CF Friend & the antique ram castrator Part 2

New thread, will update when I hear from DH of CF

OP posts:
CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 09/12/2017 11:46

To those suggesting they sold it and have kept some of the profit - I don’t think this is the case, as didn’t the OP say she sees the FIL now and then? They know they’d be caught out if he doesn’t actually have it, so I’m inclined to think the CFDH really has done the right thing. Though I do agree that $400 is slightly cheeky given that she was about to sell it for $600+!

billybagpuss · 09/12/2017 11:47

Brilliant outcome, well done.

And I didn't know what CF was either so did my usual guessing thing and came up with Cunty friend, which works equally as well IMO Smile

LunasSpectreSpecs · 09/12/2017 11:48

Well done CF's husband - he sounds like a good guy. Quite clear from the update that CF hadn't told her FIL about the item in the first place if he was so delighted to get his hands on it.

Do you think you can move on from this incident and continue the friendship OP as I'm not sure that I could.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 09/12/2017 11:50

Hopefully DPCF will have told his dad the provenance of the "ram castrator" so he will mosy probably drop the OP a thank you letter

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/12/2017 11:56

Thanks for the update. What an excellent result!!

mikeyssister · 09/12/2017 11:56

I think that's a class ending. DH of CF gives his Dad a wonderful present from him. Dad has a gift he's really excited about. And win win, you have extra cash for the baby.

$400 seems a fair price in the circumstances, and you can still be friends with CF if you want when she gets over herself.

Deedee248 · 09/12/2017 11:59

A very satisfactory ending, Silverbirch. So glad that the FIL got it in the end. Also you definitely had the moral highground in refusing to sink to CF’s level, and handling it your own way. There are always people around who want to ‘load the gun’ for you, but in the end you have to do what feels right for you.

I wish you all the best with your lovely baby.

crazycatgal · 09/12/2017 12:10

I'm glad that you got compensated and FIL got his gift.

I would seriously think about your friendship with CF though.

SilverBirchTree · 09/12/2017 12:16

Thanks for the nice messages :)

I agree the price he paid is below its value, but I didn't expect to receive anything so I'm happy.

I choose to believe that what CFDH said is true. I think it probably is.

And in terms of my friendship with CF, I agree that horse has bolted. I'll be pleasant towards her because we work in the same field but that's it.

The OP isn't necessarily being short changed in getting $400 for the item from CF DH.

If the eBay selling charges are the same as the UK that could be about $50 and UK buyers generally expect the seller to pay for postage which could be another $20 or $30 or more.

And there are a lot of CF buyers on eBay too that can make it more hassle than its worth.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 09/12/2017 12:24

Silver you sound very kind and very level headed. She has lost out on a good friend in you so this whole debacle has cost her a lot more than a handbag and I hope she has learned to treat people a bit more kindly in future. I feel the DH is telling the truth as he would know you will be chatting to the FIL at some stage no doubt:

Roussette · 09/12/2017 12:25

Wise move Silver, when someone has behaved like this, there's no getting away from it.

I think you handled this perfectly and as it was never ever about money in the first place, it's still good you're quids in Grin

Zoomaa · 09/12/2017 12:34

Glad to hear the happy ending!!

Nanny0gg · 09/12/2017 12:37

Do you believe him, OP?

And to previous posters - if you are watching a thread yes you do get a deletion message. I can't speak about the App.

And why don't people watch rather than placemark? It makes the thread really tedious to scroll through...

Twoo · 09/12/2017 12:39

The End Grin

Twoo · 09/12/2017 12:40

And they all lived happily ever after Grin

Motoko · 09/12/2017 12:40

I'm a bit disappointed that the item hasn't been donated to a museum.

I also think that DH of CF should have asked the OP if he could buy it, before giving it to FIL, rather than letting her know it was a done deal, as at that point, it was still OP's to do with as she wished, they just had the item in their possession. It makes me feel uneasy that DH of CF decided what was going to happen to the item, and that OP has acquiesced without pointing out that it wasn't his decision to make.

However, OP is happy with the outcome, which is the important thing.

I certainly wouldn't want to have anything more to do with the CF though. She's not a friend.

GirlcalledJames · 09/12/2017 12:48

If you can buy the item for a few hundred quid on ebay, any museum that wants one has already got one.
Well done, OP, you handled it well.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/12/2017 12:53

To those suggesting they sold it and have kept some of the profit - I don’t think this is the case, as didn’t the OP say she sees the FIL now and then? They know they’d be caught out if he doesn’t actually have it, so I’m inclined to think the CFDH really has done the right thing

Possibly, but what stands out for me is CF's DH's remark that she'll still want to remain friends. Considering the way she's behaved, I wouldn't have thought that likely if she's just waved goodbye to $400, her promised handbag and the item

It doesn't really matter though ... if OP chooses to believe them and is happy, that's entirely her choice to make

OliviaBenson · 09/12/2017 12:54

Excellent result OP!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/12/2017 12:58

@SilverBirchTree - thank you for updating - and I'm glad it is a good outcome for you and for CF's FIL - I hope he enjoys castrating antique rams with it!

The Kate Spade bags look lovely - have fun choosing one!

ignatiusjreilly · 09/12/2017 13:01

The FIL is unlikely to send a thank you note. CF and her DH have paid OP for it now, so it was very much a gift from them. They'll get all the 'glory'. He won't feel any gratitude towards OP, as he's very unlikely to hear that it was actually a gift from her originally.

It's a shame for the OP that her kind and generous gift has been taken over by the CFs, but she seems happy with the outcome so that's all that matters.

Thanks for updating us, OP.

TheWhyteRoseShallRiseAgain · 09/12/2017 13:10

Oh I’m irrationally happy that the FIL got it and likes it (overinvested much) has really cheered me up on a snowy day with 2 sick dds.

festivedinosaur · 09/12/2017 13:15

So pleased with outcome!

Just one question (as I read most of thread but might have missed one) ...

... was it an antique ram castrator?
