CF Friend & the antique ram castrator Part 2

New thread, will update when I hear from DH of CF

OP posts:
ChevalierTialys · 09/12/2017 22:10

If i were you I'd be keeping an eye out for these items on ebay. I wouldnt like CFDH just deciding on his own solution without asking if you were ok with it.

Justkeepleft · 09/12/2017 23:07

I reckon CFDH paid for the item so it clearly belonged to him and was his present then to His father. Since transactions involving money are what his wife understands, it seems logical. She would never accept the thoughtful angle.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend OP.

sashadjas · 10/12/2017 00:33

Starting about 35 mins ago, totally skimmed through this and first thread (read every green box in full though!), three distinct thoughts:

  1. Fucking CRYINGGGG at second thread's title, having already started with the outloud mental piggy-snorts and chortling at the first hint of Antique Ram Castrators (Sean Connery springs to mind far...) in thread 1;
  2. OP I would have gone apeshit on day 1 but that's cos I'm a gobby besom! You handled it with dignity and aplomb, your reticence actually making certain you were certain, and you didn't curdle your boobies so well done lady - I applaud you! And;
  3. Whilst I share the curiosity of many others about whether cunty-faced-ex-friend CF's FIL received the ARC or not, it's taking some effort to lower my hackles at folk telling you to make sure...not gonna rant, not my thread (not like me this...!).
Great thread, good outcome, definite nominee for CF 2-faced cowbag of 2017 and you and yr DH n boobie-limpet have a wonderful Christmas!xx
ReanimatedSGB · 10/12/2017 01:37

You're right to let it go now - you've had a reasonable amount of money for the item from CFDH, so therefore it does belong to CF/CFDH. They have now bought it from you, and whether they give it to CF FIL, sell it on, or shove it up their arses is no one else's business any more.
But it would also be entirely reasonable if you wanted to keep a good distance from CF in future. She's not a friend. She not only tried to rip you off but lied and gaslighted you.

TheClaws · 10/12/2017 02:07

Not sure anyone in Oz really has a particular hankering for Kate Spade handbags. Certainly not anyone I know, and I do run around with what you might class women with more disposable income to spend on such stuff. Aren’t they a few years ago?

Gennz18 · 10/12/2017 02:26

I would be a bit annoyed at having the money transferred to me without any discussion, esp given it was never about the money - well not for OP anyway.

I bet they never told FIL it came from you OP

if he ever got it, she mutters darkly

Thanks for sharing the story though OP, I haven't been so entertained in ages.

And for anyone reading yesterday it's pouring here today. See, comeuppance comes to GFs and CFs alike 😂

Gennz18 · 10/12/2017 02:27

A Kate Spade handbag seems like a fitting punishment for CF don't you think TheClaws 😂😂😂

pollywollydoodle · 10/12/2017 05:20

@puzzledandpissedoff ...or teeth 😄

sumofparts · 10/12/2017 07:44

Antique ram castrator for classics!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/12/2017 08:43

mirren

How did i miss that bolting horse/field bit? - I'm now giggling like a schoolgirl at it!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/12/2017 08:46

And OP - FWIW I think you've done the right thing letting this go and not hunting her down like a rabid dingo and beating her to pulp with an antique ram castrator pursuing the matter further.

Get her out of your headspace.

Let her be the one who is seething with discontent.

Take your $however-much and enjoy your Christmas (but if you ever run into FIL, say how glad you are that he enjoyed the gift . . . Grin)

Boysnme · 10/12/2017 09:02

OP great outcome and you are right to let it lie now, even if it turns out that FIL didn’t get it. I doubt you’ll ever get an apology from CF and I bet she’ll still get her handbag!

eloisesparkle · 10/12/2017 10:12

With friends like CF who needs enemies. She'd be off my Christmas List.
I despise meaness

MadMags · 10/12/2017 10:37

I think the nominations for classics are a bit ridiculous.

This was a relatively quickly resolved issue that the OP let go on for pages and pages, which is her absolute right.

But pages and pages of waiting for an update that could have been posted in the time it took to type “I have an update but I’m too busy to post it” isn’t what Classics is for, IMO.

I’d rather it be reserved for the threads that are either hilarious or really, truly ongoing sagas!

OP has her own, valid I’m sure, reasons for allowing this to go over thousands of posts, but the tale itself is short and ultimately not that dramatic/entertaining/interesting.

TheHolidayArmadillo · 10/12/2017 10:42

The OP allowed this to go over thousands of posts? As though she had any control over the people who insist on posting "following!" or whatever? She updated in her own good time, which she is under absolutely no obligation to do, and there would have still been posts asking for more details/running the number of posts beyond the seemingly acceptable level.

Whinesalot · 10/12/2017 10:55

I suspect that the op won't cross paths with fil as she saw him through the friends, which is obviously over now.
I suspect there is a profit involved and would be Angry at being told the price rather than a price being suggested. I don't think fil will ever get it.

runwalkrun · 10/12/2017 12:54

I would be a bit annoyed at having the money transferred to me without any discussion

I would be annoyed too.
They didn't ask OP what she would like to do or whether the offer was agreeable to her.
Even the end result had an arsey, trample all over OP's feeling vibe about it.

runwalkrun · 10/12/2017 12:56

or should that say 'there was a complete disregard for what OP's wishes were, in what constitutes an agreeable outcome

eloisesparkle · 10/12/2017 12:57

OP did it end satisfactorily for you (apart from seeing a 'friend's' true character) ?

milliemolliemou · 10/12/2017 13:47

This would never have happened in the UK.

Because we use elastic bands on male lambs in my neck of the woods. Not fancy Oz ram castrators. And $400 for two expired antique elastic bands would be rather a lot IMHO.

Mix56 · 10/12/2017 14:21

This could end well for her as well, as when she inherits the castrator she can sell it on eBay.......
waiting to see what her response is now ......

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/12/2017 17:03

millie

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Jux · 10/12/2017 20:05

Great update, op. The person you wanted to give it to, got it and loved it, and you got a bit of extra money for Xmas, and you got to know how low your ‘friend’ can sink thus saving yourself future heartbreak.

Ignore mieries on this thread. Some people think they’re important.

Jux · 10/12/2017 20:09

Mix, more likely her dh will inherit as it’s CF’s FIL. And with luck, the dh will be too decent to do anything other than to give it back tp op, or present it to a museum.
