To think this family are twat travellers

Crowded airport.

All restaurants rammed.

I see there's one brasserie style place, also busy, 5 seats at the bar and 2 tables left.

I queue to get food and plan on sitting at the bar. Just as I'm collecting my change two girls appear, running to the bar seats and laughing. Then their mum and dad appear and say "well done Sophie!"

AIBU to think if you're a family you leave the bar seats to solo travellers? The whole point is sitting at the bar is less conspicuous. And also if you take up a table as a solo traveller you often get asked if you mind sharing when a group/family arrives, understandably.

Just think its quite selfish!

I agree with you Op.
There is no rule and I think a lot of MNetters haven't travelled solo for a while. Easy to forget how annoying these minor issues from another perspective.
However you do have to positively reinforce children a lot so saying " well done" is less likely to be twat and acknowledgment that the kids did what they asked ie found a seat for everyone.

This sort of thing is illegal in Denmark. It's just not allowed. High stools in bats/restaurants/cafes are for individuals, no groups of 2 or more. I think the fine is something like 100DK.

Seriously?

Xmas Shock

Hope Ryanair exceeded your expectations OP.

Daddystepdaddy · 22/12/2017 21:59

I think you've got to chill out. I've travelled a lot on business alone and people on their holidays are usually completely ignorant of others in airports. You just need to let it wash over you.

starzig · 22/12/2017 22:02

Oh dear. Feel soooo sorry for you having to sit next to non-solo travellers. Did they make you sit next to people travelling together on the plane too? Or did you get the special solo traveller section.

ButchyRestingFace · 22/12/2017 22:03

Hope Ryanair exceeded your expectations OP.

Unless they opened the cabin doors and “deplaned” her at 35,000 ft, Ryan Air could hardly fall below one’s expectations, could they?

Sparklesocks · 22/12/2017 22:04

Life’s too short!

starzig · 22/12/2017 22:04

Serious question about the Denmark thing. If you sit down as a couple and strike up a conversation with the couple next to you do the police swoop in?

ShimmeringBollox · 22/12/2017 22:06

No, but the bar staff log it with the police just incase.

Charolais · 22/12/2017 22:07

The family had their heads up their arses. They should have seated themselves at a table. Unscrew the lid off the salt next time.

I hope there are advisory BOLD LETTER signs up everywhere.

Otherwise Johhny Foreigner would be getting his collar felt at every turn.

TheImportanceofBeingEarnest · 22/12/2017 22:08

Butching yes it is, it's not just Denmark, lots of other, mostly European, countries enforce a single seat for single people rule. It's to do with parity between single people/couples/families. I think also it's to encourage individuals to interact rather than stare at technology. A lot of places also ban phones/tablets etc. I went into one cafe like this and they have a 'Discussion if the Day' written on the wall to encourage conversation/argument - interaction. A bit like a real life, microcosm Mumsnet.

Via the Danish 999, one hopes.

ShimmeringBollox · 22/12/2017 22:11

Grin most likely.

TheImportanceofBeingEarnest · 22/12/2017 22:12

Stargiz no because that's what they want to happen. Human interaction. Although, if that new gang of 4 went off somewhere else they'd have to sit at a table not on seats designated for individuals.

TheImportanceofBeingEarnest · 22/12/2017 22:14

Butching it's 112 in Denmark - just in case you needed to know.

You're more conspicuous sat at the bar aren't you? That's where everyone is ordering their drinks.

OP is 'one of them though' so I wasn't really supposed to put any thought into it Grin

ButchyRestingFace · 22/12/2017 22:17

It’s Butchy, Earnest.

Although I must admit I like the idea of butch as a verb. Xmas Grin

I butch
You butch
He butches
We butch
They butch

And thank you for the number. 🙏

ShimmeringBollox · 22/12/2017 22:18

Thanks Earnest, I will pop it in to my phone just incase I spot anyone committing the heinous crime in my presence.
Do I have to be in Denmark for the police to sweep in and the fine to be issued?
I am popping down to my local tomorrow night, there is bound to be loads of bar stool Wankers down there.

MaisyPops · 22/12/2017 22:20

Well im glad to see that the selfish twat parent contingent has been encouraging their little troglodytes to use bar seating
Hmm
Now you sound like some kind of goady wind up merchant.

I started the thread thinking 'yeah I'd have probably thought big tables fir groups, small tables and bar stools for solo or couple travellers but hardly worth being pissed off about'. Now I think you've lost the plot a bit or have furry hands and live under a bridge.

MerryMarigold · 22/12/2017 22:24

I don't know. I think all it may take for the OP is for one of the cabin staff to be 'too camp' or 'look at her a bit funny'.

TheImportanceofBeingEarnest · 22/12/2017 22:24

Butchy shit I'm sorry! I do it in real life too if that helps - I introduced someone to someone else as Pam the other day. Her name was Sarah, it's not even in the same hemisphere.

Butching is a great verb, it beats the one I heard the other day that I can't remember! But it was akin to 'I'm Amazoning' but not that.

ButchyRestingFace · 22/12/2017 22:26

Whiney Twiney does have a certain je ne sais quois to it.

Personally, I think OP should own it and NC. I would. 👍
