat at home....I dunno...downloading old episodes of Countdown?

Never heard of bar seats being saved for single travellers. I'd rather not sit like a bird on a branch when eating or drinking. Still each to their own. YABU.

MaidOfStars · 22/12/2017 19:10

But the table hasn’t been left free for a single person. You don’t know who’s going to sit there?

PoorYorick · 22/12/2017 19:11

You're on your own, OP.

There's no rule, written or otherwise, against taking a seat in a cafe. If you think that's "cuntish ", may l suggest you never leave the house.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 22/12/2017 19:11

You're a bit hard to miss love at the moment. Like Christmas, but the fag end brussel bit.

twiney · 22/12/2017 19:12

@MaidOfStars

So now that this family 4 have plopped themselves down at the bar, where do you think the 4 next solo travellers are going to have to sit?

They'll either have to sit opposite each other awkwardly at a table or go and find a bench somewhere

Maybe if you told us about your history of being bullied from tables this would all make more sense?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 22/12/2017 19:13

Next time just take a table for four and say no if anyone asks to sit there.

crispbuttie · 22/12/2017 19:13

How old are the kids?
Apparently if a stranger strokes a young child's cheek it freaks parents out on MN - might be worth a try.

PoorYorick · 22/12/2017 19:14

Nobody has to choose their seats based on speculation about who the next four customers are going to be.

I cannot believe I had to say that.

Battleax · 22/12/2017 19:14

So now that this family 4 have plopped themselves down at the bar, where do you think the 4 next solo travellers are going to have to sit?

How are the next four solo travellers your problem though?

Is there something else you're angry about? Sex? Work? Family? Christmas? Because this all sounds a bit displaced.

twiney · 22/12/2017 19:15

@PerfumeIsAMessage
Whatever! Not specific to my thread, but generally I think peoplr who comment on a thread to slag off a poster personally are the lamest sort of MNer. You're actually that bored and sad in your own life that you comment on peoples threads with something like "oh you again".

Fuck me man! I'd rather make 100 threads a day that nobody cares about than be that sad and frustrated and bitter. You're like the dogs fart after the brussel sprouts! Xmas Grin

I find a lot of unspoken rules exist on MN only.

MaisyPops · 22/12/2017 19:15

I thought there was an unwritten rule that tables of 4 are for groups and tall stools in bar areas/smaller tables are for 1s and 2s.

It wouldn't piss me off but I would think it was odd to sit a family in a long line instead of at an actual table if the table was an option because bar seats aren't particularly conducive to group conversation.

twiney · 22/12/2017 19:15

@crispbuttie

@Battleax

I'm pissed off about all 4 of those things

OP posts:
Rossigigi · 22/12/2017 19:18

I was a solo for years, if there weren't any seats left, I would think nothing of finding a decent looking table and asking if they would mind if I sat there. I was never refused and had many a good conversations with my new dining partners. But that's me- I'll talk to anyone!
