To think this family are twat travellers

Crowded airport.

All restaurants rammed.

I see there's one brasserie style place, also busy, 5 seats at the bar and 2 tables left.

I queue to get food and plan on sitting at the bar. Just as I'm collecting my change two girls appear, running to the bar seats and laughing. Then their mum and dad appear and say "well done Sophie!"

AIBU to think if you're a family you leave the bar seats to solo travellers? The whole point is sitting at the bar is less conspicuous. And also if you take up a table as a solo traveller you often get asked if you mind sharing when a group/family arrives, understandably.

Just think its quite selfish!

generally I think peoplr who comment on a thread to slag off a poster personally are the lamest sort of MNer.

Yeah but you also think people who sit at the bar in cafes are cunts, so who gives a flying table seat what you think?

gottachangethename1 · 22/12/2017 19:19

Try to make the best of things op. You’re at the airport, so assume your jetting off on a relaxing break or visiting family, or going on a paid business trip. Anyone of these options is better than sitting eating beans on toast in cold, rainy UK

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 22/12/2017 19:20

Merry Christmas Xmas Smile.
Just think what Jesus would do.

Battleax · 22/12/2017 19:21

You're pissed off about sex, work, family AND Christmas?!

Can't you resign and do a runner now while you're at the airport anyway? Buy a ticket to Cancun and disappear for a month?

coalit · 22/12/2017 19:21

I sort of see your point OP, thinking ahead is a vanishing art.

SemolinaSilkpaws · 22/12/2017 19:22

Airports at Christmas are gobshite, airport restaurants are double gobshite. Eat and drink up OP, hope you are flying somewhere lovely for Christmas.

They are probably all sitting in a row as they have so little conversation or can’t bear to look at each other!

MissEliza · 22/12/2017 19:24

My dd loves the bar stool seats but I always say no if there's a table available as I see them as being for people sitting alone. I think they're being a bit inconsiderate.

PrimalLass · 22/12/2017 19:24

*I definitely think there's an unspoken rule actually

So unspoken no one knows it.

Thiswayorthatway · 22/12/2017 19:24

There's only one twat traveller here

Ruffian · 22/12/2017 19:26

You're being a bit weird OP.

mathanxiety · 22/12/2017 19:26

You could avoid all of these problems if you carried with you your own fold out table and chair, and your own inflatable bubble to put them in.

Actually, a bigger version of a hamster ball might do the trick.

thegoodnameshadgone · 22/12/2017 19:27

Just sit next to them and maybe make conversation. It’s no drama. You’ll never win at these games if no one else knows the rules lol. Safe flight anyway 🎄🎄🎄

Sweetpea55 · 22/12/2017 19:28

I was unaware of the twatty rule regarding seats and tables.
I would just sit where I wanted to. And if you don't like it that's tuff titty

Feckitall · 22/12/2017 19:30

It wouldn't piss me off but I would think it was odd to sit a family in a long line instead of at an actual table if the table was an option because bar seats aren't particularly conducive to group conversation

That may have been the parents plan!
Xmas Wink

Fibbertigibbet · 22/12/2017 19:31

OP if so many people (including me) have never heard of, nay even fathomed, this "unspoken rule", then surely it's not an unspoken rule? Surely this is just in your head?

Loonoonow · 22/12/2017 19:33

YABU. Have a drink and let it go.

Mrsmadevans · 22/12/2017 19:33

Xmas Grin chill out op, you will turn the milk sour love!

mathanxiety · 22/12/2017 19:34

Or maybe an inflatable travel buddy? That way there would be no awkwardness at all if you ended up at a table. You might even get a table just for the two of you...

Voice0fReason · 22/12/2017 19:35

It's an unspoken rule because noone has ever said it!
You're nuts.

eurochick · 22/12/2017 19:38

I think you're going after the wrong issue. You can have a debate about bagsying tables without food. But blathering on about some imaginary rule only you've heard of is not going to get people onside.

I'd have chosen one of the tables, even if I'd been a solo traveller, because I hate being perched on bar stools.

You can't assume what other people will want to choose OP.

honeyroar · 22/12/2017 19:41

Most kids love sitting on those high bar seats, that's probably what their excitement was about, not pissing you off! And most solo travellers realise that they will most likely have to sit with strangers at some point, especially on one of the busiest , if not the busiest travel weeks of the year!

MonumentalAlabaster · 22/12/2017 19:44

The whole point is sitting at the bar is less conspicuous

I really don't get this at all

DeepanKrispanEven · 22/12/2017 19:47

And yeah sorry, but it's also cuntish to take up 4 bar seats and leave a table free for a single person to get bullied off.

Why are they leaving the table free only for single people? Suppose the next customers are two families of four who will be absolutely delighted to find two tables free?
