She has sold it, he has ‘bought’ it and then two of them have the profits. Former ram castrator FIL, meanwhile, is completely oblivious. He’s never heard about it.

Bear in mind that DH of CF is perfectly willing to defraud others re:fake proposals for gain etc. He is not an angel by any stretch. He’s now ‘in on it’ but trying to keep the peace.

And CF will get her handbag.

I don’t get this.
Originally you were happy to give it to FIL, for free, via CF.
Now they have given you $400 for it.
That doesn’t make sense. I’d keep a watch on eBay auctions.

I think that's a fab ending. You very generously had wanted nothing for it but are 400 up, FIL got the gift he deserved, and CF not only didn't get a free Christmas present for FIL or make any money she is 400 down. Perfect y ending!

Unlikely, but as you have got cash when you didn't expect it then the only thing you have lost is a CF friend... so win/win it is!! 😁

Hmm. Sceptical. Not about the thread starter or veracity of the tale told, but that FIL has received the item. My guess is CF flogged it and pocketed any excess or has put it away til some time has passed and she can try to sell it again.

The DH of CF sounds like a good egg and far too good for the CF. He needs to stop with the fake proposals though and should use this situation as the start of him standing up to her from now on.

Ask for a photo of the fil with the item and holding a newspaper of the day

I just wanted to say thanks for sharing and the updates, first thread I've ever followed. So entertaining that I wouldn't be surprised it it wasn't turned into a movie. If so, any ideas who plays you and who should pay the bad, bad, friend?

And in terms of my friendship with CF, I agree that horse has bolted. I'll be pleasant towards her because we work in the same field but that's it
